Who do you think is best?
I'm planning on moving and I can't get my beloved Virgin Media so I'm forced to pick either BT, Sky or Plusnet.
From what I can see:
Plusnet:
Up to 74mb download + Evening&Weekend calls ~ 18 month contract ~ £8.75/month for 6 month then £19.99 ~ £15.95 line rental
BT:
Up to 76mb download + Weekend calls ~ 12 month contract ~ £26/month ~ £16.99 line rental
Sky:
Everyone says Sky is crap so I'll avoid it

I've never had a proper problem with Plusnet. There has been a tiny bit of downtime this week, but it's been really good for the past 2 years I've used it.

Stay away from Sky, it's painfully slow. This is it on a good day:

plusnet is essentially the aldi to bt's sainsburys. it's cheaper for a reason, weigh up whether you want a higher quality connection or a more money for your wow subscription.

I've always known people with issues with BT and Sky though, and never really hear issues with Plusnet :P

BT and Plusnet are practically the same thing, but Plusnet have a higher satisfaction rate, don't really know why though.
Lauren and myself use 200gb+ of data each month, so we needed unlimited and the price offers that Plusnet has are always really good.

It's not the greatest thing on earth, but it's not bad.
Not trying to be a sales person, but I know a few people who went for BT over Plusnet because they're renowned as being better, when they seem to have had a lot more issues with incorrect data and more unwanted telephone calls etc.

probably because there's not a lot bad you can say about it for its price. We have plusnet and it's relatively stable but the speed is not the best. if you're willing to put in the work to get the data you want then they're definitely your best bet because their customer service is wonderful.

Virgin.
Otherwise I've only heard good things about Plusnet.

I wouldn't recommend BT. Just left BT for Plusnet after having issues - When I first signed up there was a special online deal and I got all the details, email notifications that I'd ordered the package and then they lost my order and told me I'd have to re-order and get a worse deal as the original deal was over. I kicked off and it took me ages but eventually I got an even better deal than the original because of the issues I'd had - at the end of the day it was BT who messed up not me.
They raised their prices later on, around a year, year and a half into my 2 year contract but said I could leave without paying the leaving charge due to the raise but then sent me a 100 pound leaving bill when I cancelled and while I asked to cancel everything they didn't cancel the free BT sport package and instead changed it to a monthly fee, then told me they would cancel it but never did so I still got bills for it (had cancelled my direct debit luckily by then). They agreed to remove all the charges eventually but it's put me off them for life.
I didn't realise at the time that Plusnet is actually part of BT, but luckily it operates separately. I can't say much about their customer service as I've had no issues apart from when they set up my account and misheard my password which was sorted very quick. As it's part of BT their speeds are pretty similar but unlike BT and most other ISPs you can get fibre on it's own without a call package as long as you have a BT or BT based phoneline. We use Post Office for our phone which is far cheaper than BT or any others we've seen.

!!!!!!!!!
You hear bad things about all ISP's to be honest. I'm on EE and have had nothing but good times, but people say they're awful. I've had friends who are having bad experiences with BT, Sky, Virgin and Plusnet so wouldn't be able to recommend past EE personally.

Sky seems to be hated by everyone in the world
BT similarly, but a few less people
and plusnet seems to have the best support and price.

the best advice i can give is dont rush into it, also with bt you can sometimes get great deals where they give u 100pound gift card in sainsburys, so you could use that to buy stuff for your computer/laptop etc

it's not a great deal giving you £100 if it costs you an extra £200 over the 12/18 months of the contract :P
most 'great deals' are crap in reality if you actually look into the deal and not just the fact that OH I GET £100.
I've always known BT to be issue-ridden and crap support which is 2 things I'd rather avoid.

I loooooooooooooooooove Plusnet! Been on it for just over 2 years, I don't think I've EVER had a problem with them. Once I had to call them about billing charges and they got it done so quickly and were lovely. I don't know if it's any different in a big city but for more rural areas where there's a stupidly limited choice, definitely my recommendation.

Why can't you get virgin are they not all over the place I wouldn't pick plusnet but that's just because they're northern and their adverts are annoying

I don't know about Plusnet but BT blocks websites that offer illegal downloads, torrents and a few others. Illegal download sites may be considered a fair block, but torrent sites for seemingly legit things is a bit annoying. That said, the BT Home Hub routers are pretty good, minus the range issue - the admin panel and reliability are two things I can commend them on.

Ideally I'd be using my own router not some cheap crap they send out.
Illegal download websites aren't an issue I just VPN to view blocked websites currently so would continue to do so.

Plusnet is the best option - BT has lots of "offers" but they seem to be only there to sucker new customers in. You may get it cheap for a while but then it'll go full price and you'll be stuck on a contract, often 2 years. They like to raise their prices to but that usually works as an advantage if your wanting to leave like I did.
I'd recommend maybe looking at just getting the fibre only option with Plusnet and maybe even using the post office for your phone line - it'll work out a lot cheaper than having BT

Not worth the effort, the line rental is £0.95 cheaper a month

whatever you do, about BT. They are so ****!!!! my internet will go down no less than 3 times each day and they take the piss for £60 a month its mayhem...
I'm not sure what problems people have had with Sky, but I've had none what so ever. I know people with BT Infinity who've had stacks of problems which is why I chose Sky in the first place. Paying for upto 76mb, can't complain.

We're on sky only because I think it's the cheaper. Struggle to get wifi upstairs tho LOL but don't usually have problems... Got unlimited internet on my phone so I'm usually ok
