How many years of use do you usually get out of your computers/laptops before buying new ones?

I usually have mine for about 3 or 4 years before they get to the point that they need replacing. I never really have to replace mine because they get outdated, mine tend to die from either the dust in my house (very old house) or because I haven't looked after them well cosmetically and eventually internally after all the drops and bangs. I have started to be much more careful with my computer now though.

we had our main pc for like.. 2002 to 2009 so 7 years and then it got so bad we got a new one in 2009 and still have that one
got a laptop in 2005, got a new one in 2009.
now i have a pc i recently bought but not because the laptop broke completely, its just really slow so i wanted something better

so it varies really

Usually less than a year.

However, my iMac I got in 2008 and still have it now and use it as my main machine. It works just as fast and well as it did the day I bought it and I don't plan on replacing it any time soon :P

when ever I get money that I can waste or when my laptop breaks.

Never. I perpetually upgrade it whenever it gets to slow to play the latest games.

Whenever mine doesn't do what I need it to do quickly. Any other reason for replacing it (unless it doesn't work) is a complete waste of money.

Whenever something comes out that is worth while upgrading to. I managed to go from 2007 - 2010 on my old 8800GT, decided I wanted to upgrade, got a 5850.

Same thing for my processors, my Q6600 has had a good run in the past 3 years but now I want to go to the new Sandybridge i7s when they come out, which will also be good timing so that I won't have to upgrade whilst I'm at Uni in a year's time.

I usually have my laptops for a long time before replacing them but this one is only a year old because I got it last year when I began college.

I don't necessarily feel the need to "change" my pc lol, I'm more of an "upgrade" person :)

If you have a PC its cheaper to replace broken parts, laptop, abit harder :)

I had a PC for 2 years, replaced that as EVERYTHING burnt out, got a new one, still got that but got a laptop to be more portable :) which is a year old :)

well this is the only one ive owned, which i think is 3 or 4 years old (cant remember when i got it)
my "house" computer (to an extent) last got replace in 2005 and thats getting upgraded this year. So every 5 years for the main house one (as we got one before in 2000/2001)

wow im surprised at how short people have their computers lol.

ive had my mac for almost 2 years exactly, its still pretty much brand new other than a kinda infuriating headphone jack glitch that will occasionally think there are headphones plugged in when in fact there arent, so the speakers wont play D: apparently this is common among macbooks though, i have a bunch of friends with the same problem, luckily it doesnt effect anything past that though. i take really good care of my computer, i dont load anything on it i dont need and i clean out files regularly. ill give it at least another 2 or 3 years before i need a new one.

I don't really replace it as a whole, i replace different parts in stages

The problem with Macs are when you buy them they are already a year, if not two, out of date. ;) Core2Duos which Apple are still using are ancient now.

Around every 2/3 years or basically when my laptop/computer messes up!

Run em till they die. Our old desktop lasted 4 years, we got a new one, repaired the old one, and I had it (gee, thanks, Socket A Sempron at 1.66ghz).

Laptops typically last about 3 years before I end up frying the motherboards.
I have no idea how long my homebuilt rig will last. 4 months and counting so far.

Varies, it's a waste of money to religiously change a computer for no reason. Upgrades deal with problems like speed and reliability, while buying a new PC is buying a really expensive case with crap inside it :P Crap which you already have :P I seem to buy a new PC whenever the CPU is old and slow, or when lots of things need changing and it's too much effort to buy new parts.
