Although your mates might have let the cat out the bag, it's allowed things just to be out in the open and it's allowed her to know you do actually like her, therefore she's felt shes able to come out and tell you aswell that she has feelings for you - would you rather asking her out without knowing whether she did in fact like you or not?! :s

I probaly sound weird but I probaly wudda prefered asking her out without knowing the reaction, and all the snide comments people make & my mates making stupid little jokes that really annoy the hell out of me

You don't sound weird at all! :] I just posted by what the majority of people would perhaps have wanted, for their own interest, but I understand not everyone is the same and has the same opinions on things, so to mee your views are just as normal as anyone elses! :]
