So is the forum ever going to work properly or is the problem going to be ignored?

I get this anywhere from 2-4 times a week, not to mention the MySQL table crashes and other useless errors.

Every other forum I browse, bigger or smaller manage to keep it up, so why can't HxF?

Any other forum would have seen there's a problem and fix it, but oh boy it's not happening here! Let's apply more goddamn useless optimisations and break the forum even more. I want a smooth browsing experience, to hell if it's .2 seconds slower, stability is always preferable to speed.

Fix the damn forum. Does sierk even know how many times it breaks? Honestly this is just getting to the point of stupidity.

There is literally nothing you can say to convince me these errors are normal or just "part of daily life". It's not. If you can't fix the forum, get someone who can, you're clearly not doing a very good job at it.

Last I saw they have Jin fix the forum behind the scenes, when they should probably have someone close to the server poking it who understands what they are doing.

It is a bit ridiculous, especially when donators are slinging money at them for a server which appears to be a waste of money :/

are you kidding me? 2-4 times a week!? this is the biggest case of nitpicking i've seen in my life. i just refresh the page and voila, everything works again.

I just thought it went down a lot last night because they were adding this message.

However, it doesn't go down that much for me anymore. The last time previous was when it was down a good 24 hours, but the other day there were database errors. I myself can't see a forum working 24/7 a number of reasons can be said for why it did. It workas fine a lot of the time.

I know from viewing the source on the database errors last night (when you see a database error page you can go to view page source and it displays the failed query as an html comment) that at first the SQL server went down (not really Jin or Sierk's fault) and when it came back the vbulletin sessions table had been marked as corrupt. I know it must have been around two or three in the morning for you guys but within several minutes I saw Jin sign on and fix the problem relatively quickly.

That means he stopped whatever he was doing (probably sleeping) at three in the morning to fix this particular database error - now that's dedication! From what I've seen in the past it's fortunate that most database errors occur during the night, so they mostly just get noticed by the Canadians and the Americans :P

Indeed, but that's quite a lot in todays standards. They're meant to be incredibly rare, not happen that often :P Combine that with the speculated cost of running Habbox and it comes off as a bit wasteful :/

why should the costs/wasteage of resources be of any concern to him or us for that matter? they inconvenience you for maximum of 5 seconds.

Some people like a decent quality service? Afterall, it's members what make a forum, not the staff ;) It's the principle of why the actions to fix these small errors are at all necessary, when you can easily do without them. Plus they do happen quite frequently recently, a few times I've been cut off and given up :P

Tbf it is a bit laggy on occasions but I am pretty sure that Jin is aware of this and is searching for solutions.

Most likely, it just depends if he has the time :P It's a bit annoying that he has to do all the maintenance in the first place :/

Also, cocaine, it's obviously nothing to cry about, but it could be a possible cause for concern. Afterall, this is a feedback forum and the internal errors do get mentioned quite a bit. Best to have feedback on a minor set back than none at all :)

He has only just got back from quite a long trip so I am guessing he may have time now.

I don't think anybody can deny there's been a few hiccups with the server recently, server hiccups are quite hard for us to do anything about as it's Jin who has direct contact with the company therefore Jin who can contact them about internal errors that aren't quite internal (a lot of the errors recently have been serverside and there's only so much we can do). I wouldn't expect this job to be any different either, the hosting company aren't going to listen to the monkeys they will want to listen to the person that is paying them the money - i.e Jin so in terms of "getting someone else in to fix that" isn't likely, however I am aware that Jin has been onto the company about the poor quality we have been recieving, however when you are paying a large sum of money to a company it's better to wait for results than walk off and take your custom elsewhere as potentially this could lose you money.

In terms of these internal database errors which don't occur too often, but it's usually likely that there'll be issues with the server and then a table will crash - we have now made it so there are three times as many people who can fix these kind of errors than before when it was just Jin. Matt and myself now have the relevant power and know-how to fix a database error.

The most useful thing about our server is when it does crash Jin gets a text, hence David experiencing him coming online at 3am to fix it! Obviously Matt and I aren't hooked up to this information system however should a database error occur at any time when Matt or myself aren't online then we can be easily reached - there are multiple staff members who possess either of our mobile numbers and we both accept that should the forum need fixing at any time, we are willing to come on to do so.

The only time I've really experienced this (ever since those every-5-minutes server errors ages ago) was yesterday evening so I imagine 2-4 times a week is during the early hours of the morning?

While not such a big problem for me, it must be harder to keep international users here on a forum that keeps breaking during their peak times but I'm sure they're doing all they can to sort it out. :)

It occurs WAY more than 2-4 times per week excluding the backup outages.

As I'm sure you're aware, Habbo's fantastically sensible VIP restriction policies resulted in the need to change the server company. While I'm sure Jin still went for a quality service, I'm also sure that budget constraints were more restrictive than they were in the past, most probably resulting in a lower quality server operation. Though I'm sure Jin wouldn't have picked a substandard one.

A lot of the issues we have been receiving recently have been hard to diagnose (except the issue in which the forum was unreachable for 24 hours which I diagnosed in 3 mins but spent 12 hours convincing the datacenter it was their issue and not ours). In regards to the table crashes I applied what I assume will be a fix last night around 3am.

I do have a few changes that I want to make to our system but at the moment I am holding off due to a lack of funds and more importantly because it will result in a downtime period whilst it is being implemented across all sites and well Habbox sites aren't the only sites that operate on our server.

We do actually have 5 people that perform work on our servers including myself, we are reluctant to change our hosts as we receive a pretty cheap service which we are happy to pay for.

I'll be honest I receive they crashes about 4 times a week, and I'm not on too often?
(This is barring the ones at 12-1am when they just crash constantly while the server does whatever you lot are discussing above).

Yeah gets kinda annoying although i get it like twice a week... doesnt really bug me too much but sometimes if i refresh it still doesnt work

I alwayss seem to get that error when I search the forums for specific things :(

That happens to me too, I can brows forums but when i click on a thread I get a vBulletin Database Error :( This happens a few times a week in the morning round about 7-8am

When it happens to me, it normally takes a while to come back, a simple refresh has never helped!

Yeh it is bloody annoying, particularly that it happens in the early hours in the morning, and us international folk have to bear with it.

I haven't experienced any forum slowness in a little while now

500 errors will be properly investigated next week. I was suppose to do it this week but I have moved house on very short notice.

The past 2 days hxf and hxl having been going reallyy slow and just not loading at all for me :(
