Ages of consent around the world

I don't get why it's such a shock to people that the age is 12 in some countries. Take into consideration that the lower the age of consent, it is usually a poorer or more unhealthy country. The low average life expectancy in these places means population decrease and so people are likely to be encouraged to have children at much younger ages. Bear in mind that in such places, children will be much more mature at young ages than we were (or are) at around 12-14, as they will have had full-time manual labour jobs by then and will know full well the hardships of life.

Also, in many places it's probably just customary to marry and have children young, as it was in most of the world for millennia. A lower age of consent means that a family only has to support their offspring for a shorter while before they can be married off into a rich family (if they're lucky). Of course they might just go into prostitution, which isn't so lucky really (unless you really like it, but it's pretty dangerous) but that's life.

Umm thats kinda pathetic, you should have sex when u are ready and not because the girl has started her periods, i was posting the ages of consent to show another people the age differences,

like they have a lower age but have lower pregnancies sp? than the Uk which is very shocking i think that we shouldnt be one of the highest in the world,

If a girl's started her periods there's evidence to show that she is ready, physically if not mentally (after all, the natural point of sex is to reproduce). If not mentally then it's because she hasn't been brought up quick enough, in the West we pamper ourselves and our kids too much, which is why we have to have higher ages of consent. Why do you think people break this law and have underage sex? It's because they feel they're ready for it. Some people still don't feel ready at 30, it's all to do with how and where you're brought up.
