There are usually calls for them to be tax exempt rather than fully free, but even that is down to people not doing their research really the VAT for tampons is at 5%, far far far below the standard rate of VAT here which is 20%, so they're already pretty heavily discounted. There are plenty of things that we can't control but have to pay out for help to comfortably get through (with things like toilet roll, soap, heating, haircuts, all sorts really) and most of those affect everyone not just half the people

Yeah I know they dropped the VAT which is good, but I guess that's as good as it's gonna get.

Of course they shouldn't be free: I have to pay for tissues for a cold (and er other things) and toilet paper.

On the other hand VAT has been mentioned. And sure, if there's a case/demand to remove VAT then perhaps.. At the moment we're unable to do that due to VAT being an EU tax, but in a couple of years we can keep/scrap or higher/lower VAT to anything we like.
