So I haven't gotten to see it yet, but I'm planning on going tomorrow night and I'm excited. Apparently it got an 81 on metacritic, and a lot of my friends that have seen it think it's awesome. :D Anyone here seen it yet? Opinions? I'm not actually sure if it was released in the UK, but I think it was? If you don't know what it was, then just youtube the trailer for it. :)

PS. If you've never seen this, here's the original short that spawned the making of the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1hI8c8HzxU

I don't care too much, I'm not the biggest sci-fi fan. There's a lot of hype. Friends of mine in your native country have told me it doesn't live up to the hype, though is still good. Unfortunately it looks like this is going to open at number one next week, beating Inglourious *******s, which is a shame as the latter is a masterpiece. Already District 9 has got a score of 9/10 with just 3000 votes. People like it and they vote 10. I could go on a whole rant about IMDb. The film's probably going to end up voted the second best film of all time or something absolutely pathetic like The Dark Knight's position.

I really want to see it, but it comes out on September 4th for UK.
I could always just go on a site were it's been illegally filmed. :P

There is quite a bit of hype so I hope I don't end up disappointed by it. I'm a huge sci-fi nerd though, so I feel like I'm going to like it no matter what. And I haven't seen Inglorious *******s yet but I really want to. It looks intense!

Ooh that sucks you guys have to wait till Sept 4th. And you could always watch it online, but the experience is so much better in theaters.. :D

It looks kind of strange. The trailers made it look like a documentary?

It's sort of documentary-esque. I liked it though!! They set up the end so there's a possibility of a sequel and I kind of hope they won't make one because I'm sure it would ruin it.

I agree, Speaking to friends it isn't as good as everyone speculates.(bit like DTESS remake). I haven't seen it yet but i hope Inglourious *******s does better as it looks like it is going to add to the Tarantino brilliance.

I heard how no end of Americans thought it was supposed to be 100% historically accurate at the same level as say SPR, and then after viewing it believed it was.

Saw it yesterday and thought it was amazing. No wonder Peter Jackson put his trust in this new guy. Can't wait to see what else he has to offer for years to come.

I've heard it's supposedly an awesome film and the reviews I've seen have all been positive, me and my mates want to go and see it. We will do sometime. Probably on a Wednesday some night because we love getting in for half price, haha :)

It was very good, but way overhyped. About the third best film I've see theatrically this year.

Yeah it's a mockumentary :).

Woah. Which being the first, Pulp?

Yes.

Three screenings now. Glad it's made more cash than District 9.

Thought so. Ha, How the alien in the trailer looks kind of disappoints me. But how aliens look in films always disappoints me (Signs for example).

How do they disappoint you? It's a new, fresh take on aliens in my opinion and I was glad they were something far from the norm. Plus you do realise the entire film was made on a $30 million budget? Also, District 9 isn't really a mockumentary. The first 20 minutes are in a documentary like format, but the rest of the movie is normal storytelling.

I saw it today. Enjoyed it, but throught the evictions section dragged on a little bit. Other than that I thought it was pretty good.

Oh OK, that's cool :). I was expecting it all to be the same style.

Sorry to bump, I just saw this before.

What a really strange film! I found it so intense and the main character is just so weird. Every second scene I was alternating between hating him and feeling sorry for him. I reckon the whole thing was really good at tapping into various different emotions.

I take back what I said about the image of the aliens. The trailer I saw had one being interrogated and I thought it just looked like some tree person. However that scene wasn't even in the film and the aliens did in fact look really good. I thought their movement on screen was amazing too as stuff like that usually looks kind of weird and almost in slow motion but these were perfect.

Found it a bit hard to follow to begin with though as the humans and aliens seemed to be ale to understand each other pretty quickly and the aliens were even able to read English. Although I realise some parts were over 20 years on but this is only apparent because you hear people saying it. Nobody seemed to age at all for example.

I kind of hated the main character's accent as well, it was like a mix of about seven different accents. Every time he shouted the F word it sounded like a mix of Irish and Scouse. Wasn't he meant to be Dutch or something? And I also didn't understand why the Nigerian people were living in the alien camp to begin with. o.O

Anyway overall I thought it was a very good film and the whole thing was a pretty accurate interpretation of how mankind probably would react if such an event were to happen.
