Ahh, I had the impresion they were right next to each other :P
If they're not then they DEFINITLEY shouldn't be interupting each other..

Can the PS3 and PC share a wireless connection via wifi then if I use an ethernet cable?

Right, I have changed the wireless channel on my pc, which it said will stop interference :)

I change the channel on my pc browser, but then my ps3 automatically changes to the same channel?

I had 'Media Server' enabled on the PS3 - not sure why. Disabled it, and it works fine now :S

Yes it can. Briefly: plug ethernet into computer and ps3 - network conenctions, highlight Wifi and ethernet, right click, bridge connecions. Google it, there's LOADS of tutorials :')

If it doesn't; do both machines need to be on for a joint connection to work?

As some people above said (and if the issue reoccurs), try setting your IP address manually instead of getting DHCP to automatically assign it for you. I'm not sure whether you mean they are both conflicting or there is a physical (interference) problem.
