So after months of what could probably only be described by his family as hell - Michael Le Vell has been cleared of all charges including rape of a minor.

I kept on the fence with him as he didn't appear to publicly announce any stupid beliefs or ideas, unlike William Roach who believes rape victims deserved to be raped because they had bad karma in a previous life.
Good on him for being found innocent. It will be interesting to read the case in its entirety in due course (rather than rely on the watered down version the media will release, filled with bias or exaggerated claims).

I'm still in disbelief considering what we heard the young girl say what happened to her, this ruling means that that girl lied which is just shocking to me. Especially after what the judge said, I was surprised for this ruling.
But... good for him being acquitted and all

Unfortunately there are a minority of women who feel rape is a way of getting into the news, essentially ruining peoples careers for their own financial benefit. It's a shame for women who have been raped and not had justice done for them.

It's still a young girl though... I guess I'm far too........ I just don't think it's something that people would or should lie about, it's not exactly a joke now is it!
I see what you mean though, especially in such a high profile case. It was a massive headline grabber, the whole teddy bear angle...

Yeah, the teddy bear thing is a bit ridiculous, I mean if you were being raped would you really want to sensationalize it? You'd be traumatized... :S Young girls are capable of anything, gotta keep in mind this girl may have been from a dodgy background, a background where she didn't get much attention from parents and yknow, you just dunno how far that kind of person would go to get attention if they craved it.

It's not the sort of thing I want to think about at all, and I'd rather not speculate either way, not in a sensitive case like this. It's difficult.

Yeah it's horrible really, but there are those types of people out there no matter how much we wish there weren't.

I'm confused, which side are you supporting exactly?

Supporting a side? You can't really "support a side" in a court case. It's a matter of evidence and fact, not a petty debate.
In the eyes of the law, he did not commit those crimes and who am I to say otherwise? I was expressing disbelief that the girl in question could fabricate such a story and ruin someone's life the way she has. The was the judge acted and the things he said also led me to believe that the case was pretty much wrapped up, that he had done it, which is why I was shocked.
Seeing as he has cleared his name, that's why I said good for him. I'm just expressing scepticism after what details I read of the case led me to believe he would be charged with it almost definitely.

I stayed on the fence, not wanting to pass any judgement, whereas my fiancée said he was innocent, turns out she was right :P Hopefully he'll appear back on our screens very soon :)
I'm with the others who were on the fence, these days a lot of people (a lot on twitter) like to play judge and jury without knowing any facts about a given situation.
good on him.
This should have all been kept quiet until he was proven guilty, and when he wasn't nothing said, because it ruins his life as people out there will still think he is, an innocent man made out to be something he isn't isn't right.
wat happens to the person who made the accusations?? he was suicidal.....
Inseriousity.

Sadly, some people do cry rape when it's not true which makes it difficult for those who genuinely have been raped. There are a number of reasons why someone would lie about it: attention-seeking or attention-deflecting (looks like the former in this case), sympathy, jealousy, rejection etc. Despite that, I do think the police need to believe the victim rather than the defendant and let the jury decide because otherwise you get into some really horrible anti-victim terrority that someone who really was raped would find uncomfortable and they'd be placed under enormous pressure.

I actually have no clue what this case is about, never heard of it ;O
But yeah, it's good that his name has been cleared and hopefully the court hasn't made a mistake etc :3

what i was told today is that it was something about an ongoing fued with the family and they didn't really like him, so it seems that they've basically told her to say all this (not sure if that's true or not)
he's also already in talks with coronation street to be back on our screens. poor guy though, i can imagine it's not going to be plain sailing from now on for him.

Unfortunately in our society some people will class everyone on trial as "guilty", no matter what the eventual verdict.
Let's just hope he can get his life back on track.

I have no problem with them favouring one over the other, although it should be equal. My big problem with any case like this is publicity. If neither has been proven innocent or guilty neither should be mentioned. If the court case was private then they wouldn't have had to announce anything unless he was proven guilty but by mentioning his name they have tarnished him and his reputation. The problem is the girl if lying will not have her name mentioned which makes the system look very backwards

My inkling was that he was innocent, but of course you never know - next up we'll hear about William Roache (Ken Barlow) and Rolf Harris.
I have to say that my inkling with both of them is that they are innocent too - and that is afterall the right way to consider them until they have been proven guilty.

It's quite easy to support a side and you'd find in bigger cases people do choose sides. I'm not sure why you're essentially defending her when she flip flopped on her story often but OK.

The police shouldn't side with either the defendant or victim, that's not their job.

Agreed. That said, I'm not too bothered if William Roache is found guilty to be honest :/ His beliefs are a bit... controversial. Saying rape victims deserve it because of what they must have done in a previous life is such an incredibly stupid idea. It's remove the point of victimisation and removes liability from the one committing the actions, and in some ways justifies that rapists are well within their right to have sex with anyone regardless of consent.
