Plot Summary: On November 22, 2010 ten missiles strike Japan. However, this unprecedented terrorist act, later to be labeled as "Careless Monday," does not result in any apparent victims, and is soon forgotten by almost everyone. Then, 3 months later... Saki Morimi is a young woman currently in the United States of America on her graduation trip. But just when she is in front of the White House, Washington DC, she gets into trouble, and only the unexpected intervention of one of her fellow countrymen saves her. However, this man, who introduces himself as Akira Takizawa, is a complete mystery. He appears to have lost his memory, and he is stark naked, except for the gun he holds in one hand, and the mobile phone he's holding with the other. A phone that is charged with 8,200,000,000 yen in digital cash.

Anyone else going to be watching this series? I watched the first episode yesterday and was left completely speechless. It was amazing. The series shows a lot of promise, and already I'm hooked. The plot appears to be a very interesting one that I can't wait to explore. It's directed, created and written by Kenji Kamiyama. The same person who directed both Ghost in the Shell series and the amazing Seirei no Moribito. Plus the opening song is by Oasis. This anime has awesome written all over it. I don't want to get myself overhyped from just the first episode, but I'd be surprised if this series doesn't make it into my top 10.

By the way, it is aired every thursday in Japan, and it's being subbed by LunarAnime and Desire Fansubs. The series is going to be eleven episodes long, and the story takes place over only 11 days. A movie that will serve as a sequel to the series is already in production, and is scheduled for release sometime this year. There is a manga called Higashi no Eden, but this series has nothing to do with it. It's a totally original story created by Kenji Kamiyama.

One. The second episode aired a few hours ago I think. Should hopefully be subbed by this weekend. I absolutely love the designs, and the animation is so fluent and crisp.

It's called Monster RANCHER! Not Monster RANCH!

The raw for episode two is out... I couldn't help but download it. Skimmed through and it looks just as good as the first episode. The ending was great as well. So much mystery! Ahh, I need subs! Damn, I don't think I've ever been so hyped over a series.

The second and third episodes were brilliant. This anime just keeps getting better and better each episode. Some more details were revealed during the third episode and upon hearing them it looks like the plot is going to take an extrememly interesting route. Can't wait for the rest!

I think GG did the Code Geass subs so I expect they are of good quality ;)

GG's subs are actually quite lame. They might be better than Desire's but GG are just trolls. They stated that they would sub the first episode only as a joke... but then they go on to sub episode two and three as well. Make your mind up, eh? You gonna drop this series or not? Their translation is surprisingly different from the rest of the subbers too. Frostii and Lunar have the best subs. Desire's are alright, and Mistwalker's are also pretty good. Just because GG subbed Code Geass it doesn't mean they're any good. Oh and Shinsen and Jade are also subbing it I think. Haven't checked them out though. Why does a series need so many subbers? It has as much as Fullmetal Alchemist.

By the way, Higashi no Eden makes the most movie references I have ever seen... In episode one it referenced The Borune Identity and Taxi Driver. In episode two it referenced The Lion King and Ground Zero, and in episode three it referenced Dawn of the Dead, Scarface and Le Grand Bleu. Theres probably more I didn't pick up on as well.

I watched all 4 episodes and I loved it.
Sorry for taking so long I was reading some D.gray-man chapters and watched the latest DBK episode.
But yeah I love the storyline and artstyle, it's awesome.

Did you really watch it? The way the main female lead is drawn instantly reminded be of a Hayao Miyazaki created character. They have that kind of lovable magic. The story starts of very Bourne like, but now it seems to be taking an even more interesting and original direction. The whole Selecao idea is very intriguing. I can't wait to see how both the characters and story develop, and how the series will end considering it's only eleven episodes long. Also, is the opening good or is the opening good? Never has a song matched an opening so well. Oasis suit Higashi no Eden perfectly, and it's so mysterious you get something more from it every time. I love it!

Neversoft

Oasis do not suck, at all. The only people who dislike Oasis are mad metal loving devil worshippers like Paul. Also, you don't deserve to watch the series if you hate on Oasis. :@

Southe,
19-06-2009, 04:49 PM
Thats not faire :( ive always hated oasis.. even before i listen to japanese stuff.

And no imo Oasis do suck i really dont like any of there stuff.. id just skip the OP :(

Use to listen to iron maiden and stuff before i got in japanese music lol.. xD

Neversoft
19-06-2009, 05:34 PM
What do Oasis have to do with Japanese stuff? :P By the way, skipping the opening is an abomination! At least mute it or something instead!

I used to listen to Iron Maiden a lot, even went to see them live, but stopped listening when I found Japanese music lmao. Now I'm into more soft-rock-electronic-kind-of-stuff. Actually what I'm into can't be defined because my favourite band is Nightwish and I'm also into artists such as Enya. My tastes are actually quite diverse now I think about it...

By the way, don't tell me you dislike Radiohead as well?

Southe,
19-06-2009, 08:09 PM
i dont listen to anything english anymore to be honest xD and thats why i mentioned the japanese stuff dnt wanna get called a w.e it is people get called >.>

and lol. about 5-10% of my music is english rest is japanese.. and ive heard a few radiohead dont like them aswell ^^;;

Bands i listen to are like.. Nightmare, Dir en grey, UnsraW, Girugamesh, D'espairsRay, Jan Da Arc, L' Arc~en~ciel, Hironobu Kageyama, Maximum the Hormone.

Atleast 4-5 of them should ring a bell. lol my fave english speaking band is crush40. and one half of the band is japanese.. lol

Neversoft
19-06-2009, 08:45 PM
YOU DON'T LIKE RADIOHEAD!? Have you heard Paranoid Android or Airbag? You're mad.

Maximum the Hormone are awesome but I'm not really a fan of Nightmare. You need some Shocking Lemon in your system! Japanese music has opened me up to a lot of genres I would otherwise never consider listening to from other countries, although I still have to say that Rammstein are the best foreign band. I've come across a few Japanese bands and artists who have just astonished me, and many songs that I just can't stop listening to but I have yet to come across a band whos entire collection I like. Most of the time I like a few songs here and there but usually I'm not interested in their other stuff. When it comes to artists such as Nightwish, Rammstein and Moby however there isn't a song from any of them I don't like. That's the only real advantage English music has over Japanese music from my point of view.

Southe,
19-06-2009, 09:16 PM
meh. lol i prefer japanese to english music just alot better imo.

I definitely think that Japanese pop is so much better than any other kind of pop in the world. Try comparing Ayumi Hamasaki to the Spice Girls. There is no contest, Ayu all the way. Japan also has some pretty insane rock and metal bands, but they're damn weird. I pissed myself laughing when Polysics started playing on Adam and Joe Go Tokyo. Watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O3r5Tm7ui0), it's hilarious. :P Anyway, apart from when it comes to the pop genre, I pretty much prefer English music. Although Japan have some really good techno and electronic artists.

20th Century Boys was referenced in that video at 0:06 and 0:08 so that instantly makes it amazing.

Lol, I found out the other day that Makoto Shinkai (the guy who directed the immensely popular 5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days and Voices of a Distant Star) had been living in London since February 2008 and only recently went back to Japan at the very end of April. I might have walked right past him without knowing!

By the way, heres (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f13wYS6sOuw) Nightmare's cameo in the first 20th Century Boys movie. They were asked to create a rock song that doesn't rock. :P

Excellent series, cant wait for the movie. The ending was kinda' Code Geass-ish

Neversoft

Oh holy mother of god... NOTHING ABOUT THIS ANIME WAS LIKE CODE GAYASS!

I loved Saki's last line - "And just like that, he became a prince. In this country with no kings."

By the way, if you didn't see in the general discussion thread... Saki's monologue at the beginning of the first episode actually concludes the last episode.

"He had no choice but to become a prince. At least since he realized that without a sacrifice called a "prince", the tomorrow we hoped for would never come. Thus reluctantly, he became one. In this world with no princes. Speaking of which, just how did he become a prince? I still haven't figured out that mystery."

Now we just need the movies to conclude things! It's going to be a long wait though. :(
