Was just wondering what benefits people who are good bike riders get. Obviously they are going to have strong/muscular legs but what else? Also does being a good bike rider mean that you will be good at running or have good stamina? I'm wondering about everything really, from muscle gains to strong skin on the hands from holding on to the handle bars. I was told that with bikers using their arms to support themselves they also gain arm muscle but it was by a science supply teacher ages ago. :P

Works your whole body really well, cycling. Good cardio workout as well. I don't know about cycling for increasing your stamina with running, maybe someone else does, but if that's something you're serious about you should get into swimming. It really helps your stamina.

From my years of biking, mainly road biking, I've got stronger leg muscles, Arm muscles, Larger lung capacity and increased stamina when biking, however running isn't my strong point at all and has not been improved by riding. On the mental side, my concentration span has windened and my awareness has improved by having to jump holes in the road and by having to swerve and swear at stupid drivers.

If you're a girl it will break your hymen so your first time will be less messy.

I've found that running/sprinting (stamina) hasn't affected me when I do running activities such as Football, Badminton. I've just noticed a big increase of muscle in my legs and my lung capacity is pretty strong.

It wont neccessarily build muscle mass, the riders you see in the Olympics spend as much time in the gym as they sleep so yeah, you should think of it as being a cardiovascular workout. Increasing the size of your interior muscles. (Your heart is a muscle too)

Long distance it will improve areobic fitness short sports anerobic fittness but remeber it takes 3 minuites of exercising for anerobic to kick in. It will improve resprituary and cardovascular systems and well as helping the muslces in your legs with the build up of lactic acid. Increase in stamina level erm i think that's about it i'm sure there's more but i have to go to school :eusa_whis
