Going on holiday in 4 days and my mum has chosen to fly with Easy Jet with it being a short flight (Athens) but I always thought of Easy Jet as being a budget airline.. Is it going to be really cramped and no tv's in the back of the seat in front of you? Then really crappy meals (if any with it being a short flight) and poor service? Not really too happy as flying is one of my favourite parts of going on holiday. :S

I used to talk down on EasyJet (joked about having to pedal to get it off the ground!) but it's not actually that bad.
I doubt they'll have the TVs in the back of the chairs with it being a relatively short flight and the food may not be up to scratch, but I've heard the service is surprisingly good.
Problem with EasyJet, in my opinion, is the mad rush to get some seats when you first board. You're not allocated seats so it's just like a bus trying to get seats. If they started giving people seats at check-in, it would be up there with the moderate airlines :)

Are you having a laugh? You have to all race in there for the best seats? :l

I believe it's still like that, yes. Obviously there's enough seats for everyone but if you're one of the last familes to board you might be split up, etc.

@TT, yes I have once, it was a **** experience and will only go Virgin, AA or at a push BA.
I believe there is still the rush, unlike most 'better' airlines where you can either pay or just ask for the upgrade to more legroom (door) if you are a well built male -- to help people out in emergencies.

Oh what rubbish! There's many airlines out there, you just can't travel with 3 for the rest of your life. One bad experience can't put you off a whole spectrum of companies.
Problem with the bulk-head and the emergency exit seats is that you need to be old enough to sit there (I think it's 18+?) - they don't allow children / young teens to sit there as they "can't operate the door properly in an emergency"

Wish I'd of never asked now. We have to set off at 3am so I was hoping to get some sleep on the plain but if it's crap then I won't really feel like sleeping.
Edit: This doesn't look too bad.

We were stuck in Amsterdam (there's worse places, I know) because of the bomb scare a few years back, and we were basically left to figure things out for ourselves for 5 days before we could fly again. I suppose you get what you pay for- there probably will be a TV hanging above a seat somewhere to listen to through earphones, and the meal will definitely be a little... bad, I'm afraid.
Forget about the flight, take a magazine (I buy Official Nintendo Magazine every time I fly, it's a special relationship between us) and enjoy Greece :D

I've been with them alot, but for domestic flights only. Still, can't be disappointed with their fares or staff service.

It might have flip down tvs ever like 6 rows or something

On shorter flights they either have TVs that pull down from the ceiling in the aisle or little flip down ones above the seats every 6 rows or so, I haven't seen a short flight like that where the seats have them in the back.
I didn't even think budget airlines served meals, but I can't really input on that one.
EasyJet will be fine once you're sat down, seriously lol

You might get them coming around though, trying to flog stuff to you like headphones etc. I traveled on a MyTravel Airline inbound flight a couple of years ago (its merged with Thomas Cook now) and thats basically like EasyJet. It had a tv nearly every eight rows - they showed a movie, then played their own advertisements and something about cramp in confined areas (showing exercises). The outbound flight was much better, as that was using a Thomas Cook aircraft. Much more comfortable - and the televisions were nearly every four rows or so. It won't be to bad, and the toilets on board were pretty good. You won't have much on there though, as I presume its not going to be a double decker airbus or something. They don't generally have meals - as its only short (inside Europe)
It'll still be a good flight though just take your own entertainment and enjoy the flight.

They're okay planes. Just make sure you get there early and aren't one of those annoying families who come late and complain that other people beat you to it.
When I went to Slovenia with EasyJet you got small meals like pizza (which are quite good, they have flavour at least :P) but I don't remember anything like TV, but on a short flight you could just bring your own entertainment like a DS, PSP, magazine or MP3 player, or sleep :P

I should of put this in my post. But how are the seats on EasyJet? I know the MyTravel ones, were uncomfortable when we reached around the half-way point of the flight. The Thomas Cook ones were really comfy though.

Well they're nothing to shout about but it's only a short flight so it really shouldn't be a problem for him. It's a low-cost airline so you get what you pay for I suppose.
Best thing now is to just stop worrying about the flight and just do it. You're flying with EasyJet whether you like it or not, so just enjoy it! :)

You can travel with just 3, I travel with just 1 airline and I have done for 17 years

I used EasyJet 2 months ago and its fine. Good seats. Its a budget air line so there will be no TV on every seat and no meal.

There's nothing wrong with them. If you're under 16 you'll get to the front of the queue, but if you're going on a bus from the airport to the plane it's pointless as everyone runs off it to the plane. I've flown with them twice and never had a problem with anything or getting a seat with the person I'm with. But I'm flying with BA soon, I'll see if I notice a difference. :L

im flying with easyjet at start of September and tbh I don't care how the service is on the plane, aslong as I get a window seat and it gets you there and back then I'm happy

Thanks for the replies. I have it all sorted, gonna buy a portable battery charger for my iPhone and download a few films onto it for the plane. I'm guessing they will come down the aisle selling (hot) drinks/snacks because even though it is a budget airline they are still going to make more money from selling things so I don't see why not. If I find out they don't sell any beverages then I guess I will just have to buy a load of crap to snack out on while on the plane.

There not bad at all, we fly with them most of the time because we got a house in spain. So its just easy and cheap, there leg room is about average. They got no Tv's but surely you can make your own fun.

just think a budget airline is like a coach and you'll be fine. get a few snacks from WHSmith in the waiting lounge and youre set. AND GET TO THE GATE EARLY, VERY VERY EARLY, so you are at the front of the queue. And if you got to go on a bus to the aeroplane, STAND next to the doors so it's easiest for you to get on the plane, pick your seat and just relax whilst everyone stresses. :)

To be honest it sounds like you're stuck up. I've never been on a plane with TV's in the back of the seat infront of me, and I've been on around 30 flights. Non long haul though, and I believe that's where they are.
Easyjet is a budget airline for a reason. You'll be lucky to get TV's at all.
What do you mean "the best seats" anyway? A seat is a seat.

I don't think he's stuck up, just curious about what to expect. I admit, when we see EasyJet we also think cheap, crap airlines but it really isn't so bad. Yes, TVs are on long haul flights.
The "best seats" could refer to seats at the front of the cabin (more legroom) or at the back (where you can recline your chair further). Some in the middle also have more legroom for window exits. You have to select your own seats while there, so you need to make sure you're sat with your family, hence best seats :)

I couldn't disagree more, I am not being stuck up at all. When travelling long distances I like to be comfortable and entertained, besides for me the holiday starts when I get on the plane because I love flying. A TV in the back of the chair is great, it makes the time fly (lol :l) as well as keeping you entertained, a good amount of leg room and a nice comfy seat to go with that is great and not really a lot to ask for.
So anyway I have returned from holiday and we will not be flying with EasyJet again. On the way home we paid for speedy boarding so we could get on the flight first and choose seats together. Some idiots that had arrived at the gate late got on the plane and wanted 2 seats next to each over. They could of chosen around 4 or 5 other groups of people to split up but they chose us (me and my family) which meant that my dad had to sit on his own with 2 strangers. When the couple asked the air stewardess to make us move my dad said could they not choose some other people as we had paid extra so we could choose these seats but the fat ***** didn't want to know. I was so bored just sat there, got fed up of listening to music after an hour and had read my top gear magazine within 20 mins so was just sat there cramped with my legs diagonally (I'm tall) for the whole flight. The seats were not too bad but certainly not as comfy as the better airlines, also there was a guy behind me that was also very cramped so had to have his knees pushed into the back of my chair, every so often he'd attempt to stretch his legs which was almost as annoying as having a child sat behind you kicking the chair but I can't complain as the person in front of me would of been in the same position

I've flown with Easyjet loads of times as I go to Spain quite a lot and have never really found it to cramped. The only trouble my family had is you don't get to book your seats meaning you pick where you sit when you get on the plane.. We got around this once by paying extra for 'speedy boarding' meaning we were first to board.
This sounded great to begin with but only resulted in further stress when my mum nearly had a row with a chavy family because they wanted to get on first with their ten kids and didn't think there was any difference between priority and speedy boarding lol...

yeah this sounds like the same sort of issues we had with speedy boarding.. which is why the following year we made sure we flew with Monarch as they book your seats at check in so there are no arguements.
I wouldn't really say wanting a tv is stuck up on Virgin Atlantic I've been lucky enough to travel in all 3 cabins on different journeys and can confirm it doesn't matter what class your in economy, priemum economy or Business class you get a telly.

Traveled with easyJet. No point going on it if you going with family or large group of people. I do recommended it for couples due to it being really cheap and a lot easier due to only two seats are needed next to eachever.

Cannot believe the moaning here.
Easyjet is a budget airline, you get to buy food if you wanted. I never realised so much fuss could be made getting on an aeroplane..
If you want a relaxed time before you get on to the flight use the servisair/executive lounge.
