No, the ones called idiots are the ones who haven't learned, and therefore have become the start of a cycle that has no end in sight.

Awesome movie. I could probably write a whole page explaining why I would say such a thing, but hey, anyone who has actually seen the movie would agree with me.

People do personally attack me, as evident in a plethora of other threads. I stand up for myself the same as I do offline, not hiding behind a computer. What you see is what you get with me, I have nothing to hide behind. People challenge every post I make and don't read what I say properly so they keep repeating themselves, which has me endlessly posting what I have already said. I haven't worked my arse off for years to get where I am so my word on film is to be continously challenged, and more often than not because people simply haven't taken a liking to me. Yet again, proving my point of repeating myself since I already said I am not bitter about Inglourious *******s taking just one award because it was to be expected. I posted in this thread attempting to inform you of how Hollywood award shows work, yet obviously people don't want to listen to someone in the industry who makes an attempt to teach people how the business works. Like I said, anyone who doesn't want to believe what I have said about the awards is naive and doesn't know the business, so rather than having people provide irrelevant disputes to the words of someone living the business. Your ideas of Hollywood seem to be what you see on TV; everyone living in their own bubble of luxurity, paradise, movie magic, glitz and glamour. Well it isn't, it's the most cut-throat, ruthless business on earth. No one else on here puts food on the table by working in film. I'm proud of what I've accomplished and I'm damn good at what I do, I can gurantee you I'm one of the few my age in the world who is in my position, so when I speak about the industry, people listen and show respect, because those who don't won't get any from me. I AM GOD.

And for his idiot remark, i've been caught plenty of times bursting out stuff that got me infracted because of some posts annoying me, he's basically had a full 25 pages of it. I'd expect it to crop up somewhere if you annoyed him that long.
but for this thread, i wrote half my media homework off it.

Yeah, you'd think so. You'd think people wouldn't call other people "idiots" for having different opinions too. Huh.
By the way Voiceover, I actually adore Misawa. He's one of the forum's biggest characters and without him, TV/Film would die. Plus, he actually does work in film so knows more about the business called show than anyone. As well as the fact he gets right up people's noses and posts hilarious comments like the one I quoted.

But he didn't call anyone an idiot specifically. If he had he would have been infracted or cautioned. He generalised the people who believe Hollywood to be how he described it as idiots, and to be fair I agree.

no he didnt say, 'josh, youre an idiot,', but as you said, he generalised everone who disagreed with him. He wasnt talking about hollywood as such, only later on did he mention about the naivety of the people who think its all a glitz and glam lifestyle. He was talking about people who thought avatar deserved to win.
and not only that, but when he demands respect from people just because he works in the business, its not the greatest way to go about making friends,
Anyone who disagrees with Avatar being the worst nominee amongst the listed films in both winning categories is quite simply an idiot.

But he's right :S. His problem lies within the fact that no matter what he says, people disregard or criticise him, and more often than not they don't have a clue what they're talking about - at least not as much as he does. Like what's the deal with people needing proof of his profession? I don't see people demanding proof from Leah working in Argos or from Blinger being a baker :S (not targeting them or anything, they're just the only examples I know of lol).

(just so you know, i havnt discredited him as not being a producer or anything or asked for proof)
what exactly is he right on? the only reason you think hes right is because you agree with him, as its your opinion. Maybe other people thought that another film in that category was the worst nominated film. I shall repeat myself again, film is subjective, hes kicking up a hissy fit over avatar being nominated because he sees things that others wont or just dont pay attention too. adam should have learnt by now that many people on this forum pay attention to whether it was entertaining or not, not about direction, or whether it had good acting in. Its why a lot of people have agreed that avatar should have won on best film for drama, as they liked the film they saw.

I know you didn't say anything about his job ;).
It may be my opinion, but the reasons that have been used to explain why it doesn't deserve such awards are actual facts. Look at the image someone posted somewhere of a Pocahontas script which clearly shows how you can just change the nouns to make it exactly the same as Avatar. It's not like he or anyone else are just making rash statements. There is evidence to back them up.

As I have said, the awards aren't voted for by the people, they are voted for by specific judges. Votes aren't based on generic cinema goers who don't look into deeper into a film to see why shots are the way they are, etc, they are based on the craft of a film.

but youre stll missing my point. People are saying it was a good film, and deserved such awards. And thats their opinion. Adams opinion was that it doesnt deserve such awards. its not based on facts, opinion. People dont take in the facts to their opinion if they are not critical of a film. You can like a film because it was entertaining, which is why they thought it deserved the film. Theyre not going to change their mind due to the fact that you or anyone else has said it had bad direction and actors..
As for the Pocahontas script, it was a generalisation of the plot. As well as that, surely that means that no remakes can be given an award?
@Adam,
Thats my point.. You were calling people idiots and telling them to respect you because youre in the business. The people who were saying it deserved it was the general viewing public, who also deserve an opinion. They gave it, and theyve said that they thought it deserved an award. It entertained them more so than the other films. And that was their point.

I'm still repeating myself - awards are based on the intricacies of film-making, not how people other than the judges feel about it. And also like I have already said, the judges' decision was based neither on the intricacies of film-making nor how people outside the judges feel about the film.

I understand what you're saying Josh, but these opinions ARE based on facts. The script is IDENTICAL. And a remake is a remake. This wasn't supposed to be a remake of anything. MY OPINION is that if it wasn't visually stunning, it would be absolutely diabolical.
I'm surprised you haven't argued how Dances With Wolves is a copy of Pocahontas, but at least that puts some depth into the main character and you actually end up feeling really sorry for him towards the end. In fact it ends differently now that I think of it :P.

I called those idiots who think that Avatar has better cinematography than The Hurt Locker. I don't consider that opinion because a shot is a shot, and The Hurt Locker is, rather than just fast cuts and endless action shots, beautiful frame after beautiful frame. Perhaps you'd understand more if you understood cinematography.

your opinions are based on the intricacies of the film, as misawa pointed out. The public do not pick up on these, as per this thread, and have based their opinion on how entertaining it was.

You've basically just agreed that the only entertainment value of Avatar lies within the visual effects. So why the **** did you even start posting in this this thread about opinions and Adam and everything else? :S
You're only repeating yourself because you want to argue regardless of what anyone else responds with and when someone does counteract what you say, you've got nothing else to use.

Because even though the visuals made the film, it was still entertaining and personally was probably one of the better films nominated. not only that but when he starts mouthing off on the forum, like im just going to ignore it..

Well this whole argument started with the disagreement over whether or not the visuals were what made the film good. Now you're agreeing with it so I don't see what the point of the argument was in the first place and it just emphasises the fact that Adam knows what he's talking about and despite your protests, you have essentially just proven he is right.

I believe he means that the visuals helped to make it a good film but weren't the sole reason that it was good which is the viewpoint I and most of my friends hold. In regards to Adam, just because he says it's a fact it doesn't make it so.
At the end of a day it should not be critics or film makers who judge a film but the population itself and judging by both the Box office numbers and IMDB ratings it is very high.

the whole argument was actually started when he branded the forum idiots for not believing what he was saying. The award was 'Best Motion Picture - Drama', this can be interpreted in many ways. Adam sees it as cinematography, and acting, and directing, whilst others may see it as visual effects or how entertaining it was. The visual effects made it entertaining yes, but there were other aspects of it which also contributed to the entertainment value of it.

Hard to say. As a kid I always associated Titanic with being a "girly" film. I know it's stupid but I guess it's mainly because I only ever heard girls talk about it and DiCaprio etc. Now that I'm older, I should probably watch it again with an open mind. Either way, I'm pretty confident it is much more worthy than Avatar.
