Anyway, what do you think? I think I won't get it; paint will be crap if it's a touchscreen PC.

Does anyone actually read my posts?
The UI will be changed, they always use the previous window's UI in the early BETAs

I read somewhere that the UI wouldn't have any dramatic changes as they're concentrating more on fixing the way things work etc?
I may be completely wrong but yaknow...

This is a stupid thread, it won't be out for 2 years and we haven't seen hardly any of it at the moment.
I also think that people are against vista because its now the common thing to do... I don't see how it is that much WORSE than XP? Yes it has higher system requirements but XP had much higher requirements than Windows 98 and 2000. Everyone complained then too but finally accepted it.

Apparently none of you know is that Windows 7 is the Vista kernel, just being built up on with all the errors fixed.
What Windows does is raise the system requirements forcing manufacturers to speed up processors and release higher specs, thus giving you faster PC's and more hardware to play with, if anything you should be thankful for Vista.

Vista is actually very good.
You say whenever someone doesn't like it that they don't have any idea what they're talking about, that's not true, some of us have genuine reasons for not liking the OS. I don't like Vista because I think it's a resource eater, and it overall incompatible with a great deal of things.
27-06-2008, 10:35 AM
It turns out that the Windows Sidebar is going to be built in to the system, rather then being a program. Also; I really think that it's too soon for them to make another operating system while loads of people don't have vista yet (not that I would want it, it's really unstable).
On the right of the taskbar, there is a lighter patch. I wonder what that's for?
It's more then a kernel - Julie Larson Green was pointing out the touchscreen features and the taskbar caught someones eye (not to mention the fact that it is touchscreen too): http://www.istartedsomething.com/wp-...ws7taskbar.jpg
They now say it's a cheaper, more compact version of the 10,000 pound table thing. "Microsoft Surface".

i actually think windows 7 will be decent
as for some posts in here, i hate how people hate vista so much. they are usually people that know nothing about the OS itself.
I had an argument with my friend at school, he heard so much bad stuff about vista he had actually decided that xp was better without vista, although he hadnt used vista before... (what a douche!)
As i say, people who hate vista havent used vista or just dont know how to use all the features yet.
People say that no programs work with vista, the drivers dont work. rubbish. I can get any driver i want for my pre-vista mobo/gfx card (and that was within 6 months of having vista when it first came out)
&&&& whoever said that there wasnt a back button in ctrl panel before:
Im hoping windows 7 will carry on from vista actually because i really like the OS. Theres admittedly a few things that could be tweaked, but i would like to see a full 64 bit os, forcing bloody software dev's to make their products 64-bit compatible
I got so annoyed i reverted from 64 bit to 32 bit

Yeh so is XP, and so is windows 2000 .

I have to agree about the points made mostly here; although it might be less then two years, they haven't given a proper release date yet (I think).
I've deffo got a back button in control panel etc... :|

When I used XP in 2002 I could justify it because I had upgraded from Windows 98. The features available in XP compared to the features in 98 were worth the extra required resources at the time, and now it's not a problem at all. With Vista it seems that I'm needing even more, and waiting even longer. Vista does have some handy features, but to me it's not worth the extra requirements at the moment. Perhaps a few service packs later (and some updated drives, more compatible applications) and I'll start to support Vista. It's all personal opinion, you have your opinion on what you like to use and I have my opinion on what I like to use.

If the resources are there and not being used, whats the problem? :/

I think it will be ok, its ment to be what vista was ment to be. I saw a video of someone using the toutch screen fearures and that was very impresive, but the new start bar looks crap :(

Alot of people seemingly don't realise Vista uses memory management better than any other Windows OS, it takes up more RAM when it's free to do stuff faster, and slices away that RAM to give to other applications if they need it more / a new application starts. Vista doesn't use much RAM atall if you don't have much RAM. OS X is also a RAM hog.

Incompatibility is more important than resources, and it hurts when I'm playing games. It's like saying, "well the money's there, why not spend it?" why not safe the money. It's using the resources for the sake of using the resources. "Oo my start button is transparent until I maximize a window!" The Aero Experience isn't worth it for me. If I like what Vista looks like I'll get a free XP skin, put a vorb program on for the nice little orb start button, stick Windows/Google Desktop Search on, and get vistart (if I wanted to go into further detail with this I could also get the icons and tray icons etc). It would be free and make XP look like Vista, only it would be compatible with what I do. As I've said it's all about opinion, my opinion is that I prefer XP over Vista, I've given both OS a fair try. You're not going to magically change my mind about Vista with a few words:P. Microsoft will have to change my opinion when SP2 is released.

It is using the resources to optimize applications and it self. For example, you don't ever need to defrag Vista unless you turn the care services off as it does it by it self... without you knowing.
And Jewish Bear's post above is 100% correct.

I don't need to defrag if I have an SSD hard drive, there's already systems with SSDs in them selling with Vista, it's getting more popular on the market, especially with portable systems. Also the Aero Expierence, the 3d switcher, and Windows Sidebar are all useless to me, though they're using resources.

All my games from Windows ME still work on Vista. Infact, all my programs I used on XP still work, so I have no problem with compatible issues. Come to think of it, my XP and ME games work better on Vista :S
