Comedian Russell Brand and singer Katy Perry have split up just 14 months after they wed in a lavish ceremony in India.

In a statement the 36-year-old Briton said: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage.
"I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Brand offered no other details but in papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court he cited irreconcilable differences.
The couple met at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009 and married in October last year.

But rumours of problems in their relationship circulated right from the start as their respective careers meant they were rarely even in the same country.

Perry and Brand were together earlier this month but spent Christmas apart

Speculation that they had finally called it a day increased after the couple spent Christmas apart, with Brand pictured in Cornwall while pop star Perry was seen with friends in Hawaii.
Despite this, only days ago 27-year-old Perry sought to distance herself from the rumours.
"Just because we don't flaunt our relationship doesn't mean there is something
wrong with it. Privacy is our luxury," she said.
Perry's run of No. 1 singles earned her the distinction of becoming MTV's first artist of the year earlier this month. She hosted Saturday Night Live on December 10 and gave no indication the couple was in trouble.

Brand's recent film credits include Arthur, 'Hop and Get Him To The Greek. He is among the ensemble starring alongside Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages, set for release next year.
Earlier this month Brand told The Ellen DeGeneres Show: "I'm really happily married. I'm married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I'm still alive."

Hearing that they spent Christmas apart in two different parts of the world, then yes people have probably seen this coming.

I think we've seen this coming for a while. There has been no statement released by Katy yet though?

Another sham marriage over between two non-entities, of course we all saw this coming and they have absolutely no sympathy from me when they treat marriage like that.

I actually think it was genuine in the beginning but I doubt they were ready for marriage and that's where it all went wrong.

"Surprise, surprise!" As Cilla would say :rolleyes: It was bound to happen. It was a bit dodgy to begin with. Just a sad rag magazine marriage, no-one should care about these as the value marriage means sod all to celebrities, and the pityful souls who waste their time and money reading these magazines and "news" papers.
