Who thought that Holland was a country?
i thought it was called holland, but know its called the Netherlands lol
it's not...?
ohwell hated geography
It is isnt it?
Nah, Stryderman. It's like how England is to UK. Holland is a region of Netherlands.
But englands a country..
OH MY GOD LOL
no... england is a country LMAO. as is holland, it's called netherlands or holland. it's both a region and a country. what a thread lmao........
i am right dw
no holland is a western district part of the netherlands but its almost came a convention to just accept holland meaning netherlands, which makes dutch ppl angry
It is much easier saying 'sovereign state' because thats a real country by the definition. The United Kingdom is a sovereign state, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are not. The Netherlands is a sovereign state, Holland etc are not.
Oh I see. Some people call Netherlands Holland but Holland is a reigion in Netherlands
Officially it's name isn't Holland, and a lot of people within the Netherlands complain about this. Holland is the name for the Western Region of the Netherlands, like Kent is the South Eastern part of the UK (or England). England is a country and was only united with Scotland, as Scotland was formerly not a country, and Scotland and Ireland and Wales all have their own laws and their own country, however through the Union they share many laws and help each other out.
ok youve officially hurt my brain
google it
I'm really stupid when it comes to geography. What do you call people from Denmark?
I'm confused......... :|
NO DANNY IT IS A COUNTRY, GOOGLE IT. IT'S WIDELY CALLED THAT, JUST UNOFFICIALLY.
LMAO **** MY LIFE

I swear even on football games it's called Netherlands..
Holland always has been a country to me, therefore may as well always be ;p

A list of sovereign states and the 'regions/countries' that make them up.
Quote:
Widely recognized member of the UN. The Kingdom of the Netherlands consists of three countries which each enjoy a great amount of autonomy:

Britain/United Kingdom is the country, England/Scotland/Wales/N.I. are the regions that make it up.

England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom
SEE I TOLD U ENGLAND WAS A COUNTRY
Holland is the name given to North and South Holland (Noord-Holland/Zuid-Holland). I used to think this until year 7 or 8 :P
As Stephen Fry said, "Holland is like calling England 'East Anglia'", however, North and South Holland are provinces, so they're technically both considered seperate regions, much like East Anglia, where East Anglia has Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk (and maybe Cambridge, can't remember).
Amsterdam is the capital, but Den Haag (The Hague) is where the power is, where the Queen works etc.
I know way too much about the Netherlands, but it's awesome so it's fine <3
How? It's like saying North and South Devon - Holland is the name given to the western reach of the country, Devon is like saying North/West/South/East as a collective name, same applies to Holland which is the name given to the two provinces Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland :P
Look up the word contradiction ;)
yh but i didnt realize danzooo put tht
thats like sayin the EU is a country..
... DO I HAVE TO SAY MORE?
YOUR SAYING THATS THE NAME OF THE COUNTRY... YOU JUST CALLED IT A COUNTRY HOW IS THAT POSSIBLY NOT CONTRADICTING YOURSELF?
HOLLAND IS A FRIGGING COUNTRY
END OF CLOSE THE DAMN THREAD
Oh my God we've got a strange one boys - I said "of the country", that's not saying Holland... Let me put it in lame man terms (re-written):
"Holland is the name given to the western reach of the Netherlands."
If I meant Holland, it would come out like this:
"Holland is the name given to the western reach of Holland."
^ Above makes no sense, which you're suggesting is what I'm trying to say :P
Country = The Netherlands
Western Reach = Holland
I'm shocked you're so confused :P
Because the country is "the Netherlands", since that was established we might as well call it "the country" :P
