that'd spoil the colour scheme lol.

There's a slight pattern on it but that might go because the top right there'd be radio stats im thinking.

It seems like there is a little too much of the yellow and black "ribbon".
Try taking away the "ribbon" around the content and nav etc, maybe go for a metal look?
But keep the black and yellow "ribbon" at the sides.

Hmm, interesting point you make.

The fact that's what the whole site is 'designed' around kind of makes me speculate about changing it.

Adam, you could try making the "ribbon" around the content,nav etc metal, just to see if you like it.
It could look very good.
You could even expand the current layout to a "building" site theme, with pixelated cones and tractors maybe?
But if it looks too kiddish, dont! :D
