I saw an episode of Penn & Teller ** about this, apparently babies are hypersensitive to pain so it's about 3x more painful that it would be for an adult. At lest they don't remember it.

i was circumcised at 12 for religious purposes. i didn't get it done at birth because my grandmother wouldn't allow it. the surgery did not hurt at all because i was put to sleep. the problem starts once you're out of the hospital. you can't move about or go out that often as it might bleed drastically. you have to take care of 'it' well so that it will heal within 2 weeks or less. it's nothing really, you just have to endure a little pain for a while after the surgery.
