So you then are one of these people who get defensive over music... well it's all good if you're actually right, but you're not. I like a lot of punk music and not so much emo (although some is good), and I think basically you're just launching an attack on the emo fashion rather than the music. If you've ever heard any emo music you can tell that it roots in punk.

Your "completely correct" view on emo music is a load of crap, sorry. And if as you said I just don't get it, do explain.

Minor Threat pretty much did start it. Then influencing bands like SOIA, Bad Brains & Black Flag. Bad Brains what homophobes haha.

Yeah it's such a contradiction. But Bad Brains stayed true to their rasta roots and thus sung about it. I heard somewhere they got into a fight with another famous band from the scene(forgot their name) cos 1 or 2 of the members were gay haha. Minor Thread discography is not bad atall!

tbh i don't care about their views on issues like that. as long as the music's good i'll buy it :)

and what part of rap isn't music? rap is a singing style - it can go over any kind of musical backing, whether it be computer generated or done on instruments, as demonstrated by the roots.

Pop-Punk is not emo at all. Whoever says FOB, MCR, P@tD, TBS are emo bands are either trying to stereotype people too much or are trying to be crowd followers.

I have to go on last fm to find out that some idiots class Yellowcard as emo. I don't think any yellowcard song really has any emo lyrics, or sounds emo.

Emo is a style of music, but MCR is not emo, and IS punk-pop, like blink 182. Some emo bands are like 'first to last' and halifax and even those are slightly leaning towards the pop-punk style. Well, in my opinion.

good pop-punk is positive and uplifting 95% of the time anyway.
