Ford Fiestas are very good first time cars, as well as the Corsa you mentioned :)

Yep, Micras and Japanese cars generally. Basically don't buy French. This is the advice I was given for reliability anyway :P.

I'm pretty sure other than my Mini, a Micra was the cheapest thing I could find to insure.

Yeah, I'd go for a VW Polo/Gold. They're German and solid as a rock.

Get a Panzer if you are going German otherwise I reckon a commodore, everyone seems to get them.

I'd recommend a vauxhall corsa, and they are pretty reasonable to insure :)
