They don't look very similar, he's just got the same / similar background. The rest of the design is just what you'd expect.
Wow, they are similar.
I wouldn't call it 'ripping' though.
hmm.. he proberly got the idea of the layout from there but he hasent "riped" it.
erm dont think so.
'similar'
tis the same, all hes done is flip the left horizontally.. expand these and then swithc the tabs around
http://www.eurovision.tv/img/front/b...led-banner.jpg
http://www.pixstudios.net/flux/images/background.gif
the buttons are pretty similar, the navigation bar and banner are pretty much the same.
the curve from the banner to the top part is well, the same really
i mean of course, eurovision could have come on this forum and randomy pick that thread where he showed it and stole the idea ;)
nahh, invents alright it just seems strange he would do it
Background *cough*
Banner *cough*
Nav bg *cough*
oh yea it does look the same now you told me what to look for :o thought he would never "rip"
This isn't a hate thread but seriously they look almost identical except euros looks better :P
I haven't ripped. The only thing I "ripped" was the background, but I was allowed to use the background during the design process as unlikely many people, I got permission from the webmaster of the eurovision.tv to use the background during the design process - which is what my current design is for, the final site doesn't use the name 'flux' or the design.
For everything else there is nothing "ripped".
Oh and I just remembered this, when everyone asked how I made the background I actually told them I used an image from a website which I got permission to use and altered it to fit my design.
Lol, that's awful thing to do.
However Luke why were you on the Eurovision site? Got a secret fetish? :P
I'll happily post the email once I've finished the forum for HabboLake. So, I'll most likely be posting it later tonight/tomorrow.Quote:
Can you show us the email or some proof you have permission please mr.invent? Pardon the pun
he's an elliot minor fan so it wouldn't suprise me.
you may have contacted them but it seems strange you would contact them and they actually reply tyo a random person saying can i use your background image.
i know some people use ideas from websites but it just serems you have pretty much just copied it just making it thinner and putting a slight twist on it. The nav background is pretty much the same, the nav background (the squares around the links) is the same. The top where it goes from the top to banner to nave is the same.
lool
it was actually me that found it ;)
whats wrong with eurovision? i wanted to make plans so i knew when to not stay in on a saturday :P
To me, only the curve on the top of the design (and the banner obviously! aha) look similar/the same.Quote:
Thanks, as I said nothing against your nor to dent your rep just they look the same man.
But as I admit with other accusations of ripping, it looks different in different people's eyes.
But, to be honest, I think people know me and know that I wouldn't rip.
I didn't just email them saying "cn i use ur bg mate", I asked professionally and asked if I can use their background image during the design and development process of my upcoming website, they replied letting me use it under ta certain situation.Quote:

The squares are inspired by virb.Quote:

Have I c+p'ed the design, if so, then yes I have ripped it.Quote:
Thing is Simon you have ripped, we can see it
If I looked at the design, took inspiration, designed my NAVIGATION BAR concept around that and put my own personal touch to it, then I personally don't see that I've ripped it. But if you think I have, then I guess ermm..I'm sorry? I don't know lol. I just personally don't think I've ripped it, ripping it to me would be using the same images without permission or taking the ideas and 100% replicating them. You may think I've done that, but as far as I can see the only strong similarity is the nav bar.
i think this is it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=MHsm2YVso0A
Ripping i would say as print screeening and saying its yours yes.
but i would also say a form of ripping is looking at a design and pretty much copying the way it is, same backgrounds, similar design, similar navlinks etc
I've already talked about the bg.Quote:

Similar design - To me, it's not really that similar of a design, as to me only the nav bar is similar, that's it.
Tbh, I wouldn't ever use this design on a public site even before this thread as I know I took inspiration from the Euro site.
Lol that is not ripped at all,
The background & round shape are inspired from that I think but other then that I don't see anything wrong.
And tbh :s Simon's looks better in my opinion
I'm sorry right but whatever way you look at it, it's a "rip" or a form of it. If I went and used this:
http://www.zedtu.com/images/layout/banner.pngFrom klydo but re-colored it, would that not be a rip?
Disregarding the background, this is by far one of the best designs I've seen, well done, Invent!
Without permission, then yes obviously...? Also, if you were using the background during the private development stages of your website, I'm sure they would allow it aswell.Quote:

Simon why are you acting all high mighty so recently?
It's it's just photoshop brushes with a film grain effect.Quote:

This is inspired, not a rip, not even a form of ripping.
The only thing that -could- be seen as a rip is the background but he has it with permision so again not a rip.
A rip is stealing someone's work, changing minor details to it & selling/using it again
His looks alot different appart from the background.
His is even better then that eurovision one.
Erm..what?
Wth are you on about?! I asked permission to use their background as I don't like taking things without permission. If you didn't mean that, could you please expand on what you're saying instead of looking like an idiot to me.Quote:

Oli, I don't want you to take this in any offence here.
Because, I have a huge respect for you.
But, so recentely, it seems with Devode, etc,
You (I mean no offence here, and an easy way to put it) have been up Simons backside.
Sorry if I did offend you. :)
edit:
Simon, you say in a post, you ask permission to use a background easily achieved with Photoshop brushes.
It was pointless. We don't care you get a pointless e-mail to try and proove you have "contacts" with the Eurovision webmaster.
lol! Me and Oli are friends, he is no way "up my backside". If anything, I'm up his "backside".Quote:

Once again, lol. How is the email pointless if people are accusing me of ripping Eurovision for using it? By requesting permission, I can show that I haven't infact ripped them whatsoever. Oh and no I don't have "contacts" (I don't know why you are using speech marks seeing as I never said the webmaster was a "contact" of mine?..) with the Eurovision webmaster.Quote:

You can be up each others backsides, for all I care.
You should both start looking in non-biased perspectives.
That is the true definition of friendship, not afraid to express opinions of good or bad to the person.
edit: Simon, I don't care about the rip or not. You're getting proof about something YOU KNOW can be done with easy photoshop brushes.
Why try and proove it, when most photoshop designers, know?
I never designed the background, so I'm not going to claim that I did...:SQuote:

I'm pretty sure if there was a problem EuroVision would of contacted him by now. Anyway, Invent website looks good if don't say myself, good work!
