I know most forums adopt this kind of rule but don't you think it's a bit harsh?
if most forums don't allow them i don't see how its harsh if Habbox don't allow it :S
Um if no other forums have it who's to say it's harsh because HxF ALSO don't have it? :S:S

I'm not particularly pointed out Habbox i'm just saying why aren't referral links allowed?
Can someone explain why this is the case? :S
Well if no other forum have it why would HxF have it? lol?

There's forums out there that allow referral links to be posted..
If there ARE forums out there that allow referral links then I withdraw me saying "no other forum" to "most forums" then.
They dont allow it because they made a rule banning it... simple :S

That's not the answer i'm looking for. Why is refferal links so bad that it's not allowed?
I've seen a few mods looking at this thread and i don't think no one has the answer. :P

Well they were banned here:

because of the sheer volume of them they were spamming up the forum and there were a lot of complaints. The other reason was that 'pointless' rep was being given out.

I didn't even know these where banned.
Not to be a pain but they are even banned in the web host section where people tend to advertise affiliates?

Hmm fair enough.
Won't happen but instead of banning refferal links altogether, maybe just limit people on how many refferal links they can post. Maybe allow them to post in spam only.
Anyway it's a suggestion.

Yeah it's a bit silly tbh but what can you do? :(

They were actually banned in spam first as they caused a huge problem and its in the spam specific rules.

I can see why they're not allowed to be posted in threads, but surely they're allowed in signatures..

Now that you mention it it does seem weird.

At first I thought this thread was about Habbox referral links. I've never known how to find out my Habbox referral link and often wondered why it's not easily acessable..

There isn't one :P When people sign up they just put your name in the 'Referrer' section!

Sorry I didn't see that announcement! In that case that's a ridiculous ruling. If referral links are banned to stop the forum being spammed up by threads advertising those sorts of sites, what's wrong with having it in your signature where every other form of advertising is allowed?

If people want money they should go get a job, not spam the forums with crappy referal links. There annoying and for the most part totally pointless. There essentially just e-pyramid schemes.
I full support them being disallowed.

In that case can we also ban "For sale" threads where they simply just link to items they've posted on eBay or try to sell it through the forum on Paypal. The threads provoke no discussion at all, and frankly I don't use this forum to do my weekly shop, neither does anyone else. They just spam up the forum in much the same way referal links do and there's no real advantage to them being there.
Particularly in the Technology Discussion and Console Gaming Forums they're riddled with them and often there's accusations of scamming which also causes hostility between members.
I believe a notable exception to this rule would be the web design section where there is dedicated sub-forums to the sale of things.
Who's with me? :D

I'll admit I'm having a brain lapse with all the late nights so I can't remember exactly why we did but I remember that referrals threads were causing a lot of problems.
Among them were the spamming of referrals thread, also things like urlcash or whatever on the beginning of links in an effort to mooch off of clicks (which is just irritating) along with hidden referral links, etc.
