Psp. i have both, and ds games are so obsessed with trying to make the touch screen work that they have no fun to them.
psp games are more like console games then the ds, and im tired of the 64 bit era!
fav psp games- twisted metal:head on, lumines, & thug 2 =D

Nintendo, ever since the 'Nintendo' was released, has been 'Kiddie' some games have always been of that and it doesn't intrest alot of gamers or other people as it used too.
That's why DS sales were so bad and Nintendo 64 sales droped so fast. ( i have proof for this so don't say they didn't. :p)

DS Its got way more gaming potential, games that make you laugh and challenge you. Not games focused on graphics.
DS RAWKS!

The DS May seem more kiddie because Nintendo Release exclusive games that are genereally better in game play. I also think you'll find I'm more of a Hard Core Gamer than you will ever be. DS FOR ME. Oh an btw USB :o the horror :O Zelda for little kids? If I was a little Kid it would scare my pants off!

DS, best games, originality, innovative idea of touch screen, excellent. Best games are Wario Ware Touched! and Super Mario 64 DS. Animal Crossing, Mario Kart and Nintendogs are all to come as well as a new Super Mario and Kirby game. DS PWNS PSP!
And by the way, of those voting for PSP, how many of you actually have one? They're weird, strange when you hold them.
i choose DS
i don't like PSP much Sony is alright but psp is boring.
wario ware touched is class and mario kart ds wud rule on ds.

Star, i own one, you say those feel wierd? how are you supposed to hold your ds, press all the buttons, and use the touch screen at the same time?
I hate the ds, old tech, yes, it's from '97 people! stupid games.
They get bad scores in game review mags, psp has their share of bad reviews, but they also have several gr8 ones.
DS is much better!
psp is faulty and plus theirs no point in it since the ps3's coming out and their gonna make another psp based on that 2006 - 2007

But you do have the evil monkey, so i respect your opinion.
Even though the ds is trash. :)

Thanks to whoever gave me bad rep for my views. Much appreciated.
And, the Ds isn't hard to hold. As I right-hander I put my left hand on the side of the directional buttons and use my right to use the stylus....not too hard. But some people have dificulties.

Yes, but you dont need the buttons and the touch screen at the same time, its either button OR touch screen.

The games mags aren't always right. You're probably getting these scores from Games Master, the most Sony biased magazine ever released

Please. If you were a hardcore gamer you wouldn't be bothered about graphics and whether a console was aimed at "little kids" or not.
I can't honestly comment at the moment. I've only played the DS, but come September I'll be able to give my opinion.
Anyone that HAS picked one as being better than the other without extensively playing both consoles should really be ignored.
Depending on DS Games depends if ur using controls or touch screen, i don't know a game with both at same time, but some just use touch
e.g wario ware touched
some just use controls... dont no if any lol
and some you can use ether touch or controls..
PSP Because of USB access and all the awesome features, DS is more for "Little kids" too touchy and Im a hardcore gamer and Im not into "3D-alike-pixelated" and thats what the DS is.
Arn't all games 3D and Pixelated? The graphics have to be made out of something.
And for little kids, if the PSP had a touch screen, would it be a 'kids toy'?
Magnet

Good point Sank. I don't think little kids can handle a touch screen properly. It includes writing your name, reading etc. Especially WarioWare and reading ;)

What makes it for little kids?
You can play games, talk on a chat room use the touch screen to draw pictures.
On a PSP you can play games too.
So playing games makes it for YOUNGER KIDS?

Aherm. After doing some research on the PSP battery life;
When playing graphically intensive games like Ridge Racer, as opposed to simple puzzle games, the PSP's battery life may be considerably shorter than the initial estimates.Maybe as short as 2 hours!!
After playing the PSP extensively (30 mins) in Game, before I was asked to leave, the graphics were good, but it's just a handheld Playstation. Yawn.
My vote is for the DS. Mainly because it is an original idea, come on, 2 screens, one being a touch screen! What a great idea! And it's not awkward to hold. I have one, I took it on holiday. It survived longer than 2 hours!!

I have a PSP and it's battery life is just fine, it goes for longer on some games... I was playing Wipeout on mine and it laster for 5 and a half hours before I needed to recharge.

Got a DS, very disapointed, the idea was good, Mario 64 was great (before I compleated it) wario ware got boring. Not a good line up of games,no reraly good games out for the DS (bar those 2) Goint to sell it to get a PSP, Its got a releace line up that makes the DS's look far infearier. And FM2006 is coming out for it :D

You need to look at the bigger picture and at the games it has lined up for release.

I think he's talking about the reality of the games and such. For instance, Mario Kart VS GranTurismo (sp?) Which is more realistic? :p
Bear-Max
19-08-2005, 12:09 PM
Oh, so he's talking about the realism of graphics. Again, graphics aren't everything. If you haven't got fun gameplay to go with them, what's the point?
Remember... The point of games is to have fun.

Mario and games like that own all of the Playstation games put together.
i dont like things made by nintendo i find them to childish, they seem to have more little kiddies games, and wow a touch screen who cares! nintendo are still on cartridges sony are on UMD, PSP has more mature features which a little kid would find no use for... MP3 player, movie player, etc.. which teenagers will want, people who are 14+ wont want to be playing on a nintendo console were there choice of games vary between Pokemon and Yu-gi-mon, teenagers will want, portable internet, mp3 player, movie player, a wider variety of games, which go past the 16 age limit "/ PSP looks alot better too :D

Bear-Max
19-08-2005, 12:42 PM
I don't really find Nintendo stuff childish at all.
Sure, the PSP has movies, but why would you be watching a movie on the bus? And if you intend to use it at home, why not just watch a movie on a DVD player instead?
I will be getting a PSP, but sometimes I just fail to see the point in it.
The DS is innovative. The touch screen is a nice addition as it's something new. There are endless possibilities for it's use that have obviously been untapped on before, as no other console has been like it.
im not getting either of them atm, i find hand held consoles quite childish anyway "/ im only 13 and i find nintendo childish "/ they bring out a new hand held thing like every 6 months anyway the DS 2 and the DS advanced will be out soon the DS pocket rofl, so childish

Agree totaly, PSP is alot more grown up. Walking into a shop and buying mario at 14 looks kinda geeky.
Looking forward to Burnout,GTA and FM 2006 for it. + Most game develpers dont want their games on a nintendo console (eg. Burnout3 for Gamecube)

I have now played the PSP, and I own a DS, so I can say my view for real.
The PSP looks alot nicer, and feels comfier. It is more stylish and has stylish L & R buttons. But it doesn't mean I like it better.
All I played was Golf on the PSP, so it's rubbish. I didn't see PSP's full potential, but it is better graphics then the DS. But everyone in my Game store were saying "Does the PSP have a touch screen?".
So that means they're used to handhelds now having a touch screen. And the touch screen is alot more fun. I will be getting a PSP, as it is good. but in my opinion the DS is more fun.

If you have EB games card or gameStop card... You get 20% percent off.

If it wasn't for hand-held Nintendo's, Sony would of had no idea to copy, hence no PSP.

So as well as paying £5 more for games, you also have to pay £15 for DVD's to watch only for PSP, on a tiny little screen. Fun.

i have gcube animal crossing is horrible mario cart will always be boring to me cuz double dash ruined it cuz it gets boring and kirby is for kids so yeah mmhmm sorry i enjoy more mature games :$
and nintendogs rofl if u like nintendogs there is seriously sumthing wrong with u its a 50 dollar tamacatchi basically
Say that in English. The mario Kart bit is BS. San Andreas is the worst PS2 GTA game, but has it ruined the franchise? No. Kirby for kids? No.
Obviously you're just someone who'd rather look "cool" than have a good gaming experience. And the Nintendogs bit. WTH?

Sony went for Seriousness with memory sticks touching £200 for 1gb Which can store 3 films/250 songs/500 photos/

Your all MAD!
PSP Owns the Nintendo DS, theres absoloutly no chance that the DS will get any better than the PSP.
The main features on the PSP:
1.Quality graphics
2.UMD DvD's - most movies that come out will be viewable on the PSP
Top Title Games - Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear, Wipeout, Need For Speed, NBA Street etc... the list is endless and theres only like 30 games out already.
3.Wireless Multiplay - Play against friends at your best chosen games, up to 16 multi-play frenzie!
4.MP3's-Store MP3's onto it with up to 2GB of space and it originally comes with a 30MB.
5.Photos-Store photots onto it, soon there will be a attachable camera to link with your PSP.
6.Good Looks-Its too precious to touch-'Don't Touch Me'
Look, thats the low down of some of the main features of the PSP, theres simply no challenge with the DS. I garuntee that sales with the Nintendo DS will drop dramaticallybefore and after Christmas, theres going to be no aftermath.
What has the DS got? Touch Screen WOW!!!!111 amazing, please.

Sorry Remin, but as much as I am a fan of the DS, you're talking utter rubbish.
The PSP is a far more expensive console to produce, in fact, they lose money on each unit sold, and games are £30-£40 because that's where Sony aim to make their money. Not to mention that it costs more to render games to work on more powerful consoles. The PSP is more expensive to make as it's basically a mini computer; it has a larger, LCD screen, and has digital buttons rather than analogue.
PSP games for £59.99? Pfft, I'll believe that when I see it. The "£60 for games" rumour is for next generation consoles, not this generation handhelds.
And Zak, there's no need to be rude... Plenty of people cannot afford such gizmos as PSPs.

I actually have a PSP now and i can say they are much better than DS's, MP3 Player, MP4 Player, Movie Player, game, player, wireless internet!
and what does the DS have a touch screen and it can play games... WOW! (Not)
We also had a massive disscussion about this in school today with our teacher he actually said:
"...Yes nintendo has been around longer, but.. Sony have all the rights to the best games, they also make brilliant consoles, and now, all future movies are going to be coming out on UMD, The DS has nothing going for it except for a touch screen which is probably fun for what, 10 seconds, in my opinion Nintendo is going downhill and the DS in my opinion is a piece of ****..."
And everybody agree'd even the people who have a DS. I think now that they have both come out, we should wait for the sales stats to arrive after christmas to show which was more popular (PSP Obviously) The big disscussion now should be about the XBox 360 and the PS3 but i still would think that the PS3 would be better, becuase they seem to have rushed the xbox, sony are appearing to be the best company for consoles. ;)

Computor shops such as Game sell there PSP games for that price.
I go in my local E-Play, I don't know if you have one around where you live but there good. I get my games for £25-£33, Shops like Game are very commercial, they know that they can sell these games for £40 pounds.
All of the games for the PSP near me are £30 - 34 i dont really think they will go up to £60 ¬_¬ the movies are £14 and albums are £10 - 12 i wont be buying my games from the shops often though because i find them i rip off, im going to be buying games / movies from america via the internet, because the games are £20 and films £10 and they will be out when the films have only just come out in the cinema and the games will come out quite a few months earlier

Im 13 and i find the DS babyish and aimed at like 6 year olds like i said, teenagers dont care for what the DS does i am not impressed one bit by a touch screen and wow a mic who cares. What i would want in a handheld console is what is in the PSP. Can i listen to my favourite mp3's on a DS, no, can i watch the latest released movies on a DS, no, do i have a wider variety of more exciting games which go past the 8+ age limit and better graphics on the DS, simple answer, no, the DS is aimed at little kids in my opininion. :eusa_danc

I havn't experienced any Dead Pixels :s Personally, I don't think the DS has more stuff on it, the amount the PSP can do is pretty unvelievable.
People here only know the basics about it, basics.
Sony havn't revealled other features within it and for it. Try looking in the magazine Nuts or Zoo, they have info about what other features the PSP has which Sony havn't yet released.

Erm... People often get confused between dead pixels and stuck pixels.
Stuck pixels are simply pixels that are fixed on a certain colour, eg. white, red, blue, and can be fixed by stimulating them.
Dead pixels are black and are just as the name suggests: dead. They cannot be fixed unless you replace your screen.
I hate the way PSP fans are criticising the DS as if it's the worst thing ever, and vice versa. Both consoles have their advantages and disadvantages and it's up to you which you prefer. Please try and respect other people's opinions.

I don't think anyone has the right to call people "noobs" just because of the console they prefer. It's fully up to the individual which they like better, and they shouldn't be ostracized for making that choice.
I for one would love to see how this thread would go if the PSP didn't have it's flashy graphics.
DS just for kids? I don't agree. At all. And I presume Nintendo wouldn't either; I don't see many 6 year olds up watching some of the programs that have been sponsored by the DS on Channel 4: FAQ U, Balls of Steel, 8 out of 10 Cats, etc.

Right firstly you have even proved yourself wrong here, i said the PSP has got a built in MP3 Player and an mp4 movie player you said the DS has. But then you also said you have to an accesory to use the mp3/mp4 player, so you proved yourself wrong there.
And i also said the PSP has built in wireless internet, you then said the DS has wireless internet, but.. you then said you have to buy an accesory for it so you proved yourself wrong again. The point i am making is all the features i mensioned are already built into the PSP. You have to buy Accesories to have these features on the DS you said that yourself so you cant argue :P :eusa_danc

Yes it does. An attatchment coming out within the next few months will allow wireless gameplay.
Another factor PSP dosn't have is "picto-chat"

ozzie... being able to play old games isn't new, ps2 started that with being able to play ps1 games on it...
psp is 50x better than ds. If ds gets a touch screen Lumines though, i'll go buy another ds :D
i dont like the touch screen atm, none of the developers are really using it to it's potential.
And some of you talk about psp's dead pixels-- My first ds's touch screen only worked in the top corner! that's 1000000x worse than a few pixel errors, especially when you need that to play the games.
Try calibrating your touchscreen

Who wants a touch screen on there console? People like you!
Yes, you get happy over this one 'amazing' function, having a touch screen makes it awckward.
Lmao! You make me laugh when you said Playstation always copy nintendo. Please, have a little sense, Playstation reveloutionise gaming, Nintendo are behind them if were speaking about these terms. Nintendo make consoles for people who are happy with basic gaming features.
I'd like to see what you say when the new PS3 comes out.
1. Sony copy nintendo. Not playstation. Noob!
2. Has and is are differant words that have differant meanings.
3. Touchscreen on a handheld? Nintendo took a chance, and it payed off

No, hotspots are when there are hotspots in your house or work place for wireless internet. Not 'Mobile telephone poles'. The PSP has built in wireless internet.
To get to the standard of the PSP, your going to pay the same price, maybe even more on buying accesories for it to match the specs of the PSP.
In a previous post of mine, I declared that I agreed with some of your points and said get on with the discussion. Ozzie obviously prooves himself to be the true NOOB and carries on calling people Noobs and acting immature.

Both the PSP and DS have built in Wi-Fi capabilities, which means they'll both need hotspots set up to be used. The only online-based advantage the PSP has is having an internet browser, though considering you'll need to be near a hotspot, you'll probably be near a computer with broadband anyway, so that's more of a novelty than a useful function.
At the end of the day, what it all comes down to is games. You can argue until the cows come about how amazing Ridge Racer is and how engaging Lumines is, but in my opinion I've had more fun (because remember, that's what gaming is about: fun) out of my DS playing Super Mario 64 and Wario Ware Touched!.
However, it doesn't mean I'll abandon my PSP in a hurry. I thoroughly enjoy a game of Virtua Tennis, or a ***** at beating my high score on Lumines (though Tony Hawks leaves a lot to be desired), and I'm very much looking forward to future releases.

From what I've seen of this thread theres many mixed oppinions, maybe because we have a younger audience? the DS is mainly posessed by youngsters now. The PSP, I think you either hate it or love it! I've always stuck with playstation so I'll keep my vote and go for the PSP.
I don't think you can argue that the DS has a better gameplay than the PSP? Graphics does fall into that category, thats the whole point of Gameplay, the environment of the game and how well it plays etc...
From the games that are currently released on the PSP, I would say that it has got alot to show.
For Example: Wipeout, amazing Graphics and amazing gameplay, bordem of nothing of its kind.
Don't get me wrong, the DS looks tempting to play, some games they have are very addictive and enjoyable, but for me, I'm a PSP person, I'll stick with that :p
lol
Nintendo is generally aimed at 13 under, they admit that, so yes the majority of games are childish. i find that games that used to flumex me r too simple now and i prefer the sony games now. I do continue to have a good game of super smash bros or mario kart. Proof that ds is aimed at younger children, most of the games are 3+ rating. the psp is more sophisticated with films and headphones etc. a younger gamer wouldnt be to bothered about films and music but an older gamer would be grateful for the multiple uses....
This morning i played pokemon for some weird reason and i just didnt get the same thrill as before...
Ive got to say though ds is going to have an advantage as this is may i add sony's first hand held console. i think they've done very well and it is better for 14+ Although u do miss the predictable story lines of nintendo and the classic battle of mario and bowser.
i wouldnt say psp is a wipeout as it seems to be selling just as well as ds...

I have a DS, and a PSP. In my eyes, DS goes all the way. The PSP gets far to dirty. The screen is on the same level as everything else, including buttons, which gives way to easy scratching. Loading times are also a large pain, and battery life. The amount of time I have to spend charging it is phenomenal, as it takes a long time to charge. The DS is much more reliable, with a very long lasting battery life. The game line-up is absolutely great aswell. May I make a point of telling you that the DS is aimed at ALL audiences. I certainly don't think the Project Rub is a game for under 10's. Other games, such as Another Code, are aimed at an older audience, as is Ridge Racer and other racing games. The puzzles are very challenging. There are SOME games which are for younger people, but some make the mistake of saying that ALL DS games are for a younger audience. The DS is much more robust, and I hell of a lot of fun. I have Nintendogs on preorder. You can just pick up and play a DS. With a PSP, you have to endure the loading times in public. And, well, the DS's online capabilities look rather promising, aswell as its connectivity to the Revolution. Oh, and just incase someone else takes a dig at the games... METROID HUNTERS FOR DS WILL KICK J00 PSP!!!!!!11!!11

I couldn't really care less which console is better anyway. I'm primarily interested in the games. If you have a flashy console that has great graphics with poor quality games (ie. devoid of fun), what's the point?
Pick your games first, then your console.
Supporting a console rather than the games is like following a record label rather than the bands they have signed.

I can see what your saying Mit :) but as a handheld, people imagine that its made for journeys which its not. The PSP and the DS are both good consoles in different ways, but you have to see that these amazing handhelds are consoles and damn good ones too!
The Graphics on these small handfulls of fun are amazing, making the gaming experience even better when you think about "How the hell they make games so good when the console is the size of your hand?"
I'm pretty impressed with these and recommend these consoles to everyone.

When you compare a DS to a PSP [FOR ME] is that a PSP is 200 million times better. I cant find anything wrong with the PSP but I dont like the Idea of touching the screen. Its still a very good system but for me the PSP is the best and it will always be.
Compare this,
PSP: GTA
DS: Nintendogs or something
PSP: Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix
DS: Mario

GTA is one of the most successful games ever!
No matter how rubbish it is, there's no way the fans of the game are going to put it down.
Nintendogs is unique and gets the user involved in the game.
I find it hard to find anything wrong with the DS.
With the PSP there's now a virus going around with a program that knocks your version down to 1.5 which makes your PSP unusable.
So,
PSP-9
DS-10

Ok then Remin, Do you have a PSP? NO
Your an opinonated pre-puberty nerd (ok thats going abit over the top) but try seeing both side of the story before saying "mine is better than yours"
There are also some opinionated newbs on the PSP "side" aswell ill give to that.
I can safely say that I have played both consoles and I have played Nintendogs. I gave my DS to my sister (who incidently is 11) just before Nintendogs came out. She was desperate to get it so I thought I would give it to her as an early x-mas pressent. When she got it she couldnt get enough of it, that barking was doing my f***ing head in for the whole weekend. But come Monday she dosent play it anymore, bored of it.
When she was out, I thought I would have a go on it (sad old me) I can say I dont see the point in it what so ever, I dont get why you cant just get a real dog?!
I have a PSP and I feal (note the word I) that the psp suits people over the age of about 13, I personaly cant put Burnout down at the moment, and I realy dont se the long term apeal of Nintendogs.

actually no.. after i have played the gta games i have been watching some documentaries etc.. and there are definate similarities between the gta story and a real life thing that has happened
and for all you who have replied "but the guy in gta is fake" what i ment about the dog game is, you can go out and buy a real dog, you cant go out and buy a little gangster and get him to rob cars etc.. for you.
Ds has pathetic little kiddy games.. i like games with violence and a storyline.. not..
"Oh no mario! the princess has been kidnapped kill 5 bosses and go and get her. The End..."
or gta.. about 10 different stories to follow
and.. downgrading your psp yer there is a small virus on the image which changes the buffer overflow.. but.. it didnt do anything to my psp ive downgraded my psp 3 times and ive done 6 of my friends.. now i can get any game i want for free and play homebrew.

Please don't try and question me as I have a much more powerful argument than you do.
In this argument, I have a selective side in which is the PSP, however, I havn't in any sense been bias towards it. I've a knowledge of both consoles and previously in this thread I've stated good points for the DS. In this case, I'm not being bias, I have positive opinions for both consoles but I prefer one than the other, thats not being bias.
As we've stated before in this thread, yep! the different features what console has and hasn't got, we know that! I very much doubt you've ever touched a PSP by the way your going on about it, almost it seems that its the worst creation ever!
Again, I don't think anyone can argue about the PSP's graphics, try playing or atleast take a look at 'Burnout Legends' on the PSP, I think you'll be shocked to what the Nintendo has to put up with.

I MUST totally disagree with most of your comments to do with DS, the DS is nothing compared to PSP.
The psp you can run movies, emulators (any console), OLD school games, MOVIES, put films on psp, MUSIC, internet, TV (Soon), RADIO, word processing, windows I could go on.
What i'm saying is the PSP has got A LOAD more features and a lot to see from the future, all you need is the know how and you can turn a PSP into ANYTHING.
And finally the looks.... Mean while DS looks like a ugly brick the psp looks good and you can tell it's decent by looking at it.
Verdict = PSP by miles.

Woah. I haven't commented on here in ages :)
What's all this rubbish about bias? It seems that just having an opinion makes you biased in this thread. How about we all put 'despite what I say, I love both consoles equally' at the end of every post. Will that solve our troubles?
Right, summary of everything i can be bothered to say:
Sales figures: ssricky, don't take things at face level ;) The fact that 10 million PSP units have been shipped means nothing. Shipped simply means that they've been sent to the shops, and there's a distinct difference between shipping and selling. Worldwide sales of the PSP are about 5.1 million. The DS has still sold more.
GTA Film: Yes, there was one, back in the 80s. It's where Grand Theft Auto gets its name and basic premise from. End of story.
What is better?: My honest answer is 'I don't know'. So far I've probably had more enjoyment out of my DS - graphics on the PSP may at first have the wow factor, but they mean bugger all. All the fancy features of the PSP are just as meaningful. I care about one thing, and one thing only: the quality of the games. In the coming weeks I'm probably going to play my PSP a hell of a lot more, as GTA, SSX and Pro Evolution releases are looming.

I don't think it matters whether you have one of the other, it doesn't mean you'll be biased towards it, you've simply got more knowledge and liking for it. If you have both or have played the consoles a good few times then your more than likely to have a bias opinion also an equal opinion.
Like I've said before, however some may have misunderstood, your own opinion is your own argument, and having one, you make an argument what it is.

Im gonna have to say DS
I have played both, since now i've posted this its out, and when this thread was started it wasnt :)
Anyway i had lots of fun on the PSP, and tried out the MP3 which was good.
But i just LOVE my lil DS. Its just so original and wicked, sure the graphics arent as good as the PSP, but who cares its still fun to play. Its like a handheld laptop or something. I got the new Nintendogs, its the best thing ever, i honestly say i love my lil dog Spike.
I dont like argueing about which is better, so heres my view
PSP: Good Graphics, Good Gameplay. Great for someone who loves Sony and PS2s, but in the longrun, its a handheld PS2 with lesser graphics and an Mp3
DS: Good Graphics, Great Gameplay. Its just a really cool lil device, i love mine to bits. Its just original and new :)
In my case, there both GREAT consoles :)

Having the emualtor on my PSP is NOT illegal, however if i 'HAD' roms on my psp that would, but either way most things are illegal now a days.
For ALL THOSE that said it's illegal, having the emulators arn't illegal but roms are.
Though Sony HATE the fact that we are running our applications and emualtors as such, they'll probably make running any homebrew illegal, DAMN SONY
