Pretty sure, that's been there for a while?
Wrong, it was released today: http://macrumors.com/ or http://tuaw.com/
:) I bought my iMac 3 months ago. Paid £1500 odd for the top end 2.8 Ghz one, I want 3.06! :'(
You wouldn't notice any difference from 2.8Ghz to 3.06Ghz.
the modbook - http://www.axiotron.com/
it's not made by apple, but i think that they not neccesarily endorse it, but dont mind it, if ya get me.
they're quite cheap now. apple seem to be getting better with prices, like the latest ipod range
Sounds pretty good, also good for gaming.
Why not just build your own PC with better specs than that and use a modded kernel? It's cheaper.
Meh, from what I've heard, modded kernals are buggy, especially considering different types of hardware you can use. The reason Macs just work is because they are built with the OS in mind. They all use the same hardware, and the OS is built to work hand in hand with the hardware.
I'll probably buy the low specced one (I don't really need that power), and upgrade the RAM. Need a few hundred bucks before I can though (bank account currently sitting at $800 AU).
Nah, I'm on OS X right now on an AMD Processor, it's pretty stable and has better specs than the Mac does (3GHz dual core (not better, but still good), 4GB DDR2 Ram, 1.5TB Space on 4HDD's (one I use for Windows), ATI Radeon HD3780 (well, i have 2 but it only wants to use 1)).
not meaning to sound like a fanboy.. but windows are already designing a touch screen computer.. apple might have one too i think
They do look very nice, as does most apple products.
Still out of my price range, by a long way :(
Getting a MacBook in a couple of months :D
Actually I think a touch screen isn't far off. iPhone and iPod Touch seem to be pointing towards it. Apple have the technology although would have to supe it up a bit to work on a grander scale. I'd recommend they make something which can act like a Tablet if it's connected to something like an iMac or MacBook but then can work alone as a normal laptop.
Microsoft have had touch screen computers around for years now. I think it was 2001 or 2002 that all tourist boards in Scotland got touch screen XP computers. Most are still in place however a lot are being replaced with normal XP machines.
I still personally dislike touch screen on a large scale though as there is no real need for it. Things like phones and mobile devices I can see why as space is limited. However looking at the MB Air you can cleary see that you can get full sized keyboard and controls in a very small machine now.
In all honesty, you look at a UMPC and there is.
Have you seen the price of Microsoft's coffetable?
http://www.microsoft.com/surface/index.html - About $15,000
There's a difference however comparing the surface to the iMac (which is intended for personal use).
I am a Mac fan, do not misunderstand ;).
The iMac

Memory - 3GB
Hard Drive - 320GB
Display - A0C 20" Widescreen TFT Monitor
£499.99 (free shipping)
Not only is the PC almost three times as cheap as the iMac, but it is a QUAD core, with an extra gigabyte of RAM.
Wow very nice.
Thanks for posting.
I wrote a big post, but then Firefox (for Windows) crashed. I can't be bummed typing it again but.
The iMac you have chosen is 24", therefore an extra 4" in screen size, so add £285 for an AOC 24" monitor, which is the correct price.
The iMac runs Windows, the PB doesn't, so you're getting two systems (kind of) for one.
The iMac doesn't need those kind of specifications just to browse the web and chat. You're comparison has been extremely biased.
The iMac also had Free Shipping.
The iMac has a 500GB hard drive, the PB has a 320.
The iMac doesn't need quad core, obviously Windows does to run smoothly. OS X only needs about 512MB RAM and 1.6 Ghz to run.
The iMac won't get viruses, so the price of anti virus needs to be added to the PB.
The iMac runs OS X, the most beautiful operating system available (imo)
The iMac is all packed into a neat, stylish design.
The iMac comes with a suite of Photo, Video, Music and Web editing applications.
So, really, if you did all the adding up, the iMac would probably be a hundred pounds or so cheaper! :] Adding screen price, hard drive price, lowering the price of the Mac as it doesn't need such a config to run smoothly, the price of antivirus, the price of beauty, the price of packing it all in one (therefore requiring smaller components, thus increasing the price), the price of a bluetooth dongle built in (around £15?), the price of wireless built in, the price of the 512MB graphic RAM.
You're comparison was flawed, it didn't list model numbers, it was biased, it was basically a mess.
Have you not realised that Apple are a high quality brand? PCs don't come close in terms of design, reliability or useage. If you ran an iMac which cost the same as a PC side by side doing the same things the iMac would out run it easily. Even switching an iMac on is a hell of a lot faster than any Windows machine.
@Nick.
The PB would run OS X, OSx86 ;) (which is OS X)
To browse the web and chat you can use internet explorer, or windows live messenger
Windows (vista) runs fine on a Intel Pentium M 740 / 1.6 GHz cpu
Windows gets virus' because more people use it, therefore attack that system more then a Mac or Linux OS. Also, macs do get a virus, link.
Just because you think mac runs the most beautiful, doesn't mean others do :)
There are more companies that make computers then just Windows.. and they make good designs too.. ;)
Windows does come with photo and video editing applications..
Your post is just as biased as the first ;)
Hackintosh, runs OSX86 on intel with a vanilla kernel :8 (that's unmodified for the lesser macintosh users)
Windows XP doesn't, you can run it on a 233Mhz processor with 128MB RAM if you so wish, Browse LE INTERNET :O:O:O AND (wait for it) USE MSN!!! (SHOCK!!) That's alot less than the "iMac" needs.
Um hey, that's not true, they can and will get viruses when they gain market share.
Uhh, dunno where you're getting an extra £285 from.
So do all the parts on the computer specs i'm about to show you which will make you :(
Now, onto the specs.

Hey look better specs on _everything_ for a lower price! :O wow!
I've had my fair share of Firefox failure.
The PB comes with the 20" monitor, this is a big difference yes, but a thousand pound difference for an extra 4"? The PBs monitor is £139.99.
I'm not sure what you mean by the PB doesn't come with Windows, the PB comes with Microsoft Windows.
The iMac doesn't need the high end specifications, you're correct. However for what you're paying, you should be able to get more.
The PB also has free shipping.
Quite honestly I wouldn't lose much sleep over the additional 180GB, 320GB is sufficient. I would take the extra GB of ram, over the HDD.
Windows doesn't need the Quad core. I'm running Vista Ultimate on this Duo Core, and it's extremely fast. A great deal of users still use XP, and, the requirements for XP are extremely low. I've ran XP on a 500Mhz processor with 128mb of ram, and I used messenger, Firefox, Habbo and even the occasional Flight Simulator. Before the quad core was out for the consumer, we got along just fine with Windows ;).
OS X may have a good graphical interface, but I find that the preformance compared to Windows isn't as good. However, if there was abit more OSX software support I wouldn't hezitate to switch.
The design of the iMac is nice, yes. Though not worth the extra money in my opinion.
For freeware software for the PC (these are all quite good) Paint.Net, Movie Maker, Netscape composer.
No, the price of the iMac remains higher than the PC, the lack of RAM in the iMac must be considered, the 20" screen is included, you can easily swap that for a nice 24" if desired. As for upgrading the hard drive, you can keep the current hard drive in, and add another one for next to nothing! The standard Vista OneCare is included, also third-party antivirus is included too.
I cba replying to all that tbh but Mac's do not get viruses, it had been proven, they are based on the UNIX foundation. I don't understand much of it, but they cannot get viruses. All the crap about market share is pure bull, I'm sure if they could someone would make a virus for OS X now, just because of the glory of being the first person to make a OS X virus.
There have not been any Mac viruses, it is possible to create them but because the way OS X runs, they don't have an effect. You need a password to do anything that will affect the system and the virus has to be made to target a user, it cannot target everybody.
Well put it this way, with a Mac you pay for what you get. Even the box it comes in costs around £40 - £60 to be made. Nothing Apple make is made or sells for cheap. Unlike places such as Dell and IBM where they use cheap plastics and put barely anything into design :)
