Gallant Macmillan trying to take me to court?

My mum recived a letter through from this 'company' today demanding a payment of £375 for downloading ministry of sound 'big tunes back to the 90's' which i havent downloaded? apparently i have been using bittorrent and the only evidence they have against me is an IP address? this doesnt seem ligit and apparently they have a court order against my mum...what the hell? ive been looking on google for research and apparently its happening to loads of inocent people..i need advice on what to do about this matter, much apreshiated thankyou.

Don't pay. If you did download it, get a magnet and run it in one direction several times over your hard drive.

FIGHT THE POWER

Ignore it and do not enter into any contact. If more come, ignore them. They will never send anyone around or take you to court. They just try and scare people. IGNORE!

Like others have said, just ignore the letter and don't pay it!

Just ignore them as the others said or you could try and ring the police, but if you actually downloaded it then nevermind about the police thing. :P

Its not just that though, the letter looks so dodgey, and the site does not look proffessional at all...

which gives you even more reason to ignore it! They are probably trying to scam money out of you for something you havent done!

What site did they reference?

YOu havent given us a company name so cant really help there,

Scan the letter, remove addresses and references plus your mum name and upload it.

they cant do **** anyway...i doubt theyll spend out and loose money for a court case which they wont win from an IP. and like theyre gunna get a warrent to search my PC for an album..i highly doubt

Sue them back for false allegations.

As many people have said before just ignore them, there's been tons of reports of letters like these on programs like Watchdog on the BBC.

I had one of these letters sent to me. Some noob mate of my mums decided to send them a letter back which could be a mistake.

Mine was for downloading MOS - Electronic 80's.

Type "Gallant Macmillan" and see the suggestions that come up. It's a generic letter :).

If they phone you up and say 'Can you please confirm your name'
DONT say your name as this starts the court pursuit or saink
my aunty did something in like 2001 and they just phoned her recently and because she confirmed her name they reactivated the court thingy :/

just ignore the letter tho and ignore phone calls if you get em

Sounds dodgy though. Personally, I'd only actually give a monkeys if the police turned up at my door. Don't ever make contact with them or reply to ANYTHING.

If the debt is over 6 years old, it becomes statute barred under Section 5 of the Limitation Act 1980

My mate got a letter like this, he really did download the album (forgot what it was) but it was scammers.
Apparently without 3 warnings from your internet provider no one can sue you for illegal downloading.
Just dont reply.

i know im late replying but it probably would have helped if you watched the real hustle.
If they're saying you have to pay something for doing something illegal and they're an independant company, ignore it. If it was actually from the government or something and you can check it was then you follow it up.

Can I ask, what happens if you do reply?

A friend of my mums was 'fighting our case' and sent Gallant MacMillan a letter in response of the original, asking to prove that it 100% was us who downloaded the album - or something.

You should never reply. I hope she hasn't put her signature on the letter - some companies have been very shady in the past and used this against people.

If you look around the internet, a few of these shady "law firms" and "debt collectors" have been known to take the signature as an "agreement" that you will pay the money. Also, some signatures have been copied onto documents. Of course they don't all do this, but there have been cases of it. As I've said previously, getting into contact with them was the worst thing you could've done.
