It is often considered an industry for the glamorous, the beautiful and the young, but it was the steady march of the grandes dames of British theatre that dominated this year’s Olivier Awards. Dame Angela Lansbury won her first Olivier at the age of 89, in honour of her return to the London stage after a four-decade absence.

Penelope Wilton, star of Downton Abbey, made it sixth time lucky as she picked up a best actress award after six nominations dating back to 1981.

Dame Angela, who has numerous Golden Globes and an honorary Oscar to her name thanks to a career on television and Broadway, took home her Olivier for best actress in a supporting role, as Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit.

“I’m so infinitely grateful to have this baby in my hands,” she said, on picking up her statuette.

“Here I am, creeping up to 90, feeling like a million dollars,” she continued. “I can’t remember a lot of things at this age, except I can remember my lines.”

I am not into celebrity and all that but I love this lady, she's had such a long career for actually having talent rather than being the owner of a massive ass and she's classy and as close to royalty as you can get. I've already lost Joan Rivers I could never lose Angela. If only I had the money as well as somebody to go with - :P - to the States with to see her plays as well as Broadway in general.

Well done and how amazing for 89.

Thoughts?

Inseriousity.
