Hi there,

Calling all DJs and website owners!

What DJ panel do you use, and why - what features are the bits that make you want to use it?

Also, are there any features you wish it had?

Thanks,
Jake.

I don't use it personally, but the popular one these days seems to be radiPanel. It's got different usergroup categories, easily editable, etc. radiPanel is more of a staff panel than just a DJ panel.

This sounds to me that he wants OUR ideas for HIS panel lol :)

I want a section that can fetch radio password and show it guests! :) lol oj :) radipanel is just fine :) just needs a theme system

Indeed, and anybody who remembers me from about 2 years ago will know that I regularly used to release scripts I wrote for free.

That's what I am planning to do again!

Indeed he does, but at least he's tailoring it to our needs and not just creating it without any primary research ;)

Nice. Make it original, I like to use things that're original than variations of something that gets released every few weeks!

I would recommend creating your permissions using a bitfield system (like vBulletin), I find these more efficient when checking if a permission is true!

I used to use RadiPanel. It's not a bad panel :P You have a section for news and also events. You get management sections, you can customize what users see in the bars. It's quite a god panel.

Awesome advice, thanks for that! I just checked into bitfields (I'd heard of them and tried to work them out before but failed) and they are fantastically easy to do! I will be using them for the panel!

We use a highly edited version of RadiPanel :)

I love bitfields. If you need an overview of them let me know, though they are pretty easy. It uses binary to check if the permission is true and uses 2^x to make sure each permission has a unique value.
I prefer this method because the only thing you need to actually store is the permission value (total of all permissions) and all permissions work fine!

If it's just a DJ panel, make sure it only contains DJ stuff ~ staff panels should contain different categories for different staff teams (events, djs, media, etc).

To me I'd love a DJ Panel that is the following

Easy to customise - e.g. choose layouts, designs etc without having to know how to code, edit etc - Would be handy to have some Non Habbo designs - some DJ Panels are based on Habbo - would be handy for something that would allow non Habbo stations to use them.
Presenter logs - I'd really like an advanced log system that can log who goes on air - In other words I can see that at 6.30 am the "Breakfast Show" connected and Disconnected at 10am - this would allow me to easily see who is doing their shows and who isn't.
A decent booking off system - e.g. presenter can't do a show - fills in info - other presenter puts down they can cover for them - I know a lot of habbo based stations have people booking slots each week but most non habbo online radio stations use a fixed schedule with the same people each week - a lot easier to manage and handy for listeners to remember.
Some come with it - but a kicker to log and kick the source aka if you have an auto system running is handy - it can be done without having to give the password.

Thanks for the offer, I think I've got the hang of it :)

I think I will just start with a DJ panel for the moment, then create modules later on that people can download and just add to it to make it a staff panel, but one thing at once :P

Brilliant suggestions, I was planning presenter logs and song logs (so you can see what songs have been played) and also a kick source button for admins. +REP

I do think a theme/templating system would make it up there with radiPanel and many others. The question you have to ask yourself is:

"What makes users want to use my panel over anyone else's? What does it have to offer that others can't?"

Add a plugin system to make it easily customisable.

Which MySQL driver are you using? I would recommend MySQLi because of prepared statements and OOP... and anyone who doesn't have the MySQLi driver should really update ;)

If someo could help me set up a logging system of some kind to work out who goes on air and who doesn't it would help me so much. I'm using RadiPanel but it doesn't offer it.

If you want some panel feature ideas, here are some of ours =]

- More advanced user list (Some staff may have more than one job)
- Infraction System with auto infract
- DJ Profile Pictures
- Report a DJ
- Ranks (Most listeners & most shows)
- Shoutbox
- Leave feature
- Rules (Edited via Admin)
- Announcement
- Staff List Manager (Can add manually or fetch from a group)
- Timezones for timetable
- DJ of the week
- Logs (Login, Action, Slow bookings)
- Manage Job Applications (Add fields etc..)
- Alert
- Add donator to donator page

That's about it I think

I like these but remember it's only a DJ panel, not a staff panel. This'd suggest it's used by DJs only (which is why I'm thinking about omitting Donator from that list).

I was thinking last night of adding some kind of ranking system... the peak listener amount a user gains (perhaps on a graph that logs the peak listener per show). Also logs on how many shows a DJ has done per week, etc.

Glad you liked my ideas - I've a few more.

I like your song log one - how about something that can detect multiple plays e.g. can see that one was played by more and can automatically create a chart - maybe even some code - that way you could read the chart out on air - have your own website chart but also use the code to put it on your site, form etc. I don't think its possible but could there be a way of doing something similar email wise - e.g. something that could work out how many times songs where requested.

A new ideas I've thought of is a VIP like account - If you could intergrate stuff into the panel - as well as logging graphs and stuff, you could then have VIP accounts - if your selling advertisement space these could be used by those on the deal - some advertisers might want to know regulary how well your doing and this way they could have acess to the information regulary.

Nice ideas.

I was also thinking about graphs also. You should do listener peak graphs.
Something else is something that's never been done before as far as I know. If you provide some analysis of songs on air, it can give DJs an insight into what songs are most popularly requested.
Also, on the request form you'll no doubt have a Request option. With this request option, make it simple.

-Name
-Artist
-Song

With this, you can smarten out the request form and you can prevent duplicate songs from showing. For example, instead of having:
User #1 - Justin Bieber - Somethingsomething
User #2 - Justin Bieber - Somethingsomething
User #3 - Justin Bieber - Somethingsomething

You can have:
(3) User #1 - Justin Bieber - Somethingsomething

Where the (3) denotes how many times the song has been requested.

What about something for reciving info from a song - for example sometimes when they play songs on radio they try and give out information about it - and maybe news - so something that could maybe grab information could be handy but maybe google would be easier.

I've some other ideas though.

(1) A news feed - that could use sites, maybe rss feeds to get news - so lets say the presenter does a news section on there show they can get all the top feeds all in one place.
(2) I know a site that had a service, can't remember its name - but could be used for generating fake requests with names and maybe even shoutouts - means if no requests are coming through, or you have technical problems, you can make it sound like people are still sending stuff in - sometimes users can tell if your trying to make stuff up.
(3) Also for my station in the future i plan to get like as text like service - if there was away to intergrate that service into a dj panel it would be handy - but possibly hard.

Well--I'm (obviously) not using one at the moment, but I did/would use my own!
