Default Fire breaks out in Dubai skyscraper

A huge fire has broken out in a high-rise hotel in central Dubai close to the world's tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa.

Burning debris fell from the 300m-tall (1,000-feet) building as firefighters arrived at the scene. The cause of the blaze is unclear.

It erupted ahead of a major New Year's Eve fireworks display, to be held at the Burj Khalifa.

It was not immediately clear whether there are any casualties.

It is horrific, at first my sister didn't believe me that it's somewhere on fire and not New Year's fireworks. Hopefully it gets sorted and no one is hurt, apparently New Year's Eve celebrations are going as planned.

Think it's like less than 20 people with minor injuries looking at the latest news about it.

reporters cant give solid facts like "its a fire" if they haven't been told explicitly what it is yet , they can only report on what they can see so "what appears to be a fire" is the correct way of reporting something like this .. probably did well on his media studies exam actually
