As heartwarming as the case studies are, I would note that Apple didn't actually do ANY of the work involved for these apps. They show off how they are helping Africa, why not put some of that $150,000,000,000 cash pile towards eradicating malaria, a disease that kills 1.2m annually, causes brain damage in many young children destroying any chance they may have once had at escaping the poverty cycle. I totally respect Apple is a computer business, but it almost angers me how they try and show how incredible they are based on OTHER PEOPLES work. Furthermore, all these wonderful applications that can truly save lives could be truly incredible if Apple could release a cheap version of iOS for these countries (lock it down to only work with select apps if they must).
Undeniably those apps are incredible, and it is great they work on iOS - but the case is simply that these apps COULD work on WP, Android etc if they were developed for it - Apple really hasn't paved the way for this to happen, and my god if they really wanted to make a difference, that $150Bn would go one hell of a long way.
