A huge fire has broken out in a high-rise hotel in central Dubai close to the world's tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa.
Burning debris fell from the 300m-tall (1,000-feet) building as firefighters arrived at the scene. The cause of the blaze is unclear.
It erupted ahead of a major New Year's Eve fireworks display, to be held at the Burj Khalifa.
It was not immediately clear whether there are any casualties.

It is horrific, at first my sister didn't believe me that it's somewhere on fire and not New Year's fireworks. Hopefully it gets sorted and no one is hurt, apparently New Year's Eve celebrations are going as planned.
oh my. That is tragic. I hope things are getting better! That is scary!
oh god that is awful i hope people aren't too hurt. any news on any casualities or not yet?

Think it's like less than 20 people with minor injuries looking at the latest news about it.

The BBC reporter on one of those clips must have come out with the most ridiculous comments of the year. Flames leaping up 40+ stories of the Hotel, and he comes out with this..."what appears to be a Fire". Where do they hire these people from. No doubt he got a -C on his Media Studies exam.

reporters cant give solid facts like "its a fire" if they haven't been told explicitly what it is yet , they can only report on what they can see so "what appears to be a fire" is the correct way of reporting something like this .. probably did well on his media studies exam actually :)
