Russell Brand Splits From Katy Perry

Comedian Russell Brand and singer Katy Perry have split up just 14 months after they wed in a lavish ceremony in India.

In a statement the 36-year-old Briton said: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage.
"I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Brand offered no other details but in papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court he cited irreconcilable differences.
The couple met at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009 and married in October last year (http://news.sky.com/home/showbiz-news/article/15770025).

But rumours of problems in their relationship circulated right from the start as their respective careers meant they were rarely even in the same country.

Speculation that they had finally called it a day increased after the couple spent Christmas apart, with Brand pictured in Cornwall while pop star Perry was seen with friends in Hawaii.
Despite this, only days ago 27-year-old Perry sought to distance herself from the rumours.
"Just because we don't flaunt our relationship doesn't mean there is something
wrong with it. Privacy is our luxury," she said.
Perry's run of No. 1 singles earned her the distinction of becoming MTV's first artist of the year earlier this month. She hosted Saturday Night Live on December 10 and gave no indication the couple was in trouble.

Brand's recent film credits include Arthur, 'Hop and Get Him To The Greek. He is among the ensemble starring alongside Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages, set for release next year.

I'm very disappointed but after the news at Christmas I sort of realised it would be coming eventually. I think they did rush into it all a little bit too quickly and it did seem really genuine at first, but ever since Katy's tour the marriage seemed to deteriorate. Maybe I can have Katy now tho(yn)

Think it's unfair for people to assume that just cos they're celebrities that it's all a PR stunt. It's sad it didn't work out and I wish them both all the best. it'sa miserable way to start the new year with a divorce but I'm sure they'll both come through it eventually.

I don't think it was a PR stunt, it seemed like they genuinely loved each other in a way but she was on tour most of the time and busy traveling around the world as was he. I guess we could have seen this coming, I feel really sorry for them :(

It's very predictable, many celeb weddings end after a couple of years. It was probably not for PR, but the media loves the idea of celeb weddings that the gap between hoax and reality become blurred. The world would be a better place if Okay! magazine HQ was set alight one night with all the writers in the building, they do write a lot of dribble no-one should care about.

That said, the couple's relationship always talked about. When she was on tour the media noticed the threads loosening.

no, no, no. all wrong. hey i don't even like russell brand but it's not fair that he gets the blame despite his past. it was katy that didn't want children? she wanted to focus on her career. & russell didn't like her friends and partying ways which may seem hypocritical of him but he's a recovering junkie/alky, could have shown a little respect. imo if you aren't ready for children then don't get married until you are incase you find out it's not what one of you want but it's a bit silly if they both want children eventually with each other, it's not a huge thing to get divorced over :S
