There are usually calls for them to be tax exempt rather than fully free, but even that is down to people not doing their research really :P the VAT for tampons is at 5%, far far far below the standard rate of VAT here which is 20%, so they're already pretty heavily discounted. There are plenty of things that we can't control but have to pay out for help to comfortably get through (with things like toilet roll, soap, heating, haircuts, all sorts really) and most of those affect everyone not just half the people

Of course they shouldn't be free: I have to pay for tissues for a cold (and er other things) and toilet paper.

how about we let you have a say when you're the one who consistently bleeds from your privates and experiences crippling cramps for 7 days of the month, forking out a tenner for tampons each month is the icing on the cake

all a company needs to do is buy a box of tampons and put in their toilets (restaurant, public parks etc) and potentially save the dignity of women?? would have been nice for 14 yr old me who got my first ever period at a public park to have had that instead of having to cycle a mile home with my male friends wondering why (cause am gna bleed through my pants!!), would be pretty cheap since it only happens every so often with women, wouldn't be replacing it as much as toilet paper.

Also, in most cases you start your period before you're technically an adult, making it fall to the parent's responsibility to purchase the sanitary products if the child cannot afford it themselves (I'm not saying parents shouldn't buy them by the way). Perhaps they could be offered free in schools to those just starting/those who are under a certain age, similarly to condoms.
