So to go to a Scottish University like I want to, I had to take a IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam, which I did on the 18th of last month. What two of the universities said is that I couldn't have anything under 5.5 and had to get an overall grade of 6.

6 -Competent User, has generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.

Here are my results:
Listening: 7.5
Reading: 8.0
Writing: 6.0
Speaking: 6.0
Overall: 7.0

7 -Good User, has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriateness and misunderstandings in some situations. Generally handles complex language well and understands detailed reasoning.

So I'm pretty happy and congratulations to me! :D See you in Scotland! xD

im sure eu students don't have to?
Scottish people don't pay for their first degree only and also apparently if you're over a certain age you have to pay if you're doing like highers (your a levels)

Basically we pay, but whatever we need to pay, the government pays for us. I'll only have to pay my stay in campus and food, etc.

Congrats :)

Yeah, EU students don't. First degree it's what, first four years? S:

Oh, makes sense. Here you always have to pay, but it's way over what is acceptable like in England, in my brother's uni it's like a bit over 1000 euros in public ones.

Wait... So Scottish people can get a free degree, and Europeans can get a free degree, but English and Welsh people can't get a free degree?

And by 'the government pays it', you mean the government pays it outright, or you get a loan from the government that has to be paid back in the future?

Yes, basically that. xD And the government just pays it. In the Uni site they say like EU students pay x, but we don't actually have to pay anything.

i get my fees paid for me and a bursary of £220 monthly for travel and books/lunch etc but i don't particularly need it as my mum pays for all that... neither of those have to be laid back. i just keep my bursary in my savings for future but it does help other people like those living far away or not at home. then theres student loans you can get if u want, not really sure how that works as i dont have one but my friend dropped out of uni after few months and had to pay it all back. yeah it's not fair on england etc but hell im not complaining. anyway make a debate if u want so we don't go off topic here :P @Kardan (http://www.habboxforum.com/member.php?u=3428);

No the government don't need to sort it out as Scotland has powers over their own education so it's their decision. SNP says if we go independent education will still always be paid for by the government so... dk how that will hold up but until then, no1 in scotland is complaining and it's our universities so you don't have to come nor do we have to pay for english people to come to ours either

everyone has option for bursary and student loan(tbh idk about eu students you'll have to try SAAS) idk how it works or if everyone gets it but my mums always been the lowest income so ive always had like free meals at school and highest amount of EMA etc cause im poor. so im not going to complain about not paying uni fees as i wouldn't have been able to go without this

I don't mind that Scottish people get free education if their government wants to give them it. And I'm not too bothered that Europeans get free education in Scotland, it's that England and Wales (Despite being in Europe?) don't get the free education. So what should happen is that either Europeans pay, or let England and Wales get it free there as well.

Reading into it, it turns out that it's a European law that Scotland has to give Europeans free education if they give Scots education, I just don't understand why England and Wales don't fall into that :(

Maybe -:Undertaker:-; knows, he seems to know everything about Europe.

or Northern Ireland! although people here had been getting an Irish passport so that they could get around it, but think they are bringing in legislation to prevent it.

Yeah, the only way for anyone in England and Wales to get free education is to have Irish grandparents, become an Irish citizen and being considered as part of the EU.

If Scotland becomes independent from the UK, does that mean we'd be considered as the EU then? And we'd get a free degree?

would be bit silly to allow England Wales etc as then everyone would come to our uni's instead :P
i think SNP want to be a full member of eu if theyre independent (doesnt mean they,l be allowed to) so will prob always be the case that scottish and eu students get it free. I have no idea why england and that aren't tho idk anything about eu politics etc all i know is Scotland has devolved powers over education therefore their rules
