I think that some are and some aren't. I've never owned an apple computer of any kind so I can't comment on those but I do believe that iPods are fantastic and aren't overrated at all, you get what you pay for. However from what I've heard and seen the iPhone seems to be overrated. Once again I don't have any experience with AppleTV so I can't comment. What do you think?

It depends on what you are looking for from a gadget. If you are looking for a straightforward MP3 player then of course iPods are overrated however if you are looking for a fashion accessory then perhaps not. If you are looking for a gaming desktop then a Mac may be overrated but if you want it for creative means then perhaps not. If you are looking for a device that gets viruses then an iPhone may be overrated but if you want a phone that does everything effortlessly then perhaps not (Sorry I just couldn't help myself).
You cannot blindly say if something is overrated or not because it all depends on what you want from a device and your personal circumstances (ie finances).

I dont think their products are overrated. I switched from a PC to a Mac last christmas and oh my god, life seems just easier with it, less confusing then a PC. my Mac just works great and copes great for my needs. I love the design of it.
iPods they revolutionised MP3 players and made music more portable and practical ( rumours of a new one from the september event) .
With my iPhone 3G i love its simplicity and how it's so easy to use. I doubt i could ever change to another phone after using my iPhone as i just love the way with the operating system. Getting iPhone 4 Christmas.
iPad, people do say its a oversized iPod touch. But it's a lot more powerful and a better memory, and great for watching movies. I'm getting my 32GB iPad on 8 of september and i'm going to mexico on the 28th so that will see how useful it is for me, like sending my course work over email.
Apple TV, I don't think that picked up as well as their other products at first It wasn't really advertised much in the public image like you see adverts for iPods , iPhones all the time. But with Apple rumoured to be realising a very much updated version in the September Apple event maybe it will change some things.
Over all, I don't think Apple products are overrated I think their worth the money they retail for most of their products look very greatly designed. Their simple to use!

Everything but their iPods are stupidly expensive.
Apple refurb store FTW
@ Above, I don't know what you're talking about iPad memory for, it's utter crap to put it bluntly. If you mean storage space, then it's just the same as an iPod Touch so your point is moot.
The problem is, naturally, humans are going to try and justify why they needlessly spent so much money after purchase.
Overpriced yes, rated no.

They're just overpriced. Especially the iPhone imo.

Personally I think the computers and iPads are. For the price of some of their computers you can build a new one with the same if not better spec.
As for the iPads, I have more or less an iPad; my iPod touch (or iPad mini, as I like to call it. :P). There isn't many things you can do on an iPad that you can't do on an iPod touch but for some reason, I still really want an iPad. Ask me why and I'll reply ''I don't know.'' It's just after playing with one in the Apple shop, I really want one! xD
Most people that own an iPod touch that want an iPad when asked ''why do you want an iPad'' will probably respond with ''They're cool'' or ''I think they're great for what they can do'' or maybe even the same as my response. :P Either way, personally I think everything but the iPods are overpriced. But that's just me. :]
Personally, if I was to pay £400 for a tablet, I'd get this: http://www.archos.com/products/nb/archos_9/index.html?country=gb&lang=en

No I think they are reasonably priced for the revolutionary and truly magical products you receive in exchange.

That made me smile :P
In Europe their prices are outright appalling and rediculously expensive. If I was a European I would not own an Apple product simply because I wouldn't be able to afford an Apple product. In its North America counterparts their prices still are ample, although it's nowhere near as bad and for what it's worth their build quality is pretty slick anyway.

Following onto Davids Comment, When I was on the online apple store looking for an itouch the difference in price between the american price and english was huge. Infact it worked out cheaper for me to go to argos :D But all things considered i love my ipod touch and the apps and the ammount of apps you can get are truly unique its not just facebook , or msn its games weather reports everything. So as i use it for more than just music i think the price is worth it :)

As mentioned it depends really on what you want it for.
My opinion is that although most of there stuff is good the iPad is simply overrated - I just don't see the point in it - its would be too big for me to carry around with me - if i was going to carry something around like that I'd rather take a laptop. And at home you've got tvs/monitors etc for watching stuff.
I think there other products are pretty decent if not great, but yes they are quite expensive.

And for anyone who says it depends what you want them for, no, no it does not. They both do the same thing in the same way.

Not really. Macs most certainly aren't overrated or overpriced for a creative and media professional. I currently work for a design studio and everyone there uses Macs because the included software, such as Garageband, is far superior to any Windows equivalent. The best thing you can get on Windows that has the same functions as Garageband is Mixcraft which is incomparable to Garageband in quality, feature set, customisation and sound loops.

May I point out, the iPad cannot do anything a netbook can't, apart from an app store. A netbook can send work by email.
Also if you cannot understand how to use windows then to be quite plain about it - you have no idea how to use a computer in the first place.
You say that their products are over priced, but it's a buisness and they want money, they're not worried about the number of customers, because they get millions, so why would they lower their prices when people still buy their products nevermind the price.

Audio professionals know GarageBand is complete crap (I know it is, I have a MacBook) and wouldn't use it (they'd using something else like Logic Studio or Reason). Also may I point out, Adobe only just made a "proper" Mac port of their products with CS5? All Adobe products before CS5 were actually designed for and ran far better on Windows (arguably they still do).
It's one of those rediculously false statements people make, if anything Macs are worse for media production for people like Audio professionals who need a lot of I/O ports and software availability. Granted the colour and display profiles are much better out of the box on a Mac, but it easily fixed on Windows.

Never said in my original post that a iPad can't do anything a netbook can't.
I perfectly know how to use windows I use it all the time at school So I know how to use a computer. But But to be quite plane about it, I just find using my Mac more enjoyable, faster , easier then a PC.

Audio professionals are above Garageband, sure, but that's not what I said. I said creative and media professionals. These are people with a broad grounding in all areas of the industry with no specific expertise who's job may require differing things on a daily basis. Garageband is PERFECT for them because anyone can use it to make a decent song and no, it's not crap. Many software producers use it in their work because it's quick any easy to use. It obviously doesn't allow a musician complete control but as you yourself just said, Logic does, it's another Mac only product as is Final Cut Pro. On the Adobe issue I could say the exact same thing as you've said about Garageband, a professional Animator wouldn't use something like Flash, they'd use something like Toonboom. The reason the Adobe suite is so good is because it's accessible to everyone. There is a long history of development switching between Mac and PC. For example Macromedia products which make up a significant proportion of the Adobe suite were coded for Mac's before PC's and Adobe has always invested a significant amount of time in developing for Mac's even if they develop for PC's first. What is rubbish on the other hand is Flash Player for Safari, it's the only program that's crashed my Mac since I got it.

That's something we can both agree on, but we just have to live with it until HTML5 is up to the job of doing what Flash does :(

They're over-priced for what you get. If anything, they're over-rated because they're over-priced, because people always try to justify spending money so the price tag would suggest (if anything) a truely magical product, but in reality, it just brings to the table a new way of doing the same thing, as well as design and a label. It's an opinion war, but in reality, they're over-priced. Over-rated is purely down to opinion, and may go hand in hand with the price tag.

Smashy smashy fun times? :P
On a serious note, iMacs are perhaps the superior all-in-one PC. I wouldn't call them a laptop with PC parts, they're too heavy to sit on a lap :/

And the stand isn't necessarily lap friendly :)
I could say there's less clutter with an iMac although this isn't true in my case, as I have two external monitors and a PC sitting underneath. Ah, well. I hope it doesn't break but if it did it would give me an excuse to buy a 27" model. Gotta' see the glass half full :P

To be fair though, an iMac is meant to be reduced clutter seeing as that's what an all-in-one computer is meant to be :P Apple just attempt to sell it as a desktop computer to mock the desktop computer market which obviously has seperate items to make up a system, it's how they advertise the system and many people fall for this ploy (not pointing at you, just something I've noticed in general). It's amazing how many people fall for this, when all-in-one computers and desktop computers are different, yet they forget that the Mac Pro is a true desktop made by Apple themselves :P
They've almost killed the mp3 and PMP market so they can do what the hell they want with their prices and the kiddies will still be asking for an iPod because they're uneducated about alternatives due to the overall lack of knowledge of non-apple versions due to their brand power.
I couldn't imagine Zune still being produced by Microsoft if they didn't have the Zune Pass which is what carries the brand.

Well yes it is misleading because it has a mobile chipset and I think (don't quote me on this one, it's been a while since I upgraded the RAM) 200 pin ram.
