The purpose of getting request is to play music that the listeners are requesting to the DJ.
As the Head DJs doing events well we can do a giveaway with the account by telling Jade and Mark ahead of time during or we can always host Win a Room.
Now if you mean about events that the head DJs have to use their own stuff for it well some may do if they like but what if they don`t play habbo anymore and have no more furniture and only go on if they dj and go to party rooms....how can they host events without furni . Unless the furniture is provided from the events team or whatever then yes.
it was a requirement when Jess managed, Logan and I managed. If you are a Head DJ you need to do this and it was compulsory. That, or you get the team that you manage to help you with it, which is not that difficult.
We'd always assist with furni as well if there were any problems.
Giveaways are also boring and are usually the easy solution to solve a problem. I'd do them, but mix them up with other things. They don't solve the fundamental problems of HxL.
habboxlive causes more problems than it's worth imo just remove it and focus on something else. does anyone even listen to radio anymore lol
Oh btw, in regards to multiple managers; I think that there should only be one manager for each department but having two assistant managers instead of 1 could work. Obv graphics/RV/content/comps don't necessarily need that but for HxL and maybe events it could work?
One thing I would like to say on this matter is that the issue often seems to be the same as it is with events and other community departments - the sense of community is downplayed so much that it almost might as well have password access. Too much is always put on just pandering to the host's chums and having private jokes if there's any speaking at all. On friday (I think, could be wrong) there was a show where in among a few songs the DJ did an "agony aunt" request line, and while a lot of it was people sending in rude stuff that couldn't be read out it got more listeners than most shows and was actually enjoyable and interactive rather than just being a bit of background music, which let's face it we could all put on ourselves since people tend to have their own music on the computer anyway. More interaction with the wider community that staff are supposed to be representing would mean that people actually feel like they're part of the process and hopefully be wanting to get involved themselves.
Also some of the jingles are awful and whoever commissioned them should be shot. There's one that goes on for like 5 minutes and it's just clips of various songs cut together with Movie Maker or something
I would assume that international managers (international still being a far smaller part of Hx) would still be answerable to the main dept manager so it would be like an extra assistant yeah, and obv only necessary for community departments as you say
Weren't they back before you became manager, I'm sorry, but we haven't had consistent reports in ages lmao.
@Grig; I never wanted to make them monthly, that was done when i was the assistant with Charlie, I somewhat like weekly ones as you get feedback often.
Thats the whole point of bringing in these type of weekly shows for a community feel. The Heads and Seniors all have requirements of hosting x amount of events per month and to be honest pretty much all of those rules are still in place as set when Jess, Logan etc. was here.
Obviously it was fine up until myself and Mark went away for three weeks due to exams and since then it has drastically dropped. In hindsight I wished I have asked GM to take over for those three weeks as it quite obviously have a hard fall down in May for us because of the impact of having no management in charge but its just one of those things that we have to look at the department as a whole and also at the individuals and see who we feel should be making the cut and also HELPING those who don't rather than just throwing them aside.
Obviously at the moment we are bringing back weeklys, sorting out big events, trying to encourage DJ workshops and server trials, we've improved the way in which to apply on hxl.com so you don't need to e-mail. Loads of things are getting done just at the moment it is a lot of back end stuff that needs sorting out.
I might as well post some ideas in regards to roles within the radio and events etc.
I think in regards to roles and management there needs to be set international managers, thats what works. I've just come out of a stint at another fansite and the way the management was laid out was amazing and it was so much easier than Habbox management. They had:
EU Radio Manager
NA Radio Manager
OC Radio Manager
All the departments had equal times to DJ, there was a nice mix of international and home presenters and we all worked together to make events and helped each other develop our respective departments. I think that HxL should either have a stricter rule on hiring DJ's, for example put them on the server trial with no option to make sure they arent lying in their application and then when you think they are ready put them on the main server. I don't think that new DJ's should be allowed to go straight onto the main server and completely ruin the listeners, or just disconnect. Some of the new DJ's need some serious training with connecting, covers, SAM etc.
I think that OC needs to be focused on because during AEST times its pretty much offline for the whole time, apart from the odd Senior+ staff that goes on and streams for a couple of hours. I think its a bit silly that there are 2 managers for over 40 DJ's, both EU managers. There are head DJ's 2 are EU, and seniors have no authority what so ever. I personally think that senior DJ's should be scrapped and have maybe:
EU Radio Manager
2 EU Head DJ's
NA Radio Manager
2 NA Head DJ's
OC Radio Manager
2 OC Head DJ's
because in my opinion from working with senior+ since 2011, the main role of the Senior team is to report DJ's, post feedbacks and get told to do events which dont tend to occur. If there were more head DJ's then there would be more authority and an improved quality during non-UK peak times.
In regards to events and shows HxL need to go through with the news shows. Also I dislike some of the senior+ events at Habbox, mainly because from what I've seen they are pretty much 'forced' events due to the 2 events per month rule. They are all the same, win a rooms and giveaways and guess the passwords (that arent events, they are small competitions at the most) and i've said this so many times even when I was management.
The Vault (I can help you with it if you want etc)
Whos on 'Heart' idea, the one @MissAlice suggested over 6 months ago
Deal or No Deal, @,Jess,; did this many times and it was awesome.
More connection to other community departments, mainly events and help desk.
Habboxlive needs a serious clean up, and I think Jade and Mark can do that when they are settled back into rota, as they all have exams at the moment. As do most of the department at this time of year. Social Media and Weekly Shows need sorting out badly, and of course radio events.
Top 20 shows
Call in shows
Weekly chat shows
News shows
these would be a good start, with decent trustworthy DJ's.
Thats me finished, night all! x
Well I don't think it's a good thing to lie to grig regardless of who brought them back. I wanted them back ages when I was originally the assistant the first time, but I didn't get as much chance as you did when you were yhe assistant. Although there was no point as we had a lack of staff.
yea not denying that you didn't was just stating it to grig :P
-----------------
+ I agree with Jazz a lot really, more stuff to do with news was something me and her were discussing a bit and it's definitely something that I need to probably discuss with jade/mark really to actually get going more too, sort of just halted really. Lots of weeklies of all sorts are definitely a good way to go forward tho
We only have two australian DJs so no way can we even contemplate bringing in an OC side without the push to bring in an OC side, but baring in mind there isn't really any kind of OC side at Habbox as a whole that would prove extremely difficult. At the moment I'm having to be on to cover the NA side as well because we have a very new Head DJ for the internationals. We've been told time and time again that there is no need for an international radio manager and unless Grig came back I wouldn't really trust anyone else either (sorry to my department that are int. but I don't at this point in time)
At the moment only events that count that they can do for events are giveaways any type and win a room competition which they don't do and at the moment it is a serious problem that is being addressed. I'm back from exams and what now anyway so it all getting sorted as much as possible with Mark hopefully returning in the next couple of weeks as well.
It is just one of those things unfortunately that Habbox as a whole doesn't have an international side and it is something that needs to be addressed fully if we have any chance at having a dedicated team like other fansites do. I know for a fact how HFFM runs and I love their way of running but until we have a good full international team that isn't something that will be easily achievable.
What I was mainly saying was that you said you do weeklies each week yet you don't, I know you're inactive and I understand a head did them last week, but we weren't pushed to previously, it's just like when it seemed you and Ryan had just gone away or limited and I had to do all senior duties, although I never see how someone who is away can still post or be on the forum constantly. For example, I'm away now and.haven't spent much time on the forum or Habbo. Really though I can link this to what Jade said, it doesn't help if the manager is away and that's my problem now, I still am berry ill at the moment and you just need to be alone, but people need that role to go to when help is needed.
I've waffled on, basically don't state incorrect information, have someone on hand if you need to go away that way your department doesn't suffer as much.
Having no OC side basically excludes a huge part of habbo as chances are the radio will be down if they decide to listen, god knows how they would even find out about it since there is nothing promoting habbox after 12pm every night lol.
as for the trust thing, surely it wouldn't be up to you to decide a manage who is equal to you and works along side you? did you not get trusted to run the department despite being here only three months? i don't see why you can't do the same for someone else.. lol
My opinions do come into consideration lol.
And we do have an NA side, not 100% strong but we do have 13 NA people at the moment, 2 OC and the rest are UK. The times that are the problem are roughly 7am through to 2pm when the UKs come back from school. These would be the times that australian/new zeland/ other areas over that way would be DJing but we don't have them and with a lack of that side in ALL departments it is difficult to improve on. There aren't events on generally at that time either, it isn't just HxL.
Oceanic people can likely fit into parts of UK/US times considering people don't sleep for 12 hours a day most of the time, and the evening in Australia isn't necessarily going to be a time when the entire rest of the world is asleep. They could come under UK or US management depending on when they prefer to work, since unless we suddenly have an influx of people from down under join up as DJs it's not worth creating a management role for it
One thing I'd like to know is, not regarding other departments much, but maybe have seniors of the community departments more inclined to help with the bigger events like they do in the actual department - Jade, how come they can only do giveaways, win a rooms etc. have they got any ideas or have they asked maybe an EO or someone if they could borrow their room or Wired game for an hour or two?
That isn't what they can only do, they can do what they want with their events, just the majority aren't exactly bringing that innovation into the department to do such a thing. Unfortunately it would be pointless to host proper events as we have EO's for that so providing it is something that can be done via the radio we'd be up for them trying it. Fact is you won't know if something is going to go well until you try it like with Dear Calum... that an idea we thought of before Christmas but until Calum came along noone wanted to try it and it did extremely well on Saturday in my eyes. We have loads of ideas its just taking the step forward to put them out there whilst also keeping an eye on a whole load of other things that need sorting out right now purely down to the fact that the past month has been exam/coursework season so for the majority of HxL it hasn't been a priority, myself and Mark included.
didn't really read through this thread too thoroughly but i was tagged about something to do with The Vault so i thought i'd put my 2 cents in:
whilst The Vault was fun and engaged some of the community, the format was flawed... i'm not sure if Habbo's changed now in terms of the amount of people you can have in your room but when i was active it was 50, so technically only 50 people could get involved with the show, because, let's face it, tuning into someone commentating about someone pushing a couple boxes and pulling a lever is not very invigorating, but then again people did.
perhaps if the vault returned with a focus on the radio side rather than habbo client it may be more successful...
on a completely different note, i saw some discussion about the international side of habbox(live) and i suggest another habbox24 which was, for anyone who can't remember, 24 hours of radio and client events where you win points in the events and the person with the most points at the end wins a prize (throne or whatever)... many members from the community stayed up and competed and it also drew in some new international members.
Yeah briefly mentioned Dear Calum in my earlier post but it really needs to be said again: that's the sort of thing that HxL needs more of. Was hilarious and that's from someone who isn't all chummy with the DJs and stuff
Also with regards to The Vault I think Logan's probably right in that it ought to not be a client-based competition due to room limits, or at least base it on getting around different rooms and not staying in one place
We did a Habbox24 hour giveaway not that long ago and it was very successful in numbers and such just before me and mark went away for exams. I've asked events management a number of times to sort out dates with me for a proper client based events Habbox24 with points etc. Just waiting on replies in regards to that.
I don't get why Habbox always takes so long to roll out new layouts. I know ThisHabbo only took about a month or so, and it actually looks really nice. The longer you wait, the higher the expectations thus become :P!
Let me now talk about perm shows. I briefly hinted that the following shows are needed:
- Variety Show: Where a DJ has one in the middle of the week and has certain segments, a bit like a Late Show on tv. We had 3 of those at one point many years ago and people would get excited and tune into their fix of it because the DJs did them so well. Basically, it would include chat topics, games and humour.
- News Show: It seems the news department and HabboxLive cannot get this together for what seems like ever now. I did do it when I was Assistant Manager of News and it was great promotion for news and a nice and entertaining show for HabboxLive.
- A HxL Chart Show: Have a universal chart show where listeners actually can vote. I'm not too sure how feasible this is now because of low listener rates, but it gives more audience interaction etc.
-Win A Room/ The Vault: Lot's of prizes and we've discussed this already.
- A Chat Show: Have it during the weekend and where you could pick a topic and chat about it- have a debate and allow call-ins. Was always a nice and engaging show.
- Satire/ comedy/ gossip show: An idea never tried by anyone at any radio station, but one that could be controversial and thus very popular, whilst still sticking to the rules.
- 'The Outpost': A good name I thought of an more older teen based show during the middle of the night- less Habbo based, more real life based focused on the older folk.
- Sports Show: Focus it more on things people enjoy such as football, whilst at the same time an excellent opportunity to do sports-like events on the client, which could really mix the two extremely well.
- Spotlight...: A show where you put a spotlight on a certain genre each week and talk about latest news on artists and hits on that particular genre. This can rotate in cycles.
- Friday Night Quiz: Or on any night, have a quiz where people can win a big prize. Pub quiz kind of format.
Obviously, there are many more I have, but have got to pop out now, so will add on to these very shortly. Also will give some other suggestions.
