i dont even know if america is in europe or not. im guessing its not. If not, then why did immigrants in the early 20th century flock to america?

Seriously, why are you doing an assignment on something you don't even know about? haven't you learned about Europe and America? their positions in the world? They are in two totally different continents.

No, America is not in the EU.

Im doing an essay on why people believe the angel of the north is an amalgamation of the statue of liberty and the tyne bridge. Although we havent learnt about america (because we do art history) it plays a pretty big role in the essay. Now does anyone know why people flocked to america during the early 20th century?

What opportunities did america have that other countries didnt?

@exploited. I thought that if america was part of the EU then that may be the reason why immigrants flocked over. Just like when the UK joined.

i done scottish emigration in history, a few reasons were:
to escape the class system existing at the time
to escape poverty
the clearances forced alot of people to leave
the potato famine
better quality of life

dunno if this helps

naw america hasnt had anything to do with europe since 1776, when we broke from england. even when the u.s. was a british colony i dont think anyone considered it part of europe

america was incredibly prosperous at the beginning of the 20th century, as opposed to many parts of europe which were suffering economically or socially. the potato famine in ireland is a good example of why people moved to the u.s. america held the idea that anyone could go from dirt poor to wealth with hard work, which at the time was pretty significant.

People flocked to America in the early 20th century in search of new opportunities, these opportunities were mainly religious.

not really. people originally went to america for religious freedom, but that was the 16th and 17th centuries, not the 20th. the 20th was more about economic opportunities.

The EU is barely 20 years old. People were chasing 'The American Dream' over a century ago.

Eight.

I've seen more absurdly believed things before.

Lots of Canadians will even throw a joke about us living in igloos. But there are seriously some Americans who actually believe we do live in igloos and all talk like loggers. Silly silly uneducated people!
