View Full Version : Font colours, sizes, faces - in posts.

I reckon they should be removed, they serve no purpose apart from to be annoying and useless.
Font styles (bold, italic, underline etc) should be kept, but colours, sizes and faces really aren't needed.
If you think they are, argue why, give points.
Please note: Faces are not smilies, faces are font faces, Arial, Verdana etc.

For actual posts, they aren't really needed, no, and I myself find them annoying when people type like this.
But for signatures and usertitles etc. I find them useful, for example my current signature. :)

I believe the smilies of the rares should be removed. That would decrease sever load time by at least 0.000000000000001 second.

TO CLARIFY:
I meant for posts, not signatures.
Inseriousity.

I like them. I use the faces all the time :) :D :P :eusa_danc:eusa_clap
I've never been on a forum where they don't have them so it's always been seen as the norm for me :P

Oops well you were bound to find some noob who got confused. I don't really use them as I tend to like the default but if I didn't like it, I would like the option to change it so I think it should stay anyway. :)

Surely just "different fonts" would be a better way to phrase it? :P I see your point though, people want to be able to read posts with ease rather than navigate around odd text, sizes and colours, especially when there are different skins.

And, yeah, for posts they should be removed, but for signatures they should stay. :)

they are used in rare values reports though

They can be re-structured quite easily.

itll be great if theyre removed. its annoying when the font is not readable in different skins. cba going through the hassle of highlighting the posts.

I don't really see how it can effect you that much as to warrant it being removed. People can style posts for different situations and make things stand out and is personal choice as to how you style your post, but personally i think you just want to find something to moan about. It's not hurting anyone.

It's annoying as hell, that's why I posted the thread. I don't want to moan about anything.

You choose to use that skin, and it just one post. Highlight it if it's bothering you.

No, I shouldn't need to change skin or highlight it to read it.

Only way to really fix this is to edit every skin to have a light post and signature area, but on the dark skin it may look ugly :/

What about people who advertise in the web host section?
It's highly needed there. (Only the size and colours)

Can't say I disagree sometimes.
But they are there to add more variety and personality to posts, if people want to post in purple or blue then thats fine. A colour isn't really affecting people that much. Plus it makes guides n ting pretty n stuff.

Sammeth I originally doubted it when you said it shows people's personality, but actually you're right, you can tell a lot about someone's personality who changes their font in every post, they're annoying.

Perhaps they don't use it because they get grief from those who stress over it..

Well I agree about most of them but not the colours - I like to do something a bit more colourful for member's birthdays and of course all the mod edits are in red.

I was thinking about the MOD edits as well. I don't see the point in deleting them then the forum would just be more boring. :P

Moderative edits are made in red. Also, colors and sizes are often used by people like Competitions Staff for terms and conditions and in announcements about new events things are color coded etc.
No, I shouldn't need to change skin or highlight it to read it.
.. and they shouldn't be forced to change it in order to suit your wants.

I have to say that this thread is not going anywhere. The font faces, colours etc will stay.
Our staff guides which are huge posts of texts use colours to separate paragraphs and highlight key parts otherwise they become a blur of text.

Its not just things like that, long announcments, tip threads etc.

One would do well to note that the people who are for this idea also seem to be those who were wanting a "minimal layout". Perhaps rather frequent than a teen forum based around a bright and graphic chatsite, such persons should instead just use IRC
