When I used XP in 2002 I could justify it because I had upgraded from Windows 98. The features available in XP compared to the features in 98 were worth the extra required resources at the time, and now it's not a problem at all. With Vista it seems that I'm needing even more, and waiting even longer. Vista does have some handy features, but to me it's not worth the extra requirements at the moment. Perhaps a few service packs later (and some updated drives, more compatible applications) and I'll start to support Vista. It's all personal opinion, you have your opinion on what you like to use and I have my opinion on what I like to use.

If the resources are there and not being used, whats the problem? :/

Alot of people seemingly don't realise Vista uses memory management better than any other Windows OS, it takes up more RAM when it's free to do stuff faster, and slices away that RAM to give to other applications if they need it more / a new application starts. Vista doesn't use much RAM atall if you don't have much RAM. OS X is also a RAM hog.

Incompatibility is more important than resources, and it hurts when I'm playing games. It's like saying, "well the money's there, why not spend it?" why not safe the money. It's using the resources for the sake of using the resources. "Oo my start button is transparent until I maximize a window!" The Aero Experience isn't worth it for me. If I like what Vista looks like I'll get a free XP skin, put a vorb program on for the nice little orb start button, stick Windows/Google Desktop Search on, and get vistart (if I wanted to go into further detail with this I could also get the icons and tray icons etc). It would be free and make XP look like Vista, only it would be compatible with what I do. As I've said it's all about opinion, my opinion is that I prefer XP over Vista, I've given both OS a fair try. You're not going to magically change my mind about Vista with a few words. Microsoft will have to change my opinion when SP2 is released.

It is using the resources to optimize applications and it self. For example, you don't ever need to defrag Vista unless you turn the care services off as it does it by it self... without you knowing.

And Jewish Bear's post above is 100% correct.

I don't need to defrag if I have an SSD hard drive, there's already systems with SSDs in them selling with Vista, it's getting more popular on the market, especially with portable systems. Also the Aero Expierence, the 3d switcher, and Windows Sidebar are all useless to me, though they're using resources.

Stop complaining and turn them off.

All my games from Windows ME still work on Vista. Infact, all my programs I used on XP still work, so I have no problem with compatible issues. Come to think of it, my XP and ME games work better on Vista :S
