heres the story..

basically i sold virtual items (not habbo :l) for $160 via paypal in whic after the trade (gave items and been paid) i noticed the name was different from paypal making me think it was stolen.

i then ignored this and refreshed paypal to double check the cash to find that he had opened a case saying he never made the payment and wanted his money back!
and i have been put into negative (went from £4.50 to £6.91 since 16th september) and paypal have the $160 on hold (never spent it).

when i go to click to refund it it says i don't have funds etc which i am really confused about!

basically all i want to know is *** am i supposed to do? i cant refund it, i been put in negative and the cash i never spent, paypal have it on hold!

it also says on the case:

This happened to me, you need to reply on the dispute saying that he has recieved the items and it's an in-game item, so proof cannot be given. They then close the dispute.

I'm gunna let others have their input because I'm not the most knowledgable with PayPal, but all I am saying is, if you stay in a negative balance, they WILL start sending you letters, court dates etc :P

I have refunded the payment for this transaction.

You're ******, I did this, sold like 2,000 habbo coins on Ebay for £80 about a year ago, (or something like that) ~ next day, the buyer disputed the payment, and I didn't have a leg to stand on, so I am sorry to say, but you won't be getting that money.

As for the negative payment, I don't know on that one, just pay it back if you can, or close you're paypal account and whatnot if you can't?

I really wish I could help you get your money back, but I can't, it's now impossible for you to get that money back, you have no proof of transaction, nothing, and even if you did, they wouldn't allow it, because they nor Habbo don't allow virtual online goods (owned by Sulake) to be sold.

Sorry to break it to you. :(

Re-read my post, I added some more information :); and yes, the person who send the cash, got it back, it's a well known scam, next time, to avoid this, get them to send you the money through the post, that's what I'd do if I ever sold virtual goods again.

oh im just confused why its saying stuff like issue refund and stuff and then after case you said the money they had on hold went to them?

UNLESS, they want me to pay off negative first!

I don't know, you may need to pay off your debt first, but I haven't had that problem before so I cannot comment.

You won't get a refund, because you will not get your stuff back, basically, he's took your ''items'' - and he's getting his money back too, and he's leaving you with the debt.

urgh so basically i gotta get $175? (negative and the cash from trade) :@

Robbie

I've been disputing this with PayPal and the Financial Ombudsman for about 4 months now. They're chasing me for £410 from selling some scripts I made, but they're not getting a penny. They got NCO Europe debt collections to call me but once I told them the Financial Ombudsman was dealing with it they said they wont call again.

My case officer agrees with me that I shouldn't have to pay, and says it's part of the Unfair Trades Act or something that you're not covered when you sell services/virtual items.

user130523

look i still had cash in paypal when the case was opened, not one penny spent - they have this on hold and i been put into negative £6.91

am i supposed to earn a whole $175 to refund this person and the negative?
i dunno! i just want this off my back and paypal to piss off :(

Robbie
21-09-2009, 04:06 PM
PayPal WILL give it them back when they finish their 'investigation' - just don't spend anything and you'll be OK, you will have just lost whatever you sold.

you postive?

as it says:

does that just mean that if i don't reply i don't really have a chance and they will just give cash to the person then leave me alone?

Robbie
21-09-2009, 04:09 PM
You won't have a chance even if you do reply. It was not real goods so you have no proof you sent anything, and they don't accept anything other than real tracking numbers from Royal Mail, UPS, ParcelForce etc.

And yes, you will not be in negative balance but the person will get their money back

still not sure if im convinced!

coz it has options of refunding which aint working and paypal got $160 on hold!
so i think they wanting me to earn $160 and negative back dont you? :S

StefanWolves
21-09-2009, 07:38 PM
listen, the $160 is put on hold because he's disputed it, in other words, trying to claim his money back by saying he wasn't the person who bought the stuff, e.g, someone was 'on his account' but this is just a cover up, paypal should have asked you for your side of the story, e.g, evidence, but guess what, you've got none! even if you did they wouldn't accept it because it's agains Habbos ToS and PayPals.

within the next week the person you sold the 'virtual goods' to, will get his money back.

you aren't getting that money back, so you can get that out of your head right now. :(

user130523
21-09-2009, 08:03 PM
- i know i aint getting cash back
- its a dispute so i cant fight to get it back if i wanted to, its only options are:

refund (dont get that because i cant refund if they have money on hold)
show i posted the items (he did this so i cant get money back)
show i refunded (which i aint)

so basically i should leave till wednesday (when 7 days up) and they will just give cash to him? no letters/phone calls to me about the negative or he wins or to pay him or nout? they should just give the money on hold to him and get rid of my negative & close case then i can close account (cant atm due to negative) and just never use paypal again? :D lol.

anyone respond to my other post, one before lifeasitis

all i want to know is, once case closes on wednesday or w/e happens on wednesday - am i going to get phone calls/letters about it?

1. i still got cash on paypal, they got on hold
2. aint spent any of it
3. i negative £6.91

(as said in post before lifeasitis and other posts - read them please!)

StefanWolves

im guessing that debt is there because of the paypal fees of the transaction of the virtual goods, if it's being reversed then no you shouldn't have to worry, it should just go away.

okay, i hope so!

too much going on in life, cba with this :/

I would reckon that once the case is closed, the funds should be transferred back to the user who started the claim. The negative balance on your account is probably to stop you from being able to spend any money through the PayPal system until the dispute is solved.

I wouldn't expect phone calls considering that the user is going to get their money back, as its going to get refunded. I don't see why the money would have automatically been returned, I think the way it works is that it is put on hold and then you should still be able to refund. Its as if the funds that were sent are in limbo, to prevent any party from being able to use them.

Hmm you shouldn't really have a problem.. Can paypal increase the amount you owe them if you dont pay it back, after all you gave no agreement of interest or anything like that?

Haven't read thread but this happened to me not too long ago.

Just reply to the dispute as if you're trying to settle it with the other person. State what exactly happened. For me, PayPal ruled the dispute in favour of the other person so I had lost my items and received no money. But I emailed them saying something on the lines of that they have made a mistake and their method of making the decision is clearly flawed. Somehow this caused them to re-reverse the payment back to me so in the end I received the money.

This was after most people had told me as it was virtual items and I was the seller, I had no chance of winning the dispute, but somehow I did.

Also, the whole process will take a couple of weeks. Don't be stressing about getting it sorted quickly. PayPal are slow, just try the stuff I suggested as it worked for me :).

Please include any additional relevant information regarding this transaction in the box below. This information may be supplied to law enforcement agencies as requested. The information supplied by you may not change the outcome of the claim.

anyone know what that means? :/ - is law/court/police getting involved? :@

you're looking into it too much, it means if you can't pay back the money then a debt collection agency may come looking for it. Since the money is in hiatus, and is going to get given back you dont really have to worry.

What they want is pretty much details of what was sold and what happened, don't worry about it too much. It probably wont get to the stage of collection agencies, as you say the money has been taken from your account by PayPal.

At this point, I just wrote how the other person was clearly lying and pointed out some flaws in what they had said where they had kind of tripped themselves up.

Seriously, just wait for them to say they have decided in favour of the other person, then email saying how they have clearly made a mistake etc etc. Just stay calm and polite is the best approach.

Good luck.

I haven't read the thread btw, but;

Intangable goods you are NOT covered for by guarantee SO;

He will get his money back, you will get nothing.

You wont be in debt, and your paypal balance will go to what it was before anything ever happened, so dont worry :)
