The reason why Nick removes pointless good reputation is because he is enforcing a rule that has been around for a long time:
That's basically that's all he is doing, and he's even put it in the thread that the forum administrator has the right to remove any other reputation points that break the forum rules or is pointless.Quote:

I know what it's like, it's happened to me before, but I understand that is his job and only trying to give you a fair reputation.

I think your spot on :( maybe its so ppl dont go report crazy and then the person checking the rep doesnt get well behind with 1000s of rep reported.
Here is what I posted in the complaint thread.
I don't like the idea of getting rep removed that was given to you if you never reported it. Maybe when you report somebody for giving you pointless or bad rep they should look at all the rep given by that person and manually deduct the total amount of pointless rep off their own accounts in admincp and leave the members who recieved it keep it? this way it would stop ppl pointless rep especially the people with high rep power.
It's just really annoying. I got 10 rep powers, it got put down to 9, then I got 10 again nearly 11, now it's 9.
It's just annoying.
I got about 200 rep removed before from nvrspk and I didn't report any, it was from something in my sig :S
Punishing the person giving the pointless rep is the way forward and not punishing the person recieving it unless they asked for the rep in the first place ;)

Unfortunately, the procedure for issuing punishment for repeated pointless reppers is almost non existant, granted there was a new infraction added recently for those who swear or post inappropriate comments in the reputation system but it doesnt fix those who dont post inappropriate rep comments and just issue lots of pointless reputation.

I did spot that issue quite a while ago when I started looking at such reputation comments, fortunately the majority of users are often too lazy to find a genuinely good post that was helpful towards the thread topic or helpful to another user and just rep short, one worded posts in the Games section or in the Spam section and it is painfully obvious what has actually happened so the reputation gets removed. Granted its a little inconvenient for me to have to look at every post related to rep that says 'gd post' or a similar comment along those lines but it gets the job done.Quote:

Temporary bans can go on for months and months if we want them to although usually if a user has broken enough rules to gain a temporary ban that significant there's really no point to it and a permanent ban would be more suitable. ;)

&@Nicks edit about bans; well mines 10 day, I have 13 infractions that are valid, and for instance say a few months down the line, all my infractions expire then I gain another 10 or so, would you look into my expired infractions and try and calculate a ban on that? Because I have so many expired ones, eeegh >_>

The best we can do in such a situation is admire the effort the user went to find a valid post to rep and move on to the next comment. Fortunately that is a rarity as once a valid post is found the comment issued often gives it away as rep that's been requested. Another dead giveaway is the time the post that received the rep was posted, issuing rep for a valid post made 6 months ago has quite obviously been hunted down and targeted for reputation. ;)
I don't bother reporting it anymore as I usually lose 50-100 rep whenever I do seeing as people don't always leave comments and whoever removes them doesn't check the post we get repped for.
Actually, I handle that thread and I check every post related to every reputation point that seems suspicious in any way, shape or form. Any reputation I have removed from you was either because other users were 'just spreading', issuing reputation with the expressed intent for you to rep back or issuing it with a pointless/short comment. ;)Quote:

I check the initial post content, the post content of previous posts in the thread, the thread context and the overall tone of comments posted in the thread, don't just assume that I don't do my job properly because you have a difference in opinion as to whats pointless.Quote:

i dont report reps, haven't done for a while, and my rep seems to go up alot more... and no I don't get all pointless +reps lol it says report rep problems, +reps aint the problem yet they remove them. but reporting them always gets ur rep down, I want wayne back =[
