Could you please prove to me that every song someone listened to in PWYLT was actually listened to by that person. Until then move it to spam <3
People are less likely to make that up. Yet again, it's just another case where you need to use some common sense.

People are trying to argue that a thread about counting coco pops in your bowl, where people are just making it up, has a point.
its mean to call someone a liar geeeeez
Mr-Trainor
19-05-2013, 02:03 PM
It doesn't have to be every person, even if one song was listened to by somebody else then that thread had a purpose.
If at least one of you fools counted your coco pops then get that thread moved back to discuss anything, but I would be surprised if even you would stoop that low and count your coco pops lol...
It still shouldn't though, you gain nothing from knowing how many coco pops are in a bowl. However, if these people are really interested in that then I'm sure they can find a YouTube video :P.
I've actually found the What are you listening to thread useful, if I see a song someone posts and I know the artist, I might go a look up that song to see if I like it. I did do that once :P.
Yeh some of these threads are pointless and I hate it when people post threads that they don't genuinely mean. I normally stick to the news section, so that's not really a problem, but have just seen what's the last book that you read thread. That annoyed me a bit because I'm NOT interested in that, I'm interested in if they read it what they think of it. A forum should be a place for discussion, which means interaction. But then again I'm not really that fussed as it doesn't affect the section I normally post in.
Although this forum has other problems, such as the completely broken reputation system.

You didn't really win with the "Post Your" threads so why do you think it's going to be any different now?
Because I already did. Whether you admit it or not doesn't really affect me, but since quality was just enforced the point has already been conceded. What happens now is what's important, if you admit it then you get to enforce the rules as have been dictated in the FAQ and the forum returns to normality and we have some nice discussion. If you don't admit it then the forum continues like this for at least a little while until we all get bored or the forum closes from lack of active discussion.

It's rude for saying people are stupid if they don't know how to use every function of complicated video editing software the first time they've tried it.
Inseriousity.
19-05-2013, 02:05 PM
And now the point has finally been proven. Quality control is an aspect of Moderation. Now that we have determined that in fact quality should and IS enforced can we now have an actual discussion about the degree of enforcement.
Why don't you be more constructive then and start the actual discussion about where you think the line should be drawn? Perhaps then we can avoid the straw man argument that you have so far presented.

This is the easiest solution. It's bizarre that everyone forgets it lol.
I do not think it is the job of the moderation department to determine what threads are good or bad. It's always made no sense to me how people forget that ultimately, threads die. Threads have a limited life span so to complain about them is a waste of time. Keep posting good threads and they'll be gathering dust on page 2 before you know it.

What is your definition of a terrible thread? Should this thread be banished to the spam forum for all the one sentence replies and endless back and forth of ***-for-tat? What about threads that don't have reams of paragraphs? Does everyone need to start writing essays? If you wish to start banishing terrible threads, you should at least state how you would define that for moderators to act on. Give the criteria that moderators should use to get rid of the terrible threads. Come up with that and then you might actually get somewhere with your argument.

So what's active discussion? How many people need to be discussing it before it's active? How far do they have to discuss it for it to be considered a worthwhile discussion?

So what's active discussion? How many people need to be discussing it before it's active? How far do they have to discuss it for it to be considered a worthwhile discussion?
It's difficult to tell, but let's not kid ourselves that Post a Random Image promotes active discussion, in fact the thread rules actively DISCOURAGE active discussion. Same with Coco pops and the first letter of the name thread. Of course it's a fuzzy line and that is why traditionally there was in fact a rule requiring permission to create any 'Post Your' thread and it was very effective on cutting down on threads which don't promote active discussion. As Mr-Trainor has said, use of common sense, if someone has created a thread right along the same vein as another recent thread and it's not even a remotely interesting topic (e.g. "what documents do you have open in np++ or <insert ide/text editor here>" or "Post your keyboard.") then it's obviously not going to promote discussion.
Any thread which has no point, is moved to spam - as stated in the Spam forum rules.
In reality I have no issue with the rule, but under the pretence of not enforcing quality that flies in the face of common sense.

Management decided that we shouldn't be limiting what threads can be posted even further. Which is the whole reason why you/Will/Kardan and anyone else is still posting in here arguing that it should be about quality and not quantity.
The reason for the poll is because from the start of the thread quite a lot of people didn't agree with what Chippiewill was saying. If there was a poll at least everyone would have a better outlook at what people actually think about the threads being posted.

1 - It has no point. Any threads with no point belong in Spam, as in the Spam forum rules.
2 - It was agreed that it's highly unlikely anyone would actually count the cocopops quantity in a bowl :P.
3 - The information, even if people did count, is hardly useful.

Anyway, we may as well do a poll to see the numbers to see who agrees with what. Then we can see if we do need to change the decision on the threads. So I've been thinking about the poll options:
Move the threads into a sub-forum under "Discuss Anything" with post count enabled
Move the threads into a sub-forum under "Discuss Anything" with post count disabled
Move them all to spam
Ban them altogether
Don't change anything and let them continue
Feel free to change them to ones that you think would make more sense.

The section option just seems like another Spam forum tbh. And it depends what kind of threads you're talking about? Some of them are fine, some of them are not - I think the current rules can deal with the ones that aren't, e.g. coco pops one was moved for having no point.

Threads that create very little discussion or short answers such as yes or no. I also assume threads where you post a picture of your router/graphics card is also included. But Chippiewill; may also want threads like "What are you listening to" to be part of it.

As for the second point, I didn't realise that people had to post truthful things :P In that case, we need to get rid of many, many threads :P
---------- Post added 19-05-2013 at 07:18 PM ----------
Anyway, we may as well do a poll to see the numbers to see who agrees with what.
What falls under 'the threads' though?

sub-forum with post count enabled or no movement I'd probably say but removing the stupid ones like the cocopops. If we just keep removing post count from stuff then it's just gonna put off new members from joining tbh that care about raising their post count which is most of them

I just read through this whole thread but I can't understand any of it due to Will's use of a comma splice in the opening post.
4real though I'm personally not overly bothered which way this goes (although I'd rather have non-discussion threads put away in a no-post-count area) as long as the rules are made clear and enacted upon in a consistent way. The only requisite justification for a "pointless" thread in my opinion is one that does not allow for or actively promote discussion; these threads that are being complained about fall under that since typically people go into them to post an answer and then never return, but obviously not everyone will agree with that classification.

You think "Do you like peanut butter is fine?"? Would you still think that if I posted;
"Do you like jam?"
"Do you like cornflakes?"
"Do you like orange juice?"
"Do you like coffee?"
"Do you like tea?"
And so on, and so on?

I think asking people what their favourite brand of peanut butter (for example) is fine, but not whether they simply like/dislike it. 'Cause you can only really end up with 2 responses.
Zelda

Tbh with that one surely it would be more appropriate to ask broader if you wanted some convo topic such as like what do you like to eat and drink for breakfast so at least it brings all those topics in together and perhaps allows a bit of discussion about other people's views on that stuff lmfao. personalyl think do you like peanut butter on it's own is a bit silly though.
Somethign that is true sorta though is a lot of these threads do have a lot of potential to make constructive conversation, example being the thread on shades of blue, though it coulda ended up as 1 words by discussing it you can actually make it into something more really and to label a thread like that might not always be true for some unless they really don't allow for more then 1 word answers.

I think anything that promotes short answers, such as 'Yes', 'No', 'That's nice!', 'Lol' etc. should be included. This includes posts with just images (Post any image, Post your desktop, Post your headphones etc.), but not PAPOY because there is discussion in there for example.
Generally, most 'Post your'... things fall into that.
But I'm not sure what a new sub-forum would do, because isn't that exactly what assorted/misc did, and people complained when all those threads died...? As much as I would prefer some sort of sub-forum to come back for these 'pointless' threads, we are going back on ourselves, aren't we? (And then surely we risk overriding this decision in the future?)
Problem is, we all have definitions of pointless threads.
---------- Post added 19-05-2013 at 09:30 PM ----------
I guess one thing that could be used as a guideline, is if all the people that are replying are generally posting short answers and not many people are quoting other people (thereby creating discussion).

I do think that parts of the 'CC' rule should be amongst the whole of the graphics forum, rather than just the threads labelled with CC.
'That's lovely, I love the way you've captured the emotion in that woman's high five!' is a lot better than 'Nice pic bro', and I've seen many people in the past (Well, usually the same person just doing it many times really) posting these generic comments in graphics :P
But as I said, everyone has their own opinion, and I guess I would be more on the strict side really.

Doesn't really contribute to 'discussion', although that rule hasn't been enforced in years.
Also, it stops people going through the whole of the graphics forum, replying 'That's nice' to each thread.

@Chris (http://www.habboxforum.com/member.php?u=55895); if that chaps motive is to spam, which he has admitted in the quote above, why hasn't anything been done? I don't see why people would care about the odd 'what are you..' threads, personally I don't see the point in them but if they make people happy I don't see how the odd few threads would hurt anyone but when ppl are blatantly abusing the forum to earn tokens by spam posting these threads I can see it being an annoyance, why don't the mods use their discretion when this happens?
And if ppl start complaining that its not fair cos their threads are being removed and others aren't why you just pm them explaining you used your discretion and believe his/her (or w/e they want to be) motives are to just act the bollox, sorted.
Whoa **** 37 pages what have I missed?!

Some person purposely spamming with pointless threads.
Of course I fully agree with Richie's statement, it doesn't matter if it's a few times, as it is a forum and we're all here to relax and chat. But, the problem becomes when you blatantly see a member purposely post thread after thread of useless rubbish. I don't see discretion being used that regularly recently, not sure why. It's sometimes extreme common sense, i.e. you clearly see a person is doing something on purpose.

To be fair, the tokens don't have any use at all really. You can buy VIP features, useless if you have VIP. And you can buy VIP/Donator. VIP gets handed out so often, that there's no need to worry about not having any, and what would you buy donator, when you have the superior VIP?
So I don't understand why tokens are important. And considering the people towards the top of the token list have said they haven't spent any, perhaps it's just another number that people like to get the most of.

They're going to be adding Habbo Credits to the shop, and it's because of this 'blatant spamming for tokens', as someone called it, that I suggested there should be a limit to the amount of times someone can buy credits from the shop within a certain time period - even if that limit is just temporary to see how the initial prices work out.
