Shouldn't have merged them together. So vastly different from each other.
We have to look at making the amount of Forums smaller to lower server loads and ensure the Forum runs smoothly. Merging TV and Movies is a calculated move in this direction. Although different TV and Film are related and are often put together as a category as a result of their relation.

Hm, I agree here. At least each have a sub-forum? It looks so messy already!

I'm sure the forums on their own didn't do much to slow speeds down. I've never had a problem. Look at the Technology forums, you've got Design and Development and Forum Designing as two individual forums.
Like the above said, it looks a mess. And I wouldn't like there to be a subforum because it'd most likely be film and it would somewhat isolate potential audience.

I agree, there are much, much less active forums which could have been merged/removed instead. As far as I am aware the TV forum was active, not sure about the movies forum though, but looking at the posting times now it seems as though the first page of threads would have at least been active within the past week in the movie forum. It will be confusing sifting through TV programs to find film threads, and vice versa, because people who are interested in films may not be interested in TV. Maybe some [TV] [Film] prefixes at least would help.

Prefixes wont help much as some people are far too lazy to use them, I think this was a bad move as I went to the films forum for films, I don't wanna go through the TV shows to find what I'm interested in, I'm not interested in TV shows, I don't feel I will use that forum much now.

Exactly. The main reason I visit these forums is for the Movies forum. I only ever check out the television forum when there's a thread title that catches my eye on recent posts. I have no interest in discussing TV, and having to physically sift through TV shows and film threads is going to put me right off.

I think that you are probably interested in the Arts side of the film industry - forgive me if I am wrong there. Maybe a suggestion would be to incorporate it into the the Writing and Literature Forum under the Visual Arts Umbrella.
Just a personal thought. :)

No, I just like to talk about film, and film is far more deserving of a spot here than television. It'd be totally unfair to segregate film.

I think before actions like this are taken, the users of this forum have to be consulted. Look what happened to the Writing and Literature forum; it got canned only to be brought back because of a thread. If you intend to delete a forum or merge it with another, it would be wise to post an announcement questioning whether or not the users think it would be a worthwhile idea, rather than being kept in the dark until it happens. Since these are forums after all, people should get a say about what happens.

With all due respect, this was a necessary change for performance related reasons. Our server load was approaching unacceptable levels to the point where we were getting warning messages every day. Some of these consolidations, I understand, are not the most agreeable, but were necessary for Habbox performance reasons.
We did try and minimize the cuts we had to make from an administrative standpoint by taking on board the suggestions made in the "Forum Chopping Block" thread. I actually need to go back and add credit for some of those suggestions.

Well, I can't find that thread. Forum Design should be scrapped when there's already a Design and Development forum. Also, maybe the pointless little badge saying "IT Crowd" would better serve as a non-existant entity?
Can't stand the mess that is the merge so may leave the forum. The lone Movies forum was the only reason I came here. Oh well.

To be fair, I don't think anyone wanted a TV & movie forums to be merged in that thread. There are loads of other suggestions in there which could have been done instead to speed things up (unless they are being done as well because it says 'more to follow'). Since there is no unmerge button, a Film prefix could help people to find threads about movies instead?
I think a better move (if we could turn back time) would be merging the Reality TV forum and the Television forum because they are more similar, and the Reality TV forum isn't as active as the movies forum.

Another example is the relationships forum. There are two sub-forums for gay and straight relationships? What sense does that make? What the hell are you supposed to post in the ordinary relationships forum, your one night stand with a kangaroo?

It's not really up for you to decide which is more deserving, i'm sure others think that TV is better than film. However I agree that less active forums could have been merged instead.

That's a definite possibility, we're currently looking into consolidation of tech forums and some way to reduce the number of "Ask the Staff Forums"
The IT Crowd userbar isn't affecting forum performance.

I looked through every single suggestion, I think almost all of yours were implemented because I remember writing your name next to several, and one or two of Mentor's.
Debates is still under consideration, VIP stuff has been done, Ask Habbox Staff is under discussion, Graphics was done, Tips and Tricks was done, Competitions I have a plan for its one of the "coming soon", Food and Drink was done (or will be done, I need to check the thread), Straight and Gay/Bi is under discussion but they are two vastly different crowds that discuss it, people do talk about heterosexual relationships but we're looking into a merge with Teen Life forums. I missed the suggestion about Tech Discussion but now I've seen it.
So we did go through all of those suggestions but like I said, we had to make more cuts than that and that's when we started making administrative decisions, we took member suggestions to the highest degree that we could and literally looked into every one but at the end of the day we had to make some decisions that had to be made. Ideally I would have preferred not to have had to merge film and tv but hey, that's life. I understand it will upset some people and maybe even alienate a couple but sometimes you just have to take the hit, you can't please everyone :P
there are forum backups though ;)
Not necessarily :P They could be outdated.

I still see a
"VIP Competitions" forum ~ last post 04-01-2009 06:18 PM
"Habbo Tips and Tricks" forum last post20-03-2009 08:02 AM also most of its out of date, and as beta is here now will soon be completely out of date.
I see a "Chat" system which is never used which i'm sure will require server resources to run which is probably most unused thing on the forum..
The ask the staff should be one forum with no subforums and prefix's so even if the person doesn't use a prefix, if their asking the value of a rare its pretty obvious their not asking Habboxlive DJ's or Forum Moderators.
Theres the HxHD section which theres maybe 4 threads a month made which could be easily posted in another forum
Theres a competitions forum which has international competitions which is never posted in. A competition ideas forum which hasn't been posted in for a month, Donated prizes which hasnt been posted in for 7 months (also theres usually an announcement for that and states whos furni is being used as a prize), questions for comps (isn't that what the purpose of the ask the staff is for?!)
Surely you could remove all the subforums but one (comps which have ended) and post active competitions in the main forum and then move them to comps which have ended subforum when finished?

The following in bold and green have already been completed. The rest will be completed within the next couple of days.
Computer Games/Online Games/Console Games merged and prefixes implemented
Elite Nominations Forum Deleted
Categories Reordered to Trading > Habbo > Graphics
Movies and Television merged to TV and Film
Tips and Tricks Forum Deleted (consolidated into the "HxHD Guide" to be posted shortly)
VIP Announcements Deleted. Threads moved to VIP Lounge
The other things you mention such as "Ask Habbox Staff" will be also coming.

We're sorting that out. The "to be continued" was put off till the next Sunday since it was already Wednesday by the time we got back to it, bigger concerns started popping up :P But you're right, all of those are good suggestions that were made.

Well the problem we're having right now is the intensity of a frontpage load. The only difference Chat would make to a frontpage load is if its on the homepage, and from preliminary testing it doesn't make a huge difference, though that could be our computers being crappy.
Plus since not that many people use, its not exactly resource intensive :P

Habbo in general most of the questions could go, ones relating to bugs could go in the appropriate bugs/glitches etc forum.
Every question in there will be about habbox, habbo, or a tech problem. So could go in other forums easily
This also leaves people who are more experienced, know better or even have had the problem themselfs to help, instead of say a help desk member who maybe don't know what the persons talking about as they've never experienced it themselves.
Should surely remove it from the homepage then, as atm some people can select it to load on the forumhome so that'll be using resources to connect to it and get statistics for each room on it everytime someone loads the homepage.
