With AV you definately get what you pay for - with the free edition you are looking at a partial detection library and a lighter version of the heuristic scanning facility. You are best off grabbing a full AV program rather than a free copy of AVG - with Kaspersky I've noted that places like PCWorld were doing it at half price (no idea if that offer is still on).

Kaspersky is on this PC and i find it's a bit over the top with the protection. I have avast! free on my laptop and find that brilliant although it's only anti-virus protection.

NOD32 Smart Security or ZoneAlarm.

I got kaspersky, and to whoever it was who pointed it out yes PC World were doing it for 29.99 Sterling instead of 59.99 :)
And it has been great, I used avast on an old XP I had a few years ago but the detection alarm was so loud and intrusive and I nearly pissed myself because it would make me jump. Anyway a squealing pig can't be as bad as my tustle with the Avast! nuclear warning siren alarm lol.
