Yup. Horse meat has been found in some beef burgers on sale from shops such as Tesco and Iceland in the UK and Ireland.

See here:

What made me laugh was this quote:

"In Ireland, it is not in our culture to eat horsemeat and therefore, we do not expect to find it in a burger" #StoryOfMyLife

This reminds me of the frog found in Nando's, if anyone can remember that :P

I don't see what's gross about it :P There's nothing wrong with horse meat, even though it shouldn't have been in there.

init dave, if someone gave u horse meat saying it was a beef burger you probably wouldn't notice anything was different (idk never ate horse) lol
and i'm sure there are a lot worse things in your food/products that you don't know about..............
but yeah obviously shouldnt have been there. i dont think its 'gross' tho but what can u expect, we have no idea where our food comes from or how it's made or WHO it's made by

After you use their bones to make glue you have to use the rest of the horse to make SOMETHING. May as well be burgers.

Thank god I don't shop at Tesco or Iceland :P Not that you'd notice anyway...

I wonder if Asda will include this in their advert, where they compare prices. I'd like to see them compare Horse DNA% now, with nice graphics of horses piling on top of each other, instead of baskets.

Well at least the situation is stable, though it wouldn't have affect me anyway for various reasons.

OH DBGTZ Y U SO FUNNAI

also I can deduce from this article that horse tastes like beef somewhat, seeing how nobody noticed a difference? Not that people eat horse on the regular, but you know what I mean

I don't understand why this would be the case, horsemeat is more expensive than beef unless you're talking prime steaks which would never go unnoticed

Indeed :P Horse meat is much nicer - it's leaner and much more succulent. You're getting more than you pay for.

O_O I'm so glad I shop at M&S & Waitrose LOL... but WTF? They put pig and fricken horse meat into "BEEF" burger... >___> UNLESS OMG THE COWS/BULLS IN IRELAND ARE 1/2 COW 1/4 HORSE & 1/4 PIG!!!!

How do they even get horse meat in them? At least it's not as bad as finding frogs in salads and such.

What's making me laugh is everyone saying they could have died, er no you can eat horse, it just shouldn't be there. The customer is completely at fault though, the cheap burgers aren't marketed as 100% beef so they must know they're eating something other than cow, although it didn't say what.

If they were marketed as 100% beef then that's not on, but it's happened, they're going to have to pay for their mistake but it won't kill you!

So that's why they taste so much better

Don't lie you love a your beef ;)

and mehh tbh if it tastes good and doesn't cause any harm then I don't see why people would think its sick lol

I read somewhere that there's an insect limit on food? As in food providers can't go over a certain percentage of insect-related ingredients per each food item.

I'm sure it's true though I may be going slightly crazy.

Somewhat disturbing, but unless you really have something against eating a horse as opposed to any other animal I guess it doesn't matter much. Anyone who eats gelatin can't really complain except for the fact that the ingredients aren't stated truthfully.

Frankly I would prefer having horse meat in my ground beef to some of the chemicals they use to treat it these days.
