Be truthful I personally would hand it in because it could have been for something important but I think you get the money if it isn't claimed or w.e

No I wouldn't hand it in, no doubt one of the officers would claim it (it's happened in the past).

No I wouldn't. I'd probably lie to myself and say that if someone dropped £1000 and didn't get it back, it's probably pocket money to them. I wouldn't waste it though, I'd pay for uni stuff (no not the alcohol :P)

If I dropped money in the street e.g that much as you said, I wouldn't get it back because no one would hand it in so why should I?

If it's in a wallet or I see someone drop it, I'd hand it in.
If it's £1000 laying there, nothing else too it then ofcourse you're going to take it. Silly not too. Nobody is gunna proove it's theirs etc.

I wouldnt the same police will take it.. they arent so stupid to go on a Microphone and say who is this $1000 they will keep it its not logical how would they even find the guy who owns it :LSomeone would go to the police saying they lost £1000 and then explain where they dropped it and why they were carrying it etc. Then the police would know they dropped it, not exactly rocket science.
I'd probably take it to be fair, no doubt though if I told my parents they'd tell me to hand it in cause they're boring like that.

It's not even something I have to mull over now or would I have to at the time. I'd undoubtedly hand it in. Mainly because it's not worth the hassle of getting caught up in it all (I mean who loses £1000) and secondly because I hate how things revolve around money. It's evil.

I'd just keep it as what are the chances of it being returned to its original owner anyway? I'd probs give £250 of it to a charity to make myself feel better tho, or maybe I wouldn't lol. Can't really be sure what I'd do until it actually happened.

I'm unsure really, usually I would but mmm - suppose i'd find out the procedure to see if I would be handed it back if nobody claimed it.

Or it could be all the spare cash they have and lost it when they were going out to buy a car.
But if someone did happen to lose a bundle of cash (a grand) they were most likely using it for drugs or black market type things.

lmao on what evidence? People carry thousands and thousands of pounds in cash every day for legitimate business reasons, not least of which might be simply to/from the bank. I've personally never seen anyone get out £1000 to buy drugs or for back alley abortions

A grand isn't really a lot of money when you are talking legitimate business reasons. Maybe someone might be carrying it to buy something off their mate but other than that it is most likely for something dodgy. You do realise I am talking about just a bundle of money, not in a wallet or anything? Which suggests that it is just a quick cash trade, no faffing around getting it out of their wallet. I mean look at the police for example, when they stop people and they have loads of cash on them they know that the chances are it is for something dodgy so want to know why they were carrying so much.

no way and i think anybody who says they would is a liar lol
lol well judging by the fact I saw a 20 on the pavement a few years ago by a parking machine, just rolled it up and put it in the machine change bit, so any tramps looking for spare change would find it I'd probably take it to the police, or more likely donate it to charity :)

I've had £500 in my wallet before in £20 notes and it was so thick I had to take it out and just hold it in my hand in my jacket. I would think that anyone with a bundle of notes worth £1000 wouldn't have it doubled over in a wallet. So that doesn't really suggest that anyone who was carrying £1000 out of a wallet and lost it was doing funny business. Obviously it could be but I don't think just because it was out of a wallet would really suggest that.

Have taken £1000 in 50/20/10s to the bank plenty of times for my stepdad's business, it's a decent round number to do if there's not been a huge cash transaction recently. None of these times would it have been possible to put it all in my wallet lol. Police only stop people who they suspect of being up to something anyway so kinda stands to reason that such folk would be shady characters regardless of how they choose to carry their money

Honest to god. If somebody loses money, why feel guilty for keeping it? I doubt people would go check if it's been handed in at all, due to the society we live in today, so the money will probably be worthless. But seriously, if anybody out there finds that amount of money, keep it!

07-09-2010, 10:16 AM
It's different if it's a tenner or twenty though Bobby, sure nobody is going to check but if they lose 1k I don't think many people will let it slip. Even those who are earning millions with successful businesses will probably at least report it missing.

Yeah neither would I, but the most I'd do is retrace my steps LOL. The person who lost the 1k in the first place is an idiot for a) carrying it around with them insecurely and b) not checking regularly that the moneys still there. But once they retrace their steps and it's not there, I doubt they'd take it any further. I wouldn't anyway.
Yes I would because I am a nice person in real life.

Completely agree with this.
I'd only take it if it was just the money on it's own, and I had no idea who dropped it.
Keep it. If it was a wallet, i might hand it in to police, but not give a name and take the money. or at least half.

If it was in a wallet, and I could contact the person who lost it - I reckon I would probably give it back. But really, its a grand - and if its just there, of course you are gonna keep it. Nothing to say the police are gonna do the right thing, they're only human too - and like normal people, greedy.

You can usually tell if it is fake or not. Besides aren't the bank going to get a little suspicious when you go in with a grand and say "is this real?". They might threaten to report you to the police if you do not hand the money in, that's if there is a law saying you have to, idk!

I would. I'd feel so so guilty, I wouldn't be able to live with myself imagining that it could be for something truly important like a persons healthcare or something.
I often lose money and I know how it feels. If it was a small amount I'd pick it up and go 'that's mine' but if it was £1000 - €1000 in my case - I'd hand it in because I just wouldn't feel right spending it!

would take it, always.
i'll take it as a gift from mcdonalds.
It would be unethical to keep the 1000 pounds.
I think i would report any amount I found IF over $50~100.
If you keep the 1000 pounds, and it is used in the transfer of illicit drugs, etc you could be prosecuted.

I disagree with this. When faced with the situation (god knows why you called it a problem!) you are most likely going to think about all the things you could do with it. Then you are probably going to look around to see if anyone is there or watching you. Well that's what I would do anyway, on the way home with it I'd probably be a little paranoid but then at home I would just be surfing the web thinking of all the things I could do with it. 52" 1080p HD tv maybe? Or perhaps some Beats by Dr Dre headphones and a smaller TV? Maybe I would just keep it to go towards insurance + car. It would be great lol.
