I'm looking to do Computing at Uni a year from September and around now I have to decide where I want to go and I thought where better to ask than HabboxForum's technology forum.
My grades are in the AAB-ABB range so I'm looking for something of that standard but I have no idea where to start. Does anyone know where is good to go?
I'm presuming you are thinking of English universities, I've heard that Durham is pretty nice and so is Southampton. However, if you are looking to go a bit further afield, Glasgow seems very good for Computing.
n.b - the english universities are suggestions from a friend, and based on the Comp. Sci course :)
It may seem a little far fetched, I live in Derby, and derby university is extremely good for technology with degree's that link with Microsoft and other big companies.

Its not, English students get half price in Scottish universities because I was going to go to one! Their tuition fees are slashed in half from the price you have to pay in England and Wales. Trust me on that one.Quote:

I'd try Staffordshire too (one I'm going too), one of the campuses is basically dedicated towards computing and IT, plus the media and music groups. It's a pretty good uni imo, campus and town is quite nice too, central to the country, check it out. :)
Oh and btw, do a Sandwich course, they're better for IT.
Thanks for the help! My Tutor told me that to go to a Scottish Uni I would have to pay a lot more because the Council don't pay part of your fee like they do in England and Wales so I'd have to pay £30,000 or something. I'll quiz her on that next week, I'm sure she's wrong.Quote:

ATM i'm looking at Coventry Uni and Brighton Uni. They both offer a robust lineup of computing courses :)

Has a good staff, interesting course with alot of choices and a good few IT/computing based jobs you can get while studying (which give alot of flexibilty to place around your studies)
Kent itself is a nice area, but a little quiet compared to bigger citys, is more like a town tbh.
requirements are ABB so roughly where you were looking, lots of options etc within the course. Year in industry option is also very very good (im currently doing that right now :))
So theres my sales pitch / suggestion
Abertay Uni (Scotland) is supposedly brilliant for anything to do with computing etc, as after all Dundee is the city of discovery and focuses on science and computing etc.

Don't you need A Level maths for most computing courses?
I think A-Level Maths is more for computer science? Though I might be wrong.
Tis true, The computer Science course at Kent though only requires a B in GCSE level maths, which is a good part of why i choose it. (not a fan of maths :p)Quote:

I might go for Kent, not sure. I hate Maths but I'm good at it, I did AS Maths in Year 11 and got an A and I've just done A2 Maths in first year college and got an A. That said though I hate Maths and don't want to do any more ;P.
I choose RGU over Abertay in the end due to job recruitment prospects. RGU being the highest in the UK if I remember correctly.Quote:

Still plenty of other good unis out there i imagine, i just selling this one cuz its one i'm at + one of the best cs courses you can get on to without an a level maths (though if you have a level maths you dont have that issue) I'd def give kent a thought tho :p
