Okay, so I dyed my hair red a couple months ago - totally regret it now and want to go back to a blonde color like I was before. I know it's gonna be pretty hard, if not impossible to strip the red from my hair so was going to dye it again. Looked it up on google and apparently I may have to bleach my hair first..havent done that before and so I'm a little worried..especially after seeing some friends have some very bad experiences with it...so just wondering whether anyone heres done it before..and if you thought it was worth it?

If you think bleaching is the only route - go to a hairdressers!!! Everyone I know who bleaches/bleached their own hair had horrible experiences with it. A hairdresser might even be able to avoid using such hard techniques or better quality products - it might cost a bit but it's worth it for the long-term sake of your hair!!

I bleached my hair for halloween a few years back and for a good few months after than my hair was horrible, it strips all the pigments from your hair so even after you dye your hair your hair can be really rough and horrible. Only way I got rid of the feeling was to shave my head, can't imagine you doing that so I'd suggest you take lauras advice and see a professional.

Yeah, was thinking about going to a professional for it - but asking around for that and was told it could be up to £60, which I think is such a rip off..when I could do it myself for less than a tenner.
I've got a friend whose done it a couple times and says she'd be happy to help. -- Tried the allergy test which you have to do 48 hours before dying/bleaching your hair and it seems ok..:L Gonna try plain dying it first before going anywhere near bleach though. :3

Up to, doesn't mean it WILL cost that much! Is the future of your hair not worth that much? Good luck with it and stuff :)

Yeah, I know. I've decided to see how the dye goes - if that doesnt work, I'm going to see a professional - at the end of the day I'm just too scared to do it. xD Guess the cons outweight the pros. And thanks!(:

just use a lightener it won't be as harsh on your hair. i've bleached my hair millions of times and have never gone hairdresser, it's always worked out fine. it's gonna go ginger whether or not you goto a hairdressers, if it just goes platinum blonde it's just going to be a lot harsher on your hair. my hair isn't in a bad condition at the moment, but that's because i know how to take care of it. it's so simple to get your hair back all soft, i sometimes leave conditioner in my hair all day and afterwards it's so lovely feeling. honestly though, lightening is always the best option to me. you can just do it in stages so it isn't so harsh on your hair.

just go to a professional. it might be pricey but its worth it. red is one of the hardest colors to strip your hair of, and if you mess up your color could potentially go brassy/copper and that's just not cute.

I did it!xD Well..never bleached it..or stripped it for that matter, simply dyed it blonde. Knew straight away it wouldnt work..and wans't expecting some miracle to happen from my hair to magically go from red to blonde...well..I hoped it would..xD But there was maybe 1% chance of that happening. :L
So my hair is currently a blonde/ginger colour..and though its not the color I wanted - it's grown on me!(':

a few years ago i tried going blonde from black and it was done at home
it turned orange lmao it was terrible i ended up dying it back black 2 days later
anyway i let my natural hair grow out a few months
then i dyed it red :/
it was terrible lmao the roots took the red color but the black didnt
so then again i wanted to go blonde after that
this time i went to the hairdressers
first time she bleached it and it was still fd up but she put a toner made it light brown
then the next month i went and got it bleached again and it was blonde :D
my hair though now is very dead the ends :(
i got it cut too but i love long hair so i got extentions
its been like a year and anyway my hairs still dead but now i wait 2 months before going to get my roots done

so yh if you go lighter go to a salon
if you go darker u can do at home :D

I'm a Hairdresser myself and I personally would not try and bleach the red out! Your best bet would to be let it fade quite alot then put a light brown over it depending on how bright of a red you dyed it. Going from red to blonde will be a long process but once the reds faded to a horrible brown colour then it'll be easier. Its hard for me to tell you exactly what to do without seeing it so I would go to a hairdressers, I know they rip you off its a shame you don't live near me I'd sort you out for a fair price.

you should probably go to the shops and find some shampoo + conditioner than can soften your hair if you're worried about it being all "dead at the ends". Although if it's been that way for year it sounds like the life has been ripped out of it to me. Ask your hairdresser if there's anything you can do but I think it sounds like you're just gonna have to let your hair do what it wants to do while it grows back out and can start living again.

Hey, thanks everyone! - This is my new account - I was/am CigaretteBirdie:L So thanks for all the advice. As I have already said, I did buy stuff before. The red colour had faded quite abit, and looked almost a light brown/washed out red colour. So I bought dye, and got a friend to do it. Dear god, was so intense in the time waiting for the dye to settle in, starting looking like a purple colour at first - which got me very worried:L But, once it was washed it, it was blonde/ginger - and I actually quite like it:L Only problem was that the roots were quite abit lighter than the rest of my hair, and that bugged me abit - still does, so in the next few weeks I'm gonna be going to a professional (despite how much it costs-.-) and get it sorted out properly! Hopefully next month I will be full on blonde!:')

I've had bright red hair before. The only way I could get it out was to let it fade, so it was near enough pink then stick bleach on it.
Also, if you do bleach your hair and put a colour on it, it won't take the first go as bleach kills your hair, but the second coat of dye will go on easy as pie. (: (I study in hairdressing)

Don't bleach red hair, it'll go ginger. Let a professional sort it out :)

^^Happened to me :P Not great when the world think you and your ginger boyfriend look like brother and sister...
