Well up until recently i used to swear and curse a hell of a lot. I realised that it was probably making me look a bit vulgar so i decided to try and reduce it. Essentially now i rarely swear, which could only be good i guess.
Anyway, so do you guys swear/ curse a lot in real life? Or what are your thought on people who do?
I do use it a lot in daily conversations but when people are around that I'm very fond of I limit it to show respect.

I do swear/curse a lot only when I'm talking with my close friends and family. Just you know..using words like ****, ****ed up..nothing offensive to the family. Even when I'm at shopping malls or public areas, I still swear/curse regardless of what people think. In Asia, they might say that you are impolite but I don't care. It's the freedom of speech lol. It's not like they are gonna arrest me for swearing/cursing.
If I heard people swear/curse? It's normal to me as long as it doesn't offend my family members esp my mum like **** your mum or something. That's a big no.
I never really swear inrl. I don't really mind if other people do though, except when people use ******* like 5 times in a sentence, between like every other word.

omg i find swearing a huge turn-off. i don't mind every so often but when you use it more than twice a day i honestly do get turned-off.
my parents never swore and i remember i'd get told off if i ever tried it. even now whenever my brother swears my mum will tell him off (but tbf he's usually swearing AT her). i don't care if that sounds childish but because of it i've never felt the need to :S it doesn't feel right in front of my mum. i don't actually swear at/to people unless it's a joking "**** off" or whatever. the only time i really swear is when i forget something, hurt myself or use it for effect in a 'debate', not an argument :P i can deal with those kinds but using the f word all the time, using the c word at all and using swear words to insult people put me right off. my grandparent's swear like sailors as do my other family members, i don't swear to fit in with people though because i actually feel uncomfortable doing it. meh.

Actually you can be arrested for foul language if it causes a breach of the peace here. Personally I just think it makes one look cheap. It is not cool and it is not clever imo. Resorting to swearing just shows a distinct lack of
vocabulary and a lack of intelligence and EQ.

I don't even realize I'm doing it and my friends do so it's just normal now. When I speak to people online (skype) I can only imagine how much of a dope they think I am I literally swear in everysentencewithout realizing it, I'm going to try to stop.

No, I don't really swear. Perhaps around friends if we're having a joke but I have never ever ever sworn infront of my parents. It's just not right.
I have discussed swearing several times in English Language though, debating whether it should be seen as good or bad. On one hand, it's not the words that are offensive - it's the people on the receiving end that interpret them as being offensive. Obviously if they're used in a negative way then they have their own set of connotations, but in every day speech it is largely used to bring emphasis to the situation and display how annoyed / happy someone may be. We can't really categorise swearing in general as being bad.
That said, I still find it unnecessary.

I rarely swear irl and when I do it's only around my friends, never sworn in front of parents. I don't really mind if other people swear but I have a friend who swears in nearly every sentence which gets pretty annoying.

I will very occasionally, but it really depends on the subject and how strongly I feel about it, but I don't swear for like no reason..

This is Malaysia and even if it's at other place, I'm pretty sure a lot of people curse/swear? They were done for just the point of exaggeration. I don't really judge people on that because swear words and curse words vary according to different people. And in addition, never judge a book by its cover. ;)
I used to swear and curse a lot but lately I have been getting better and trying to tone it down a bit

Nope, hardly ever. I've never sworn in front of my family because it isn't necessary, but I do occasionally with friends. :)

Yesss, I swear so much - usually when I'm having a rant at something.
I don't do it around my mum... but other members of my family I do ;L , I do it around my friends a lot more though. But yeah, as someone said - if someone uses it so many times in 1 sentence it annoys me.

Actually you should judge a book by it's cover, in most circumstances, in my opinion - first impressions count a lot. I am not saying that lots of people don't swear but it shows a distinct lack of respect for those around them and if people cannot communicate with each other without swearing then there is something wrong, I believe. What are the positives of swearing apart from 'freedom of speech'? I appreciate though that sometimes it is done to be 'in the crowd' but I feel it is better to stand out from the crowd.
I swear to emphasize my point most of the time. As "For goodness sake" just doesn't cut it. But in general I only swear in adolescent environments e.g. college or in house.

Not really on the odd occasion when I'm with my friends, it's a bit of a turn off if you ask me.

I never swear in front of family and only in the company of friends if we're engaging in some delightful banter. Usually I just swear at my computer.

I don't understand why this ******** assumption is so common. Then again, the beliefs of the masses are usually wrong.
I swear every day - though I minimise it around family who find it distasteful - and I think it's arrogant to spout 'swearing means limited vocabulary' and its variations.

So you are basing your view on one clip from Stephen Fry which is also an extremely negatively overblown, stereotypical of people who do not like swearing and hardly a scientific finding. :P He is entitled to his opinion as you are entitled to yours and I am entitled to mine.. Maybe people in the entertainment business do swear a lot but I can only draw on my own personal experience. Tell me how does constant swearing enhance anybody's life? We all swear if we fall over or something as it is a release of the almost shock/pain of the experience. Alternative finding:

lol, put it this way...
I know who to swear around & where & when isappropriate.

I rarely curse or swear because in my opinion it doesn'y show me an interlectual conversation. In a way it shows me how they follow the ways of society. Why don't you cuss and swear in your job?.......You would get fired for one thing and be known as rude, so why is it acceptable around our friends?

I sometimes swear without realising, or I realise as the word is about to come out and awkwardly change the word into something lesser. Depends on surroundings and my current mood at the time too.
I swear quite a bit irl, my whole family do. But when its a formal situation I cut my language use

Not really, i guess its the way you've been raised.
When i get too excited i swear a lot especially infront of my family lol. They don't mind. I think swearing is ok but it gets really annoying when you swear a lot.
