CNET's buzz out loud podcast do this every year (as I'm sure a lot of other publications do too) so I thought this might be fun on hxf!
Basically post what you think will (or won't) happen during the next year in the tech world. It can be things on the internet, new devices and software that might or might not come out or a paradigm shift that you think will happen that no-one else saw coming (like mp3 players being implanted into birds for universal speakers). In a year we'll dig the thread up and see how many people were right or wrong! Post as many or as few things as you want and don't take the piss saying stuff like "flying cars won't come out".
I'll start off:
Myspace will be closed down or bought by an obscure company and will be never be heard from again Apple will release a tablet computer which will fail on its arse We will see a glimpse of one of the next generations of games console Windows mobile will take a massive market share hit and will be released on very few new phones by december Opera desktop browser will increase it's market share Half life 2 episode 3 won't come out

iphone will stop being a fad.

Almost every PC will come with a touch screen
Android and webOS will start to become key mobile OSs, and by the end of year will be starting to catch up with the iPhone.
Vodafone might actually give its customers free access to Facebook!
An iPhone will be launched in June, with a better camera, and hopefully multi-tasking. A new Nano will be announced in September, in several horrible colours, probably with a 2MP or 3.2MP camera. along with an iPod touch (likely with camera, and 128Gb storage space), and a bigger iPod Classic (250Gb), and a shuffle, which will be higher capacity and smaller (up to 16Gb).
Quad-core processors will be standard in most £4-500 PCs.
Netbooks will get thinner, faster, better spec'd, cheaper, and will stop using that god awful Windows 7 starter edition
Twitter will see a HUGE increase in usage, Facebook won't, and Myspace and Bebo will be nearly dead.
There will be a HUGE rise of interest in Spotify.
OLED prices will drop significantly.
Nvidia will launch a DX11 chip very late in the year, if not in 2011.
AMD will have a 6-core processor nearly ready to sell
Blu-ray recorders will fall under £200, and players under £50
More and more places will provide free Wi-Fi
The Rickroll will be effectively dead, and will have been replaced with some other mistake (probably Kanye West at the VMAs)
Freeview HD.
One 3D channel on Sky, probably on its own little extortionately priced package
There will be a mobile phone readily available for £5.
2Tb will be the norm for HDD storage.

Google Voice takes over Skype in the US, and possibly the UK depending on whether it's released over here
Apple's tablet will be surprisingly popular, forcing other manufacturers to begin making them (Dell tablet anyone?)
Netbooks sales will drop as laptop prices lower and smartphones become more capable
Android over takes iPhone marketshare
Once again, no significant changes will be made to the iPhone or iPod Touch. Presumably just some minor OS changes and Disk Space increased
Windows Mobile 7 develops considerably interest towards the end of the year
Successor to both the Wii & Xbox 360 announced or leaked during the year, although it might be a year or two until somethings actually released
Google Chrome OS fails as there's no real need for it despite it being a great idea
Twitter usage will decline and might be bought by a large firm, eBay, Google, Microsoft, News Corporation, one of them :P
Google Wave will do very well and improve a lot
AgnesIO
01-01-2010, 07:06 PM
Apple will release it's own line of touchscreen computers. They will charge about £3,000 for this.
iPhone contracts will stay the same.
A new generation of iPhone's will be released
Many computers will come with 2TB storage
i7 Processors will much more common in Dell computers
Intel Quad-Core will be the norm in new computers
Alienware will release a new touchscreen gaming PC
More online storage
Habbox will have 200 more members offering crap hosting
Google Wave will finish BETA stage
Sky will offer 3D channels
Sky+3D will be released, offering HD and 3D channels
Googles new computer OS will be a hit, but not many computer companys will install the OS onto there computers
All new touchscreen phones will have an APP store
OLED will become a more popular buy.
Plasma Screen TV's will be the norm in many houses
Apple WON'T start charging there prices in the UK
Sony Vaio laptops WON'T become boring
My little input :)
Callum.
01-01-2010, 07:08 PM

Google Chrome OS will flop big time, consumers don't want private data stored on servers, current 3G network providers don't have the capacity and there will be no applications for it.
YouTube will actually begin dishing out 'proper' 1080p video services
OnLive on demand gaming services will flop due to latency problems and download limits
Gran Turismo 5 will FINALLY come out.. maybe?

Twitter will expand it's current services, in some ways users will love, in others, users will hate
MySpace will take it's final blow and get off the social networking scene
Sky will start charging for news, lose huge user base
Core i9 will flop due to it's oldest and older brothers, i7 and i5

The Mini-USB phone charging standard will finally come into play
Office 2010 is released, absolutely pwning iWork, OO.O, or any other office system
SSDs will drop in price significantly
Spotify will become ever more filled with adverts
Apple will lose against Nokia in their law suits

Touchscreen computing will fail horribly
The BBC news website will still be terrible for Technology related news
Engadget will still bum out Apple to a rediculous extent
Project Natal will be delayed

Apple to standardise prices again, reaching downwards to £500 for the cheapest iterations of Macbook.
iPhone to be released in June, 5 megapixel camera, multi-tasking and improved UI, as well as aesthetic changes and slimmer and thinner, possibly with a larger/higher definition screen.
Microsoft to lose further market share, Internet Explorer market share to drop under 60%
Linux to make a possible foothold in the Netbook line, as well as rumours of Google Chrome OS
Google Phone January 5th
Google to further monopolize the technology market.
Google and Apple to possibly invoke huge problems.
Saying 'touchscreen is going to be a standard' is incredibly unrealistic, but Apple's touchscreen device, either the iSlate or the iGuide to be announced possibly January 22nd, as a 10" touchscreen tablet computer capable of running applications in a similar fashion to the iPhone.
24" Monitors to become a basic standard.
Windows 8 to be announced already.
Possibly a new iteration of Mac OS to be announced, likely with the name 'Lion' or 'Cougar'.
Google to announce world domination.
Firefox 4 will be released.
http://tekcube.net/internet/firefox-4-delayed-late-2010early-2011/

They already trademakred Cougar and Lynx as OS X names when they trademarked Tiger, they only just announced 10.6 (we're currently on 10.6.2, Tiger went up to 10.4.11), it'll be a good while before 10.7

I agree with a few that have been said but my main one is probably that this Blackberry craze will finally blow over and they'll become obsolete again. I haven't looked at them in detail, but in my opinion they must be very cheap or something for so many people to have them over the likes of the iPhone. They're the ugliest things I've ever seen and look way too fiddly. Haha, this reminds me of back in in like 2002, everyone wanted the tiniest phones imaginable but today everyone has all sorts of bricks :P.
I also think Nintendo will either go even further with their "futuristic" kind of gaming thing they have going on but this time we won't all get suckered in by it so they sell out everywhere.
Venturing to the more unrealistic realms of this thread, I really wish something would be invented where you can watch TV through a digital receiver without an aerial. I don't actually understand why an aerial is needed for the likes of Sky etc (especially now that there is no analogue TV anyway).
I think this too. I was looking at my iPod the other day and was thinking, this is pretty big and heavy for something that just plays 80GB worth of files. Maybe Apple will spend a bit of money on producing some decent earphones for a change.
Apple probably have five more generations of products lined up every time one is released which is why I haven't bought an iPhone yet. You really think they were unable to include a camera in the original one? They just know people will buy it anyway and later on they can release a new version and include features that were previously missing.
Twitter will fail
Yeah and it'll just be Stephen Fry all by himself :P. It makes me cringe as well to think who still uses MySpace?! Probably just Tom lol.
Spotify will become ever more filled with adverts
My mate was telling me you can't even get Spotify for free any more! He doesn't already have it and it was trying to make him subscribe to download it... Anyway yeah, every time I go back to my Spotify window after that Kia advert, there's a big car in my face and I'm like get the hell off my screen :@.

I'd like to add a few.
Spotify will reopen registrations, and will become even more popular
More and more airlines (I know some already are) will supply planes fitted with some form of Wi-Fi or seatback browser in Business AND Economy. (This excludes Ryanair (who will soon charge extra for access up the stairs to the plane probably), Easyjet and other budget airlines)
Sony Ericsson might produce a phone that has Wi-Fi that works when the user wants it to, and an antenna that will try and find a signal again after you lose it. (please tell me if any Sony Ericsson phone actually does this. My W715 doesn't)
The speed of mobile internet will increase quite dramatically. Speeds of 5mb would not be unreasonable.
Flat-screen TV's will get even thinner, and the SCART socket will start to die out completely with the advent of HDMI upscaling DVD players, Blu-Ray, and Sky+HD/V+HD/Freeview HD/Freesat HD/Whatever comes along next.
There will be a new incarnation of the Apple TV, possibly with iPhone-esque apps, and its own App Store. The HDD size will go up to 250/320/500Gb/1Tb, and there may be an option for a Blu-Ray drive. It will be controlled by a standard remote, with an optional keyboard and Magic Mouse available.

Actually they would, 5mbps is the theoretical maximum for 3g I think.True but 3G isn't the best anymore, most new phones use HSPDA (3.5G) these days which has a theoretical maximum of 15mb usually, although it's most like 3mb.
Talking of mobile networks though, I imagine 4G will be implemented in London in the first or second quarter of the year and most major cities in the UK will have some coverage of it by the end of the year.
More and more airlines (I know some already are) will supply planes fitted with some form of Wi-Fi or seatback browser in Business AND Economy. (This excludes Ryanair (who will soon charge extra for access up the stairs to the plane probably), Easyjet and other budget airlinesWi-fi in the UK won't happen, it works in the US because all their internal flights are over land. They simply have mobile masts on the ground, but instead of pointing the signal to the ground, they point it to the sky. There's very few internal flights within the UK, and the majority of flights include flying across the channel, atlantic, north sea or irish sea so there's no chance of it happening in the UK seeing as you can't put masts in the middle of the sea. And for it to happen over Europe, countries would have to work together to build the network and share the costs and I can't see that happening either, with the US it's all in one country so much easier to organise. Until someone successfully gets satellite internet working on planes then there's no hope for Wi-fi in Europe.
However, in the next year or two I do expect Wi-fi to become the standard on all passenger trains and National Express have been trialling Wi-fi on some of their coach routes, I suspect this will be implemented on more Coaches throughout the year too.

That's actually a bug in a lot of phones, the iPhone, HTC phones, Nokia phones etc, don't ask me why but it is lol
Also at guy above, 200mbp/s isn't happening in the UK for consumers anytime soon, ill tell ya that LOL

Palm will almost give up on WebOS but not quite by the end of 2010...Q1 2011 will see the death of WebOS.
The iPhone will continue to rule the world of phones.
Android will grow massively, until it reaches a level of success comparable to that of the iPhone - how quickly this happens depends on whether HTC and the other major manufacturers put everything into it
Twitter will continue to grow, but more slowly. Someone will buy it - probably Google.

The only reason I prefer the PS3 is that its more of an open platform, I can do much more on my PS3 than I can on my 360. However for online play I do prefer my 360, by far.

I have both, and the Playstation online system is nowhere near the standards of the 360 online system.
Xbox online system looks nicer, is faster, easier to use... the list could continue but I don't have the time.
However at the moment overall I do prefer the PS3.
Lol I love it when people start a list, run out of things to say and go "I could go on but I won't because my dog has turned into a plantpot and is dancing the fandango on my oven" :P
I haven't found any issues with the PSN so far, why is it supposedly worse than Xbox live?

It all started when it first came out. Sad xbox users that couldn't believe something better than the Xbox 360 was here, went 'PSN IS ****' simply because not many people were on it. Basically it was an argument started by Xbox users saying nobody has PS3's, there is it rubbish, should never have been made, and makes them feel better about themselves that they bought an Xbox.

XBL just feels much more ergonomic, if you like. I guess it's hard to explain. Tell ya what, I'm gonna make an effort to play my PS3 again more often and start a fresh to make another comparison :wink_blue.
You know what nobody ever mentions what well does my head in... when you get a trophy or a friend sings in or you get a message etc, the box that pops up is SOOO BIG. It's like OK I SEE IT NOW GET OUT OF MY WAY. On the 360, it's much less in your face and doesn't stay for as long, but more importantly it doesn't block your view of the bloody game.

I find PSN is a lot nicer than XBL, you don't get hundreds of kids screaming down the mic in COD too, which is always a bonus!
I also find the trophy and friend notifications are fine, a small message in the top right hand corner which only stays there for about 5 seconds anyway. To be fair, considering PSN is totally free right now (online play always will be) I think it is better.

It's not small though, the box is huge especially for what it displays. FIFA is a good example of a game where it gets in the way the most, if you're any way near the far touch line, it means you can't see what you're doing for a few seconds which, regardless of what anyone says, is annoying.
MrPinkPanther

XBL is much more organised and faster to find what you want, I'm not saying it's worth £40 a year or whatever but it is better in my opinion. The only people who tend to prefer PSN are Playstation owners who are bound to by bias.

To be honest have you seen what Microsoft are doing now though? they are soon to release an arcade room where your avatar can walk around and such. They will be charging $2.50 per multiplayer arcade game and 50c per single player game (Not sure on UK price). PSN has the bowling alley in PlayStation Home with some games (Bowling, Pool, some kind of arcade game, darts (I think) and some other things) for free, sure its not classic arcade games but they are still free.
I'm just basing this on what I have seen, and no I do not own a xbox360 (only the original xbox) and yes I own a ps3 -- start flaming me.

No, actually, game play on 360 is far faster than that of the PSN. I find PSN laggy especially on Fifa, whereas on my 360 games are far less laggy, I can compare these as I have played it on both consoles, and that's just what I think. Yes, the list can go on, and no, my dog has not turned into a plant pot. :P

:P
So now I'm a sad 360 user? Just face it, I have both, I have seen both online networks, the 360 system is far faster, nicer UI, more user friendly. When I first got my PS3 I didn't know where to start, it was all a bit complicated (my opinion, flame me if you want I don't give a ****, that's my opinion), however when I got my 360 it was much more easier... that's what I think.
Well, no. XBL is better than PSN. I'm personally a Wii fan but I accept that XBL is the best for online then PSN and then Wii, it's just a lot smoother process on XBL.
Yes, I totally totally agree, xbl is a lot smoother.
How can one be better than the other? You play a game online - they both do the same thing.
The things they offer, the way they look, how it makes you feel. (sounds silly but it all adds up)
Yeah that's what I thought ^ I've played XBL at friends houses and PSN on my ps3 and i've never had problems with either.
I've never had MAJOR problems with my PSN, its just that I find it more laggy online than my 360, and I find it slightly more confusing to use, the xbl online system, I find, is easier.
XBL just feels much more ergonomic, if you like. I guess it's hard to explain. Tell ya what, I'm gonna make an effort to play my PS3 again more often and start a fresh to make another comparison :wink_blue.

Your first comment is very easy to solve, ITS CALLED MUTING!!! amazing yes? Yes, PSN is good as its free, there is no denying that, but I'd rather pay £28 a year (Ebay ftw), and have a much better online experience.
I'll repeat what I said earlier, my opinion is that the 360 online play is far superior than that of the Playstations. However, overall, game play, things added into the PS3, what you can get from it... It's more over an open platform - also, having its browser is also a big bonus IMO, which is why I do prefer my Playstation. Also, I find graphics on my PS3 to be better than my 360.
Overall I prefer my PS3, just not its online play (because I find my 360s better), though it is more than acceptable and free. (I'd just rather pay some money and have a better online system like the 360s, that's all).

Omg I don't want them to just rip off PS Homes or whatever it's called. I can't decide if I like the Homes or not. When I first went on it, I thought it looked sooo cool and I loved playing pool and stuff and everyone had Watchmen costumes :P, but it is a bit of a novelty because I went on it twice and never went back. To be fair it is a bit of a gimmick to try and make the PSN look better than XBL.
Anyway, I don't like the way XBL has sort of copied Miis (from the Wii) nor do I want it to copy Homes. We don't need some stupid world to walk round in, we want to play games. The 360 has focused on gaming so far, and I think it should continue to do so. If it tries to be what the PS3 is, it will become second best.
And Wolves, that's exactly it. It sounds pedantic to point out little faults here and there, but they all build up and the fact we're talking about a £300 piece of machinery, it does all add up and becomes a big deal and quite frankly, the 360 has less of these little things.

Exactly, and it's not even that bad for me because I have the Messenger thing switched off completely so it doesn't sign-in to that.
Also on XBL, you can press the Xbox button as soon as you receive a message/friend request etc to jump straight to it rather than scrolling through various menus. Hate the way the message box is laid out on the PS3 too.

I'm anticipating IE9, possibly with the release of Win 7 SP1, and IE9 will also be bundled with Vista SP3.
USB 3.0 will make its way onto average systems.
A multitude of Blackberrys will be launched.
Flash still won't happen officially on iPhones, but someone will probably find an unstable hack on a jailbroken one.
16Gb/32Gb will be the norm size for USB drives.
Major security hole will be found in Windows 7 somewhere, Microsoft releases patch a few days after, says it wouldn't have happened if users had MSE installed.

MySpace will finally become obsolete.
Apple will revolutionize (...supposedly) something or other.
One line of Mac's will be phased out (probably the Mini's)
Windows 7 will go wrong.
There will be a new iPhone, but I think it'll suck.
A company not called Apple will eventually make a phone better than the iPhone. This belief will be universally accepted.
USB 3.0 will make its way onto average systems.
Most likely not, I read somewhere (I think Engadget/Gizmodo) that manufactures will begin to design and produce USB 3.0 devices, but it won't be be implemented in systems until 2011. Or later.

Just to go through the tablet predictions from the first 120 posts (if there were any after that feel free to quote yourself and brag about how right you were!)
Myspace will be closed down or bought by an obscure company and will be never be heard from again Apple will release a tablet computer which will fail on its arse We will see a glimpse of one of the next generations of games console Windows mobile will take a massive market share hit and will be released on very few new phones by december Opera desktop browser will increase it's market share Half life 2 episode 3 won't come out
Apple definately released a tablet computer and it hasn't been universally accepted as awesome so I'll have half a point atm, we'll see if that comes true.
Apple's tablet will be surprisingly popular, forcing other manufacturers to begin making them (Dell tablet anyone?)
Half points, other manufacturers making them in response happened before apple even announced it :P Again, popularness is yet to be seen.
Apple will release a tablet PC that will fail due to a terribly huge pricetag
It was definately released but the price tag isn't mental so yeah.
Spot on except the name!
Apple tablet will be very expensive
Windows 8 won't be announced as 7 is really good (imo)
Its subjective but imo the prices aren't as high as some expected them to be so we'll call that one a fail :)

Microsoft will go back on it's word and at the end of the year release Halo 4 (:P)
A new type of internet site like Facebook will take off
Facebook won't start charging users for money
Habboxforum will have a server upgrade
Msn will get sold from Windows to some other company (H)
hehe

Sorry but there's no way you can make predictions of the forthcoming year seeing as we're a month into it, there's already been CES, Apple have done a keynote and many companies have announced their intentions over the year :P

But companies like Apple don't announce what it is going to do throughout the year. Although we can pretty much guess that there will be a new iPhone in June/July time. :P

Adding to that, alot of companies add unique things to their products throughout the year and build up to release. So the HP tablet for example, may feature something different, or a worker at Microsoft may create something that blows the minds of the bosses at MS and something new comes out on the Windows 7 tablet OS. CES is just a general outlook, really :)

A quarter of the way through now and I have some spare time on my hands, I'll go through some predictions in the first 40 posts and see where we are with them :)
Myspace will be closed down or bought by an obscure company and will be never be heard from again Apple will release a tablet computer which will fail on its arse We will see a glimpse of one of the next generations of games console Rumours of the nintendo 3DS surfaced yesterday, Natal & Playstation move too Windows mobile will take a massive market share hit and will be released on very few new phones by december - Considering it's being phased out I'll take a win on that one already :D Opera desktop browser will increase it's market share - Has already happened according to the last NPR report Half life 2 episode 3 won't come out
Almost every PC will come with a touch screen
Android and webOS will start to become key mobile OSs, and by the end of year will be starting to catch up with the iPhone. Android certainly catching up and is likely to overtake iphone, safe one!
Looking likely, they've dropped the price of the 3GS to clear inventory
The Rickroll will be effectively dead, and will have been replaced with some other mistake (probably Kanye West at the VMAs) Like it :D
Freeview HD.
One 3D channel on Sky, probably on its own little extortionately priced package
There will be a mobile phone readily available for £5. Already is
2Tb will be the norm for HDD storage.
Some safe ones there :)
Google Voice takes over Skype in the US, and possibly the UK depending on whether it's released over here
Apple's tablet will be surprisingly popular, forcing other manufacturers to begin making them (Dell tablet anyone?) hasn't been released yet but i think that's looking good
Netbooks sales will drop as laptop prices lower and smartphones become more capable Going opposite way from what I can see!
Android over takes iPhone marketshare Likely!
Once again, no significant changes will be made to the iPhone or iPod Touch. Presumably just some minor OS changes and Disk Space increased
Windows Mobile 7 develops considerably interest towards the end of the year Already fulfilled, its the thing atm
Google Wave will do very well and improve a lot Utter fail by the looks of it!
Apple will release it's own line of touchscreen computers. They will charge about £3,000 for this.
iPhone contracts will stay the same.
A new generation of iPhone's will be released Likely with clearing of stock
Many computers will come with 2TB storage
i7 Processors will much more common in Dell computers
Intel Quad-Core will be the norm in new computers
Alienware will release a new touchscreen gaming PC
More online storage Erm... I think? Idk :P
Habbox will have 200 more members offering crap hosting
Google Wave will finish BETA stage
Sky will offer 3D channels
Sky+3D will be released, offering HD and 3D channels
Googles new computer OS will be a hit, but not many computer companys will install the OS onto there computers
All new touchscreen phones will have an APP store I'll give you that, all smartphones certainly do and a fair few dumbphones have at least a way of getting apps onto them
OLED will become a more popular buy. Yeps
Plasma Screen TV's will be the norm in many houses
Apple WON'T start charging there prices in the UK
Sony Vaio laptops WON'T become boring
My little input :)
Some far out ones on there I think!
Myspace get's sold and the owners cash in on what used to be a good site.
Blackberrys will rule.
Xboxs drop more in price. Yep that's happened
Gears 3 will be fail if it comes out.
Twitter will gradually become less popular.
I'll also +rep for playing.
GPRS will come built into most phones Do you mean GPS? GPRS is in all phones afaik
mybb will become bigger than VBulletin
A massive error will be found in windows 7
Laptops will become illegal due to it leaving 3rd degree burns
Google will take over facebook
Twitter will fail
I think this thread is a good idea soo +rep
There will be a wireless charger for laptops/ power for pc's The powermat was out last year so that's cheating a bit ;)
There will be a new version of bluetooth on phones to make faster transfers
Apple will allow people to drag and drop files onto ipods without having to use itunes HA fat chance (A)
Bill Gates will die suddenly
Sony Ericsson will get sued for having such unreliable phones
XBox will have a portable version
A new high-end gaming console will be released
Largest LCD screen will come out (Most likely)
Apples products will get much more expensive
A new Apple TV
No hits there atm
Google Chrome OS will flop big time, consumers don't want private data stored on servers, current 3G network providers don't have the capacity and there will be no applications for it.
YouTube will actually begin dishing out 'proper' 1080p video services Idk how you define proper but they definately have 1080p now!
OnLive on demand gaming services will flop due to latency problems and download limits BETA testing is indicating this won't be true :)
Gran Turismo 5 will FINALLY come out.. maybe?
Android will begin to take sizable chunks out of iPhoneOS' user base You can have that
Apple will release a tablet PC that will fail due to a terribly huge pricetag Half right
Android Eclair 2.0 or 2.1 will come out for the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) I think it is now
Twitter will expand it's current services, in some ways users will love, in others, users will hate
MySpace will take it's final blow and get off the social networking scene
Sky will start charging for news, lose huge user base
Core i9 will flop due to it's oldest and older brothers, i7 and i5
The UK government will start making the UK's internet services worse in some shape or form Digital economy bill, spot on
The Mini-USB phone charging standard will finally come into play If you mean micro USB then yeah that's around loads now
Office 2010 is released, absolutely pwning iWork, OO.O, or any other office system
SSDs will drop in price significantly
Spotify will become ever more filled with adverts I'm getting 2 at a time pretty regularly so yeah
Apple will lose against Nokia in their law suits Is that still going on?
4G phone networks still wont start rolling out in the UK, let alone a proper 3G network infrastructure, O2 go begging other carriers for network help when the iPhone finally kills them iPhone part of that looking unlikely as its on so many networks now
Touchscreen computing will fail horribly
The BBC news website will still be terrible for Technology related news
Engadget will still bum out Apple to a rediculous extent Yep :D
Project Natal will be delayed Still on track as of now
Broadband will be just as slow for rural areas like where I live
Just about all I can think of right now.
As I've said above, looking likely with inventory clearing
Microsoft to lose further market share, Internet Explorer market share to drop under 60% Is it under 605 now? It's bloody close if it isn't
Linux to make a possible foothold in the Netbook line, as well as rumours of Google Chrome OS
Google Phone January 5th Google phone came out, not sure if it was Jan 5th though
Google to further monopolize the technology market. Google ISP anyone?
Google and Apple to possibly invoke huge problems. Google provoking problems with china, apple with their over-reaching patents
Spookily spot on
24" Monitors to become a basic standard.
Windows 8 to be announced already.
Possibly a new iteration of Mac OS to be announced, likely with the name 'Lion' or 'Cougar'.
Google to announce world domination. Yep
http://tekcube.net/internet/firefox-4-delayed-late-2010early-2011/
fairly unlikely
- Apple will fail miserably by continuing to be ignorant to consumer demands and prices
- Microsoft will withdraw from it's mobile operating system devision and wont be a contestant until they've built a lightweight version of the full on Windows Looking very unlikely due to WP7
- Google will buy out hardware manufactures to produce their own mobile devices They get HTC to do it so close enough
- Palm will fold Looking likely unfortunately
- Nokia and Motorola will merge
-internet will become a right in america and cellular service in north america will become more reasonable and affordable for the consumer
- we will eventually have small mobile devices with always on data, and we will be able to connect them to external displays and devices just by going near them.
- intel processors will get stupid small
If you want to disagree with what I've said feel free, you can also go back and evaluate your own predictions and post the results :) I haven't commented on predictions where there's no indication if they're going to be right or wrong yet.
Thanks for playing!

# Apple will lose against Nokia in their law suits Is that still going on?
Posted on the site on 12th March:
A little over a week since a federal judge with the U.S. District Court in Delaware put patent lawsuits between Apple and Nokia on hold, Nokia has asked the judge to toss the case.
According to Business Week, Nokia said that Apple only filed its lawsuit against Nokia to "divert attention away from free-riding off of Nokia's intellectual property."
Nokia originally accused Apple of infringing on ten of its patents involving GSM, UMTS (3G), and WiFi connectivity. Apple countersued, and on February 22nd, the International Trade Commission (ITC) began its investigation into Apple's complaint.
Despite allegations that Nokia has asked a judge to throw out the case, Reuters is reporting that Nokia and Apple are requesting a U.S. court hearing in 2012.

Rumoured and confirmed are completely different things, There were rumours that there would be both a TFT and OLED version, front facing camera, 7-12 inch screen, basically everyone was guessing. The iPad name was never even thrown about, at least not widely.

Indeed, but rumours play a significant part on confirmation :) The trademarking of iPad spread rumours, suggesting Apple may release a pad like device. When the confirmation came about, it wasn't as surprising as it could of been if trademarks were kept secret. When the iPhone was announced, it was looked upon as a God send because no-one really knew what it would be like - just an Apple phone was the main view. Knowing that Apple had trademarked iPad (suggesting a possible pad/tablet-PC) softened the blow when they finally confirmed it. The rest, like what it would look like and how it would look spec wise, is down to pure speculation and opinion.
