Just buy a SATA to USB adaptor? Go on Ebuyer, Maplin, they all sell em.

Sata is a standard connector shared between all 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives. If you just get an adaptor it will work for both.

I have an enclosure (like a case for more permanent drive use) that does 3.5 only, but the following product seems good and well rated for occasional use:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Decrescent-Transfer-Adapter-Power-Drives/dp/B004ND4632/

Also does IDE for any older drives you might have floating around.

USB isn't able to power 3.5" drives. You will need a separate power cable.

USB/SATA adapters come with a mains power source.

Cheers for that, have just ordered it.
N!ck; I wondered about that but this one has it's own mains supply :)
